Chapter 722 - 721: Underground City, Temple, and Mummies – The Guarantee of a Proper Adventure.
Chapter 722 - 721: Underground City, Temple, and Mummies – The Guarantee of a Proper Adventure.
Alex and Dean walked down the long dark corridor, descending deeper into the unknown. GIR, MIMI, and Stitch sat on Alex's shoulders and head, holding small flashlights and shining them in all directions, illuminating the narrow long corridor. Alex hadn't thought he would have to explore an ancient lost pyramid so soon, and — what was also important — do it in the company of Dean Winchester.None of their group knew what awaited them at the end of this narrow dark corridor. That was exactly why the desire to explore what this lost pyramid, which had remained buried under the sand for so many long years, had to offer only grew stronger with every moment. They continued walking down the dark corridor, and this desire became even more intense.
Dean was also very excited about this kind of adventure. After all, in his life, all sorts of shit kept happening that he had to clean up. His entire life moved in one single circle: returning home, finding a new case, and then hunting another monster or ghost that killed people. That was why exploring an ancient pyramid became a kind of escape for him from his terrible life, which consisted of blood and mountains of corpses he had left behind.
"Is this corridor definitely leading into the pyramid? Because I'm getting the feeling we're descending somewhere underground," Dean asked, continuing to walk forward and illuminating the dark corridor with his flashlight.
"According to the diary entries, this pyramid was built three thousand years before Cleopatra's birth," Alex said in a thoughtful tone, continuing to walk behind Dean and running his hand along the wall.
"And what does that information give me? Unlike Sam, I'm not a nerd who knows everything…" Dean said, stopping and shining his flashlight directly into Alex's face.
"It means this pyramid is more than five thousand years old. But the most interesting part is that this pyramid was built five hundred years earlier than the first pyramid," Alex said, raising his finger with a smirk on his face.
"Okay, this history lesson actually sounds interesting. And we're the first ones to come into this pyramid… But now I have another question," Dean said with a smirk, starting to walk further down the corridor and glancing back over his shoulder at Alex.
"What are you interested in? And I'll say right away — I don't know much about Egyptian history. Especially ancient history," Alex said, pulling a thin cigar from the pocket of his shorts.
"I'm curious how those British nerds even learned about this pyramid," Dean said, covering his mouth with his hand so as not to breathe in the dust.
"Well, they know a lot of things, so it's not surprising they managed to find out about a pyramid like this that was never mentioned anywhere," Alex said, shrugging his shoulders and lighting the thin cigar.
Hearing Alex's answer, Dean thought for a moment, nodded, and shrugged. From the very beginning, he had considered the Men of Letters to be ordinary boring people who just sat in one place and did nothing. And this opinion hadn't changed even after he saw the mountain of documents with various diaries, ancient books, and piles of different studies.
Continuing to walk through the long and narrow dark corridor, Alex and Dean tried to step carefully on the floor. Thanks to the many movies they had seen, they knew that such places could have traps like collapsing floors or spears shooting out of the walls. After a couple of minutes of slowly moving through the dark corridor, Alex and Dean finally reached the end. When they got there, Dean peeked into the room and illuminated it with his flashlight to make sure everything was fine.
The light from the flashlight fell on stone columns covered with almost completely worn-away writings and a thick layer of sand. The first thing that came to Dean's mind when he saw this spacious room was that it was some kind of ritual hall. Turning his head back, Dean looked at Alex over his shoulder and nodded, showing that everything was okay, and stepped into the spacious hall first.
Alex followed Dean, looking around with interest. While examining the columns and walls, Alex was curious about what was in this hall. Dean walked up to one of the columns and pulled out an old wooden torch. Clicking his lighter, Dean lit the torch to better illuminate the room.
"As I understand it, we should look around before going further. Usually in places like this there are warnings about what comes next," Dean said in a serious tone, raising the torch above his head.
"Where did you get such knowledge? Don't tell me little Dean was secretly studying behind everyone's back," Alex said with a chuckle, lighting another torch.
