Chapter 220 – The Great Beast
Chapter 220 – The Great Beast
Chapter 220 – The Great BeastThe red moon was purely a visual effect, as the nature of the Blood Attribute provided zero effects to Luna’s Moonlight, but it did come with the bonus of scaring a bunch of people.
[That… is unexpected…] Eva tried to study the effect but stopped herself. There wasn’t any time.
[Also, Eva, we have already taken three potions.] Syrus warned. [The effect has drained much faster than we expected.]
[Yes… I am trying to control our internal mana to stop any leakage, but yes… it is doing worse than projections and prior testing.] (Eva)
[Is it some kind of resistance our body has built up?] (Luna)
[It would need to be tested, but that could be a possible theory.] Eva was disappointed in the outcome as the final potion gave them another burst of strength.
Anlesa fought into the front of the parliament building, triggering traps, an explosion, and a trap hole, but she dodged without issue, and one guard fell into the hole instead without any assistance on Anlesa’s part.
They noticed civilians still stuck in this open area. Unable to escape to any security rooms and likely not allowed to leave. People who weren’t informed about the possible attack
Syrus flicked her hand back, knocking another guard out.
“I see, despite your superiors knowing, they choose to allow you people to stay in such an unsafe location. I wonder if he wanted you children to be living meat shields?” Luna’s rhetorical question squeezed the hearts of the civilians who were just supposed to come in for a good old average day of work. No one answered; no one knew how to answer.
Luna focused. They would just have to do their best so that no one was harmed.
Anlesa quickened her pace, demolished the people within her sight and accelerated into the parliament office. Guards quickly tried to block the corner, but they had other plans and targets.
[Have you heard him yet?] (Luna)
[I believe I have heard his voice, but will we need to check after this.] (Syrus)
Syrus jumped and leapt off the walls and broke through the ceiling. “I haven’t forgotten about you, children.”
The people who had the lovely job of shooting at her behind cover and the man from the hallway were now in proper view.
“What is this children's nonsense–” Syrus's bloody arm reached for the man’s mouth as her monstrous speed didn’t allow him any time to react.
“Does it really matter?” Syrus crushed his jaw and threw him off the building, and Luna fired a barrage of Moonlight shards into his body as they turned around.
The remaining people charged her immediately while she was attacking the guard, so many poisoned weapons at the ready. They all knew. They just had to stab her skin. There weren't many spots where flesh was exposed, and the armour looked powerful, but from people who understood that it only required one precise hit, any concern could be ignored.
After a quick annihilation of the roof personnel, they were ready to move on to the true target.
Syrus jumped and broke through a different segment of the open roof. She found the voice they had only heard quality spoken before when they spied on his office ramble in a panic as he emerged from some underground room.
“Useless, everyone!”
[Looks like he really didn’t run.] (Syrus)
[He is either foolish or confident; either way, it is the best result for us.] (Luna)
Having disabled so many people, there was no one to immediately stop her when she began walking towards where she heard the old bastard's voice. Reaching a clearing, they found the man gripping what appeared to be some kind of staff made from a tree root, with a glass-like, red, spiralling, cloudy orb on top.
[A magic staff?] Syrus hadn’t seen any staff look like that. A big glass orb? That sounded like an easily breakable object, and from what she knew of staff creation, not the type of material used for most magic staffs.
[Wait…] Luna paused and immediately tried to process where she had seen that object before.
[A magic staff should only help with Attribute control. Is he planning on fighting?] (Eva)
[We need to stop him immediately!] Luna's scream echoed in their head. [That orb is a piece of a natural relic of immense fire energy. It was found–never mind! We just need to destroy that, as if the power is channelled into a spell, the results could be dangerous.]
[What would the impact of destroying the orb be?] Syrus asked if it was so powerful, then would destroying it also create a dangerous outcome?
[No… based on records from similar items, the energy should quickly disperse harmlessly… but if you can puncture a hole through it without breaking the whole item, then that should result in the least chance of danger.] Luna was trying her best to remember all the facts of similar natural items, but she wasn't 100% sure on most answers. All she knew was that if they didn’t stop the spell being cast, then the destruction would be massive.
[Create a Moonlight spear for me quickly.] Syrus’s eyes sharpened at Luna’s warning, and the red Moonlight spear appeared in her hand, and without hesitation, she threw it towards the orb.
The beam of crimson light shot right through the spear, leaving a hole that was quickly filled with dark red energy that tried to expand outwards.
