Chapter 491 Initial Meeting with the Chancellors
Chapter 491 Initial Meeting with the Chancellors
--
Cedric, despite spending more time in cultivation recently, wasn't completely oblivious to the events within the camp.
He was aware of the Dragon Clan's Young Patriarch's death since it was practically what everybody was talking about recently. Although the events that led to his death were kept as a secret from most, Cedric had a clue. But of course, he wouldn't dare to spread it around.
Today, he wasn't expecting an urgent call to work. He just finished at least a week's worth of work yesterday because he was planning on entering a short seclusion because he could feel that his mastery over the Cosmic Furnace Spell is about to reach another level. He planned on focusing on this, but unexpectedly, he was being summoned to work, and he had to answer it.
And thus, he made his way to the building...
However, even before he could enter, he felt something strange.
There was a really strong and vivid presence within the building. Something that he never felt before. He could tell that the aura was muted, as if it were trying its best to be polite and undisturbing. However, even with its best attempts at being still, the mere presence of it was intimidating.
This was a sign that there's most likely a visitor in the building. Someone who's absurdly strong.
Chief Blackwood summoned him to the secret lab. And as he rode the elevator to the top, the stronger the intimidating presence felt. Actually, the closer he got there, the more he realized that this presence was, in fact, not a singular one. It's an accumulation and combination of multiple presences gathered in a single place.@@@@
Without any outward changes in his expression, Cedric mentally prepared himself. He didn't know why he was called here, but he better be ready because he could almost predict that there were people here that he could not provoke.
He went through the security measures before entering the secret lab. He also got himself sanitized, changed into his void suit, and then wore his lab coat before entering the doors leading to the secret lab.
As soon as he opened the door, the strong, ominous wave of pressure almost pressed him down close to the ground. This made him clench his teeth, summoning all his strength and calling upon his willpower to resist the pressure.
The sensation didn't last for long, though. It did feel like months to him, but in reality, the pressure disappeared in an instant.
Noticing this, Cedric couldn't help but complain inwardly. Just what in the world was happening here? Who's this rude person that's releasing his pressure without any consent? How come they're allowed to act like this in the Border Patrol Guardian Camp?
OoouuuuUu!
A low-pitched whine interrupted his thoughts; the sound was familiar to him. His eyes couldn't help but land on the Squealer, and what he saw made him feel strange.
A reptilian head greeted him. There were thick and strong scales on his face; his sharp, snake-like tongue passed through everybody, making them feel exposed. He had a pair of long horns that almost wrapped around his head, almost as if it was a crown.
But beneath his strong and intimidating expression, Cedric could sense the deep sorrow and loss in his eyes.
"My young disciple sacrificed himself to save his comrades. He chose to stay behind to cover his fellow paragons' path of retreat and sealed the entrance to the void for a whole month due to some unknown reasons."
This was the part that Cedric hadn't heard yet, so he listened carefully.
"We had no idea what threat he saw out there that forced him to a dead end. Those who came with him never saw it as well."

Then, the Wise Dragon Chancellor brought something out of his breast pocket and showed it to everybody. It was a small scale, one that barely fits his palm. It was translucent, yet it also released a rainbow-colored light.
Seeing this, Cedric recalled an article he read online about the Wise Dragons. And if that was true, then this scale should be the very thing he's thinking about.
"The answers to this mystery, hopefully, should be contained in here: my young disciple's Reverse Heart Scale."
The Reverse Heart Scale of a Wise Dragon. It could be defined as a treasure relic, one that is nigh-indestructible and extremely important to the Wise Dragon Clan. The Reverse Heart Scale is where dragons can store their wisdom. Ones that they can pass down from generation to the next. Due to the nigh-limitless durability of the Reversed Heart Scale, it was a perfect vessel to record information, inheritance, and other important things because not even time can erode this thing.
As creatures that value wisdom, the dragons treat this thing like it's their lifeline. Any nefarious plots over a dragon's reversed heart scale are met with ferocious retaliation.
'This means that instead of passing down his inheritance through his reversed heart scale, the young patriarch chose to record the events leading to his death as proof instead.'
This was a big deal, simply because a dragon can only condense a single piece of a reversed heart scale in their entire life. This scale can only be removed from their body once they died, and older dragons often use this to compile all of their knowledge to either enrich the clan as a whole or pass it down to their descendants, if they'd ever have any.
"I sure do hope that we can learn some important things with this," the Dragon Chancellor whispered.
Next to Cedric, Chief Blackwood leaned in and whispered, "Pay attention and take note; you might need to translate something soon."
Cedric nodded to this and focused since the Dragon Chancellor was already unravelling the contents of the reversed heart scale.