"Yeah, sure. All of this was in the mummy movies. A group of idiots ignores the warning and goes forward, and then everyone dies because of some mummy or ancient monster," Dean replied with sarcasm in his voice, rolling his eyes at Alex.
Alex laughed at Dean's words, but didn't deny it himself, since all his knowledge about pyramids came down to mummy movies and everything related to them. While Alex and Dean were talking, the trio of crazy archaeologists — GIR, MIMI, and Stitch — had already begun searching the spacious hall for treasures or anything they could drag away with them.
After finishing their conversation, Alex and Dean also began to examine the spacious hall. Alex walked up to one of the walls and brushed the sand off it to examine the hieroglyphs carved into the stone. Illuminating the hieroglyphs with the torch, Alex ran his fingers along the wall, trying to understand what story was described on these walls.
At the same time, Dean wandered around the spacious hall, examining everything around him with interest. Dean stopped near one statue whose face had already been destroyed by time. Raising the torch higher, Dean began to examine the statue with curiosity. After admiring the ancient statue for a few moments, Dean continued examining the hall. There were many statues of gods Dean didn't know, and it didn't matter to him.
After all, he was simply interested in exploring the pyramid — it wasn't every day you got the chance to be in a place like this. And Dean, who had grown up on old adventure movies, was glad to fulfill one of the wishes he had in the past. Stopping, Dean looked at Alex, who was muttering something under his breath while running his hand over the hieroglyphs carved into the wall.
"Heh, nerd," Dean smirked, looking at Alex.
"The echo in here is good, and I can hear everything. And if you don't want to get beaten up, shut up," Alex said without turning his head after hearing Dean's words.
Hearing Alex's words, Dean began to exaggeratedly make faces and mockingly repeat Alex's words. Trying to imitate Alex, Dean suddenly jerked his head to the side. At that exact moment, a whistle sounded past his ear. Blinking, Dean turned his head, raising the torch in front of him. Dean saw half of the thin cigar Alex had been smoking stuck in the stone column.
Approaching closer, Dean touched the thin cigar sticking out of the stone column and then looked at Alex, who hadn't even turned around and continued translating the text on the wall. Exhaling through his nose, Dean picked up a stone and threw it at Alex. Alex simply tilted his head, and the stone Dean threw hit the wall and bounced onto the floor.
Alex turned around and showed Dean his middle finger with a clear hint that he should fuck off. Dean just snorted and continued examining the hall. By this time, GIR, MIMI, and Stitch had managed to reach the ceiling, because they could do it, and no one could stop them.
Wandering around the hall, Dean eventually realized there was no further passage — only the corridor that would lead them back outside. After telling Alex about his discovery, Dean leaned against a stone statue, watching and listening as Alex translated the text on the wall.
Lazily yawning, Dean took a bottle of water from his pocket and started getting bored because they had ended up in a strange dead end. While taking a sip of water, Dean felt sand beginning to fall on his head. Raising his head to the ceiling, Dean saw a pair of eyes staring at him from the darkness. Jerking slightly from the mild fright, Dean grabbed the torch and raised it above himself to illuminate the ceiling. When the light from the torch fell on the ceiling, Dean saw Stitch clinging to it and staring back at him.
"Damn, you scared me, you little shit. I already thought some disgusting creature had crawled out of a tomb," Dean started swearing, pointing the torch toward Stitch.
Stitch, with an impassive face, showed Dean his middle finger and immediately crawled further along the ceiling. Dean's eyelid began to twitch as he watched Stitch crawling on the ceiling. But Dean understood that no matter how angry he got, if he touched one of this trio, something not very pleasant would await him later.
And Dean definitely didn't want his things to start disappearing from time to time, and least of all did he want to wake up one day taped to his own bed. Sighing, Dean stuck the torch back into the ground and sat down nearby. Half an hour later, Dean got tired of listening to ancient history and wanted either to leave and return to the bunker or find a way to go further.
And before he could voice his complaints, a loud crash sounded in the hall, as if the ceiling was about to collapse at any moment. Sand began to fall from the ceiling, and the stone columns started shaking, as if they would collapse in another second.