Abea slammed the ancient-looking staff on the ground, and a signal of light went towards the sky as Syrus felt a sweeping wave of energy following after. But the orb then exploded with energy, sending Abea to the ground as a wave of fire collided with his flesh, and he desperately tried to summon water to quench the blaze.
Syrus jumped forward to handle the energy being released from the orb, forcibly containing the orb within her hands that transformed into thick gauntlets of blood. A Moonlight prism swallowed them, and a second one around the orb itself. Hidden beneath it all, Syrus tried using her Fire Attribute to calm the flames, which thankfully quickly settled.
There was still a huge amount of energy within the orb, but since it was fire in nature, Syrus could easily feel its energy slowly released from the orb at a harmless pace. It was such a strange object, and Syrus made a note to ask Luna later about what on Earth this thing was supposed to be.
[We need to check on what spell he cast!] Luna panicked as she wasn’t sure how much his last-second spell succeeded.
[On it.] Syrus broke back onto the roof to see what disaster was coming. A bright red star was in the sky, which soon, with a bright flare, released numerous large sparks everywhere.
[What…] (Eva)
Fire fell down from the sky, the song of hellfire brought down by the one who realised they had been caught with their sins bleeding onto their hands for everyone to see.
[What are we to do!] (Eva)
[They aren’t that powerful…] Syrus judged the output to be more spectacle than destructive. Relatively speaking… Their earlier actions had damaged the source they would’ve given the spell its true power. Though Syrus's thoughts were only really comparative since the energy that was within the orb didn’t match what she felt from the sky, the destruction it would cause would still be great.
Luna focused her Moonlight, trying to figure out a way to block all that, but as the fire fell, a familiar beast jumped into the sky.
[Beara?] (Luna)
“Mooo!” The old ox Beara leapt onto the top of the building and cried out as black thunder rose from its fur towards the balls of fire.
They hadn’t seen the ox for weeks as it kept itself hidden outside the city, but seeing an opportunity, the mythic creature had shown itself to the country for the first time in decades to defend it.
[Haha! What a spectacle!] Syrus was impressed with the old creature’s power.
[Is this really the time, Syrus!?] (Luna)
[It’s fine.] Syrus leapt off the building and focused her strength. Luna followed her lead and empowered the lance with a Moonlight shell. Then they threw the crimson lance high into the sky at the core of the fire still in the sky. [Beara has completely covered the situation, so there is only one thing left for us to do.]
They weren’t sure why, now of all times, the little ox decided to reveal itself. Though, as a similar type of creature to Cobalt, the mythic ox was extremely intelligent, and at this moment, Anlesa believed that Beara likely knew a lot more than anyone really could guess.
The lance clashed with the core of the spell and destroyed the remains. The missile of a lance fell back to the ground with a loud bang, and Syrus walked over to grab it before walking to their target, who had been stuck this whole time.
The crimson devil had come for its prey.
Abea tried to scramble off the ground, but his scorched hands caused the old man to scream.
It was pathetic.
[We can’t let him live.] Luna declared.
[I…] Eva couldn't argue. They understood the thought process. For a man who could emit poison, any attempt to restrain him could result in death for the other party.
[It is a damn pain.] Syrus agreed that if he didn’t have that attribute, keeping him alive would be better. The confession and public execution could be used to direct the public’s emotions.
Rose slowly walked towards Abea, her lance held tight. The footsteps of the women who did this to him brought him from his pain dazed.
He turned, and a wave of wind and water came storming towards her, but she was unbothered. Finally, when she was close, Abea’s hands glowed as a black substance dripped from them as he tried to extend himself to reach her.
“Argh!”
Rose simply stabbed her lance through the man’s heart, and the weapon was lodged in the floor.
“Never again.”
“Who…”
“That is the question,” Rose muttered towards the quickly dying man as she turned away.
With the lance left behind, Rose appeared on the roof of the parliament building.
[Time for the theatrics.] Syrus felt the muscles pulse in her chest.
“PEOPLE OF ELETSCOEP!!! TODAY MARKS THE END OF A NIGHTMARE.” Rose’s voice vibrated through the city as Syrus used her power to scream as powerfully as she was physically able to. “FOR THE MAN THAT CAN POISON LIFE WITH HIS TOUCH IS NO MORE!!!”
The voice didn’t spread everywhere. There were limits to the power of her vocal cords, but there were a lot of people who heard the voice. People had crowded the streets near the parliament building, trying to learn anything about what was going on, and with that declaration, the city now learnt.
Abea Esther had been killed.
