Chapter 410: The Board of Directors
Chapter 410: The Board of Directors
At the same time, on that very day...Across most of the Kanto region.
The moment the operation began, the entire region seemed to erupt into motion.
Evacuating civilians and mobilizing local security forces was completed within minutes. What followed was a large-scale wave of arrests and raids.
Many tried to resist.
Some fought desperately to break free.
But thanks to the League's careful planning and the sudden nature of the operation, the majority of those involved were subdued one after another.
Still, a few locations proved unusually troublesome.
The moment they realized what was happening, they pulled out strange black Poké Balls.
Caught off guard, several League Pokémon were captured and dragged inside.
When those Pokémon were released again, they immediately turned against their former allies.
"Arcanine!"
"Pidgeot!"
"Haha! Go fight your own Pokémon! Murkrow, let's go!"
One of Team Rocket's senior executives grabbed onto Murkrow's claws, preparing to escape into the sky.
Then he froze.
Because high above him floated a small pink Pokémon that had appeared without warning.
Beside it was another tiny, peculiar Pokémon.
"M-Mew...?"
The executive's eyes widened in shock.
The Pokémon they had searched for endlessly...
The Pokémon they had dreamed of capturing...
It was right in front of him.
Why now?!
Under normal circumstances, if they discovered traces of Mew, they could carefully prepare traps and plans to capture it.
But now?
Looking at the smiling Mew before him, all he could do was pray that it would lose interest and leave.
Unfortunately, Murphy's Law never failed.
Mew tilted its head playfully.
It looked down at him.
Then at Murkrow.
Its eyes sparkled.
The next moment, every Pokémon present stopped moving.
Even those in the middle of battle.
One by one, they slowly drifted into sleep.
"H-Hey! Murkrow?!"
The executive could only watch helplessly as his sleeping Pokémon carried him straight down from the sky.
Below, the League officers were equally stunned.
"What are you standing around for?! Put the cuffs on them!"
The lead investigator's roar finally snapped everyone back to reality.
Immediately, officers rushed forward and handcuffed the captured Team Rocket members one after another.
"Mew~"
...
Near Pallet Town.
A young man with black hair sat atop Charizard.
He wore a red jacket and a red cap.
Various Pokémon surrounded him.
Red.
Standing opposite him was a humanoid Pokémon with dull, lifeless eyes and a purple body.
Yet at that moment, the unstable energy inside its body suddenly began to fluctuate violently.
It looked as though it had suffered a devastating blow.
An instant later, it exploded.
"A mindless Pokémon... and it's still this powerful?"
Red narrowed his eyes.
"No. It's an artificial life-form created through copied energy."
His expression grew serious.
Below, a Team Rocket executive looked up at Red in despair.
The moment he recognized who it was, every last hope of escape vanished.
All he could do was curse inwardly.
If Mewtwo hadn't attacked back then...
If they had managed to obtain enough of Mew's genetic material...
They could have successfully created a second Mewtwo.
Maybe even a third.
Instead, all they had managed to produce was this incomplete energy construct.
"Damn it..."
The executive gritted his teeth.
"We were so close..."
"If you have anything to say, save it for the League interrogators."
Red raised a hand calmly.
"Pikachu. Thunderbolt."
"Pika!"
A split second later, dozens of lightning bolts as thick as human arms erupted from Pikachu's body.
The attacks struck every Team Rocket member on the ground with flawless precision.
"..."
...
The Distortion World.
"You're really just going to leave those two there?"
Mewtwo couldn't help asking as they headed toward the final laboratory.
In its eyes, Salamence still carried much of the hostility toward humans it had possessed in the past.
Leaving it unsupervised seemed...
A little dangerous.
Dragonite was somewhat better.
Walking at the front, Giratina silently led the way.
Lin Feng shook his head.
"Let them be."
"They've carried those frustrations for a long time. They deserve a chance to release them."
From the beginning, he had never intended to stop Salamence or Dragonite.
Just as he had told Salamence before:
As long as you don't hurt innocent people, I won't interfere with what you choose to do.
Mewtwo said nothing more.
The cleanup operation had gone surprisingly smoothly.
Despite the laboratories' heavy security measures, the sudden attacks had rendered most of their defenses useless before they could even activate.
Now only one laboratory remained.
But in the end, Lin Feng was only one person.
The final laboratory had not yet been destroyed.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket had already reacted.
At this moment, the organization resembled a ticking time bomb.
...
Inside Team Rocket Headquarters.
Giovanni sat behind his desk, his expression dark.
Since ten o'clock that morning, it felt as though some invisible force had cursed him.
One laboratory after another throughout Kanto had been dismantled.
The worst part?
There had been absolutely no warning.
The only unusual development beforehand was that Lance had been mobilizing League personnel over the past few days.
Officially, it had been described as a joint defense exercise.
An exercise.
And then suddenly even Red had come down from Mt. Silver.
The League had somehow obtained the locations of most of Team Rocket's laboratories and launched coordinated surprise attacks.
Not only that, they appeared to have acquired nearly all of the Pokémon research data stored within those facilities.
Within just ten minutes, the incident had spread throughout Kanto.
Images of the laboratories and their Pokémon experiments flooded the internet and every major news channel.
Public outrage exploded overnight.
At this rate, the situation would not calm down anytime soon.
"Idiots!"
Giovanni took a deep breath.
Truthfully, he had never been obsessed with the laboratories themselves.
To him, they were simply a means of generating profit.
Years ago, someone had delivered a research proposal claiming it was possible to create a Pokémon stronger than Mew.
Interested, he provided funding.
Eventually...
Mewtwo was born.
It was incredibly powerful.
But it escaped.
Afterward, Giovanni had planned to terminate the entire project.
Then someone proposed another avenue of research.
The blood of powerful Dragon-type Pokémon possessed unusual properties that could be used to forcefully capture and control Pokémon.
The concept had potential.
The profits looked promising.
So the laboratories remained operational.
Some of the research results were indeed profitable.
But later, after Mewtwo's rampage, most of the Dragon-type Pokémon escaped as well.
Now everything had fallen apart.
At that moment, the office door burst open.
A woman hurried inside.
"Boss!"
Matori's expression was grim.
"We've identified the key factor behind the League's operation!"