Alex and Dean exchanged glances, grabbed their torches, and ran to the center of the hall with the thought that they needed to run to the exit. Just as they were about to run toward the exit, Alex and Dean stopped when the crashing sound ceased. Stopping near the corridor that led to the surface, they turned around and saw that where there had previously been a wall at the far end of the hall, there was now a passage.
"Looks like someone found the way forward," Alex said with a smile, pointing his torch toward the newly appeared passage.
"So our adventure continues. I think what's ahead will be much more interesting than walls covered in writing and old statues," Dean said, stepping toward the opened passage.
Alex snorted and followed Dean to the opened passage. Approaching it, Alex and Dean didn't rush inside and first looked around. Rummaging in his bag, Dean pulled out a flare and lit it. The red light of the flare illuminated a spacious long corridor that went somewhere deep inside.
Swinging his arm, Dean threw the flare to illuminate more of the spacious corridor. The thrown flare flew to the middle of the spacious corridor and fell to the floor. Peering into the dark corridor illuminated only by the red light of the flare, Alex and Dean tried to figure out if there were any traps in this corridor. Thinking of a way to check the corridor for traps, Alex and Dean began exchanging opinions.
But the trio of crazy and impatient archaeologists had a completely opposite opinion. GIR, MIMI, and Stitch simply ran into the corridor, because they didn't care if there were traps or not. Waving their torches, the trio ran into the corridor with the simple desire to find more treasures.
And before Alex and Dean could react, Stitch stepped on a floor tile. The tile Stitch stepped on sank under his paw, and immediately afterward came the sound of a triggered mechanism. Stitch froze in place and fearfully turned his head back. Stitch's eyes widened with rage at the betrayal.
He saw GIR and MIMI standing next to Alex and Dean, as if they hadn't even entered the corridor. Forgetting that he might have activated a trap, Stitch began jumping in place, loudly cursing GIR and MIMI.
While Stitch used every possible insult he had picked up from Becky, the torches located along the walls of the entire corridor began lighting up one by one. While Stitch continued pouring out insults, he didn't notice that it had become light around him.
"Alright, that's enough. It's your own fault for not watching where you were going," Alex said, picking up Stitch and placing him on his shoulder.
Hearing Alex's words, Stitch only exaggeratedly began to complain, pointing his claw at GIR and MIMI, who pretended they hadn't set up their comrade. But the stream of insults and complaints from Stitch didn't stop, and GIR and MIMI began arguing back at Stitch.
Freezing in place as they started scolding him, Stitch blinked and began grinding his teeth in anger. Standing on Alex's shoulder, Stitch jumped onto GIR and MIMI, knocking both of them to the floor. Alex and Dean looked at the fighting trio, carefully stepped over them, and continued on.
"I hope what's ahead is what we came here for," Dean said, walking beside Alex.
"Or we'll end up in a labyrinth. Who knows," Alex said, shrugging his shoulders.
"Or giant scarabs that mummies ride on. I think I saw that in some old movie," Dean said with a smirk, putting his hands behind his head and walking next to Alex.
"Be careful with saying things like that, Dean. Otherwise we really might have to deal with mummies riding giant scarabs," Alex replied with a chuckle, glancing at Dean.
Dean just laughed at Alex's words, but at the same time thought that, given how their life usually went, it was entirely possible. Reaching the end of the corridor, Alex and Dean stopped in front of large stone gates on which two jackal-headed creatures were carved, as if guarding the passage ahead.
Exchanging glances, Alex and Dean nodded to each other and began pushing the stone gates. Thanks to their strength, Alex and Dean had no trouble opening the heavy stone gates. And when the gates swung open, complete darkness appeared before Alex and Dean, and under their feet was a long staircase leading somewhere downward.
"What kind of place is this? Can't see a damn thing," Dean said, trying to make out anything in the pitch darkness.
"Maybe you brought something with you that can help us?" Alex asked, throwing a lit torch downward.
The thrown torch began rolling down the steps while Alex and Dean watched how deep the staircase went. Gradually the torch became barely visible in the darkness until it reached the very bottom. Seeing this, Dean rummaged in his bag, trying to find something that would help them understand where they had ended up. After digging in the bag, Dean found a flare gun. Taking out the flare gun, Dean leaned forward a little, raised his hand, and immediately fired.
The flare shot upward, illuminating a very large area. The red light lit up the high ceiling, but Alex's and Dean's gazes were fixed on something completely different. They saw a huge ancient city below. And at the very end of this city stood a large ancient palace, in front of which was a large statue of Anubis holding a golden staff in his hands.
Alex's and Dean's gazes were fixed on what they saw before them. Meanwhile, the eyes of GIR, MIMI, and Stitch sparkled as they looked at the huge golden staff in the hands of the Anubis statue.
"Am I the only one who thought this is an underground city?" Dean said in an stunned tone, not taking his eyes off the ancient city below.
"Considering the statue of Anubis… Yeah, this really is an underground city… And it's stunning," Alex said, nodding and lighting a thin cigar.
"You only see a sight like this once in a lifetime… Heh, and Sam went to sleep. He's probably going to be really upset that he missed something like this," Dean said with a smirk, launching another flare to illuminate the area.
"Anyone in his place would be upset… Alright, we need to get to that temple. I'm almost sure the staff is there," Alex said, pointing at the distant temple.
"At least we won't have to search the entire place… How many houses there are. I have a feeling this city was originally built underground," Dean said, looking up at the ceiling.
"Possibly. In those times it was the era of gods and legends. So it's not surprising that an underground city was built in honor of Anubis," Alex said thoughtfully, stroking his chin.
"I hope we don't have to deal with the local deity. We'll just take the staff, take a couple of photos, and get out. I've been living on whiskey and coffee all week. I need a proper rest," Dean said, starting to descend the stairs.
"Integra has been living like that for several years and doesn't complain… Although yeah, you're old," Alex said in a lazy tone, descending after Dean.
Dean turned to Alex and rolled his eyes, not wanting to comment. While descending the long staircase, Alex raised his finger above his head. A sphere of light began to form at the tip of Alex's finger, illuminating everything around. A moment later, the light sphere flew up to the ceiling, illuminating the entire underground city as if the sun had finally risen there.
Raising his gaze to the ceiling, Dean looked at his torch and threw it aside as it was no longer needed. After descending to the very bottom of the long staircase, Alex and Dean began walking toward the temple. But GIR, MIMI, and Stitch had already rushed ahead, their goal being to seize the huge golden staff.
Watching the crazy trio of archaeologists rush forward, Alex and Dean were in no hurry and walked at a slow pace along the old abandoned ancient houses. Showing a bit of interest, Dean pushed open the door of one of the houses to see what was inside. Taking a flashlight from his pocket, Dean illuminated the interior of the house.
"Alex, look," Dean said, waving his hand to call Alex over.
"What's there?" Alex asked, walking up to Dean.
"Mummies… I think it would be more accurate to say — a family of mummies," Dean said, pointing his finger inside the house.
Standing behind Dean, Alex looked into the house and saw several old decayed corpses lying on the floor. Noticing how the corpses were positioned, Alex thought that these mummies had not died of natural causes. It was as if life had been sucked out of them and they had turned into mummies.
But deciding not to dwell on it, Alex just shrugged and suggested moving on. Dean also saw no reason to linger and followed Alex. On the way to the temple, Alex and Dean looked into several more old houses, and everywhere they saw decayed corpses lying on the floor. In every house Alex and Dean looked into, they saw the same picture.
"It won't be cool if all these mummies come back to life. We've already seen at least ten. And there are way more houses here," Dean said, walking next to Alex through the ancient city.
"And then what? The mummies will try to take over the world? Doesn't that sound funny to you?" Alex said sarcastically, giving Dean a lazy look.
"I've watched movies about zombie apocalypses. They were pretty funny… But Mummy Apocalypse or Apocalypse of the Mummies… Damn, how do you even say that correctly," Dean began, and a moment later became irritated because he didn't know how to express it properly.
"Both options sound fine, I guess. Only if a zombie bites you, you become a zombie… But if a mummy bites you…" Alex began with a smile.
"Then you're just an idiot who got bitten by an ancient reanimated corpse," Dean finished the sentence with a smirk.
Alex and Dean exchanged glances and laughed loudly, giving each other a high-five. After Alex and Dean high-fived, the clap echoed through the underground city, but it didn't bother them. They continued laughing, throwing stupid jokes at each other and continuing toward the ancient temple.
Reaching a high black marble staircase, Alex and Dean raised their eyes to the large statue of Anubis standing at the very top of the stairs. And what caught Alex's and Dean's attention was GIR, MIMI, and Stitch trying to break off the arm of the Anubis statue that was holding the golden staff.
Deciding to ignore this trio, Alex and Dean began climbing the steps to the temple. When they reached the very top, Alex and Dean looked at the temple, which looked as if it had been carved inside a rock. The columns supporting the temple were carved in the shape of jackals holding up the ceiling.
"I hope you're sure this city belonged to some pharaoh?" Dean asked, looking away from the temple and at Alex.
"After what we've seen… I'm already doubting it… Maybe the pharaoh and his people simply worshiped Anubis," Alex said thoughtfully, slightly tilting his head to the side.
"Well, let's hope we don't have to deal with another arrogant deity with a stick up his ass because no one worships him anymore," Dean said with a sigh, starting to walk toward the temple.
Alex also sighed and raised his gaze to the statue when sand began falling on his head. Stepping aside so the sand wouldn't get in his eyes, Alex thought about how GIR, MIMI, and Stitch were going to drag the huge golden staff back to the bunker. Shaking his head, Alex quickly caught up with Dean.
Reaching the temple, Alex and Dean stopped at the gates and began pushing them. Swinging open the massive stone gates, Alex and Dean saw before them a spacious funerary hall with statues of Anubis placed along the walls and a black sarcophagus in the center of the hall. Alex raised his finger and used another spell to create a sphere of light. Illuminating the entire room, Alex and Dean began approaching the sarcophagus.
The closer they got to the sarcophagus, the stronger the unpleasant feeling they felt inside. And with their vast experience, Alex and Dean quickly realized that everything definitely wouldn't end just like that. Approaching the sarcophagus, Alex couldn't help but notice that it was also made in honor of Anubis. Brushing off the dust, Alex began reading the inscriptions carved on the sarcophagus.
"So what does it say? Who is buried inside?" Dean asked, standing on the other side of the sarcophagus and watching Alex.
"Hmm… If I translated it correctly… It says that inside the sarcophagus rests the one who deceived and subjugated death…" Alex began, running his finger over the inscriptions.
"Looks like someone lied that he cheated death… Well, just look, he's lying inside," Dean said with a smirk, pointing at the sarcophagus.
"For the love of the Creator, Dean. I'm not finished… There's a second part. Here rests the one who tried to replace death itself and was cursed and rejected," Alex continued translating the text on the sarcophagus, giving Dean a blank look.
"Yeah, definitely not a cursed sarcophagus… And why Death — you're right here. Before you there was an old man. And I don't think you can just replace Death without the ring on your finger," Dean said sarcastically, raising his gaze to Alex.
"I think this isn't about Death herself, but about Anubis. I think Anubis cursed the idiot pharaoh who wanted to take his place," Alex said, lighting a thin cigar.
"And if we open the coffin, will we have to deal with Anubis or a mummy?" Dean asked with interest, looking at Alex.
"Nope… Anubis was hired by Heaven to judge souls and all that. Like a tax inspector, but for souls," Alex said, pointing his finger upward.
"Oh, well then okay… So, shall we open it?" Dean said with a shrug, not at all surprised by Alex's words.
Alex looked at Dean and nodded. Gripping the edges of the sarcophagus lid, Alex and Dean began slowly sliding it aside. After moving the lid a little, Dean raised his hand, signaling Alex not to rush. Stopping, Dean took out a flashlight and shone it inside.
At that moment, the last thing he wanted was for a reanimated mummy to suddenly jump out at them. Shining the flashlight through the formed gap, Dean made sure the mummy inside was definitely dead and gave Alex a thumbs up, showing that they could open the sarcophagus further.
A moment later, the sarcophagus lid fell to the floor with a crash and split apart. Alex and Dean looked at the destroyed sarcophagus lid and exchanged glances. Shrugging, Alex and Dean looked inside and saw a mummy wrapped in bandages, with a golden mask on its face, and in its hands lay a golden staff resembling a khopesh.
"Is this the staff or the sickle we're looking for? Or just a golden trinket to stroke the dead guy's ego?" Dean asked, pointing at the golden khopesh in the mummy's hands.
"I think it's… Hmm… Strange," Alex said thoughtfully, examining the staff.
"What exactly is strange? Don't tell me it's another crappy artifact," Dean said, pinching the bridge of his nose and looking at Alex.
"How should I put it… This khopesh is truly imbued with the power of Death itself," Alex said, raising his gaze to Dean.
"Like your Scythe?" Dean asked, pointing his finger at Alex.
"Almost. It doesn't have enough power to kill literally everything. But there's plenty of power inside the staff," Alex said, nodding and summoning his scythe for comparison.
"So it's a jackpot. Then let's grab the staff and get the hell out of here. We'll figure out how to use this staff when we get home," Dean said, grabbing the golden khopesh.
Pulling the golden khopesh out of the mummy's hands, Dean smirked and started to leave. Alex took one last look at the mummy and followed Dean. Dean walked beside Alex, casually tapping the golden khopesh on his shoulder.
They had already reached the exit from the hall when Alex and Dean heard a strange sound of cracking bones. Stopping, Alex and Dean exchanged glances and sighed simultaneously. Turning their heads back, they saw the mummy's hand gripping the edge of the sarcophagus.
"So the mummy did come back to life after all. Great," Dean sighed, tapping the golden khopesh on his shoulder.
"Don't we need to watch the mummy climb out of the sarcophagus?" Alex asked, pointing his finger at the mummy.
"I think so… At least there's only one," Dean said, shrugging carelessly.
Alex looked at Dean and nodded carelessly, shrugging slightly. Watching the mummy slowly rise from the sarcophagus, Alex and Dean thought they were only missing popcorn. Gradually the mummy climbed out of the sarcophagus, making cracking sounds with every movement.
The mummy barely stood on its feet, as if remembering how to move. And even though the mummy's face was hidden behind the golden mask, Alex and Dean knew it was looking straight at them. With difficulty straightening up, the mummy raised its withered finger and pointed it at Alex and Dean.
"Thеzu thеn, ahauiu-i, seker khekhaui!" the mummy pronounced in a hoarse voice, continuing to point its finger at Alex and Dean.
Hearing the mummy's words, Dean slightly raised an eyebrow and awkwardly scratched his cheek with his finger. He didn't understand a word of what the mummy said, so he looked at Alex. Alex, however, looked at the mummy with interest after it spoke. Alex's gaze shifted to the statue of Anubis, then back to the mummy.
"And what did he just say?" Dean asked, pointing at the mummy.
"It was something like… 'Rise, my warriors, and punish the intruders,'" Alex said thoughtfully, shaking the ash from his thin cigar onto the floor.
"Ah, now everything makes sense. Looks like we're in deep shit," Dean said, as if everything had fallen into place.
"Yeah, we're in deep shit. Completely," Alex agreed, nodding in a carefree manner.
While Alex and Dean were casually chatting, the statues of Anubis in the hall began to crack. Hearing the cracking of stone, Alex and Dean looked at the Anubis statues, which were now staring back at them.
Slowly, the stone statues of Anubis began to descend from their pedestals, gripping various weapons in their hands. Seeing more than a dozen reanimated stone statues, Dean reached into his bag and pulled out explosives.
"I think it's time for us to run," Dean said, setting the timer on the explosives.
"You're reading my mind," Alex agreed, not wanting to deal with the mummy and stone statues.
Dean threw the explosives at the feet of the stone statues and immediately began running away with Alex. Running out of the temple, Alex and Dean began closing the large stone doors to prevent the statues and mummies from getting out. Slamming the stone doors shut, Alex and Dean exchanged glances and smirked.
Not wanting to linger, Alex and Dean immediately ran down the steps. After descending from the temple, Alex and Dean saw the huge golden staff lying on the floor with GIR, MIMI, and Stitch sitting on it. Picking up the trio in their arms, Alex and Dean were about to run further. But standing at the very top of the steps, Alex and Dean froze in place.
"Well, fuck," Dean swore, looking down.
"And who the hell told you to jinx it. Mummies this, mummies that. Fuck," Alex swore, pinching the bridge of his nose.
At the very bottom of the steps, a huge army of mummies had gathered — the reanimated inhabitants of the underground city. The mummies were slowly climbing the steps, reaching their hands toward Alex and Dean.
Looking around for the best way to escape, Alex's gaze fell on the huge golden staff that GIR, MIMI, and Stitch had managed to break off. A crazy but very exciting idea instantly formed in Alex's head. Lowering GIR, MIMI, and Stitch back to the floor, Alex ran up to the huge golden staff.
"Oi, Dean. Help," Alex said, lifting the end of the massive golden staff.
"If you want to use this thing as a battering ram against zombies… then I'm all for it," Dean said, lifting the golden staff.
Alex nodded with a wide smile. Alex and Dean lifted the golden staff and approached the edge of the staircase. Dean held the golden staff from behind, Alex from the front, and GIR, MIMI, and Stitch sat in the middle. Exchanging glances, Alex and Dean began quickly descending the steps. Running down to the very bottom, Alex and Dean immediately knocked down the first mummy standing in their way with the golden staff.
Without stopping, Alex and Dean continued running forward, knocking down everything in their path while GIR, MIMI, and Stitch scattered explosives in all directions. Sweeping away everything in their path with the golden battering ram, Alex and Dean quickly reached the staircase leading out of this place. Stopping, Alex and Dean looked back at the army of mummies chasing them.
"Blow it," Alex said with a smirk.
Stitch immediately laughed maniacally and pressed the button on the detonator. Loud explosions began sounding throughout the underground city, causing the stone houses to fly apart and the mummies to be swept away by the shockwave. Placing the large golden staff on their shoulders, Alex and Dean began climbing the steps upward, paying no attention to the explosions thundering behind them.
Reaching the very top, Dean looked at his watch and glanced back over his shoulder at the temple. At that moment, a loud explosion thundered inside the temple, instantly destroying the entire temple. The shockwave from the explosion was so strong that the ceiling began to collapse downward in huge boulders.
Enjoying this huge explosion, Alex and Dean noticed that the destruction affected not only the ceiling above the temple but also the place where they were. Realizing they could end up buried, Alex and Dean ran down the corridor to get outside.
The ceiling behind them began collapsing very quickly. Running from the collapsing ceiling, Alex and Dean didn't stop for a moment, even when they ran through the hall from which they had entered the underground city. Soon Alex and Dean ran outside and fell onto the sand. At that same moment, the pyramid and the Sphinx behind them began to collapse and sink into the ground.
"That was awesome," Dean said, rolling onto his back.
"It sure was. And we stole a nice bonus," Alex said with a chuckle, pointing at the massive golden staff they had used as a battering ram.
Looking at the golden staff, Dean laughed and continued lying on the sand. After lying there a little longer, Alex and Dean were going to return to the bunker, since their little adventure had come to an end.
To be continued...
(I felt so bad today that I just didn't want to drag out this wandering through the underground city and meeting mummies. The most important thing is that Alex and Dean had fun, and we can move on with the story. And I think I'll go lie down and hope I don't die. Peace, love, and a mummy are not zombies.)
