Chapter 64: Mr. Lockhart's Deal
Chapter 64: Mr. Lockhart's Deal
"Professor Hamilton, you'll definitely agree to this, right?"
"I..." Loila took a few steps back and bumped into the bookshelf behind her. Several books fell from it and hit her on the head.
"This is a very interesting thing." Lockhart rubbed his hands together, looking at Loila, who was sitting on the ground surrounded by books.
"We can teach the students how to use wands together, then duel together and improve together!"
Lockhart's voice grew louder and louder as he spoke, a smug smile on his face.
"But...but I..." Loila said, covering her head, "I'm not quite..."
"You can definitely do it, Professor Hamilton," Lockhart said, head held high. "I have complete faith in your abilities."
"You are definitely a worthy opponent to rival me."
Ah...that's not necessarily true!
Loila still remembers the story in Lockhart's "Magic Circle Manual," where he was someone who could defeat eighteen giants and tame a fire dragon all by himself!
Loila felt she definitely couldn't do it!
"I'm not... not that good..." Loila said softly, pursing her lips, "And I'm also... not good at it..."
"lecture……"
"It's alright," Lockhart said, patting his chest. "You don't need to say a word."
"I know you want to maintain that silence..."
"Ah... silent but powerful..." Lockhart said with a laugh, "I'll speak for you."
"You just need to participate," Lockhart said, pulling out a chair and sitting down. "We'll start with a lively duel."
"Just... a duel?" Loila asked, mustering her courage.
If it's just a duel, she's actually not that bad... She's quite good at dueling; she won the Academy Duel Championship twice at Durmstrang.
But this skill... probably can't defeat Mr. Lockhart, right?
But losing to Mr. Lockhart shouldn't be considered shameful, right?
Oh no... why did I even think of joining this dueling club?!
I came to Hogwarts to do something important...
Although I haven't done anything productive in the past few months.
Seeing that Loila was still about to refuse, Lockhart continued, "By the way, Professor Hamilton."
"I heard Professor McGonagall said you've been searching for your memories of Defense Against the Dark Arts class lately, is that right?" He nodded rather proudly. "I think I'm quite good at teaching."
"Yes..." Loila's eyes lit up. Mr. Lockhart is a famous wizard and writer. His memories must be very useful, right?
Moreover... Dumbledore only gave him the memory of one class period, and he was just worrying about what to do next week... He didn't expect Mr. Lockhart to be willing to help him.
"I can help you, Professor Hamilton," Lockhart continued with a smile. "If you're willing to join the Duel Club, I can provide you with a semester's worth of Defense Against the Dark Arts memorization."
"One...one semester?" Loila subconsciously thought she was dreaming!
If I help Mr. Lockhart, I won't have to worry about this for the rest of the semester.
"That's right, one semester," Lockhart continued, his charming smile alluring. "You've never met someone as generous as me before, have you?"
"Indeed...indeed not..." You are at least more generous than Dumbledore.
Loila looked at Lockhart with gratitude; his smile was so bright and delightful!
"Then let's..." Loila excitedly took out the headband and said, "The matter of memories."
"I'm sorry, Professor Hamilton," Lockhart waved his hand and said, "I have some other things to attend to today."
"And I'll be very busy these next few days." He shrugged to himself. "I have a book signing event, and I also have to do things with my fans."
"My dear fans have replied," he said with a slight chuckle and a hint of smugness. "Professor Hamilton probably can't possibly understand the exhaustion involved."
Ah... but actually, Loila really wanted to say that she also deeply agreed with this kind of hard work. She had to spend time every day replying to the students who wrote letters, most of which were related to the content of the classes.
However, seeing Mr. Lockhart's helpless expression, she decided not to add to his troubles.
But if Mr. Lockhart can't give me the memories of this week, I'll have to go to Professor McGonagall.
Fortunately, there's still one day left tomorrow, so we should still have time.
"So, is it settled then?" Lockhart shrugged, looking at the dazed Loila. "Next Monday afternoon, first period, in the auditorium."
"Um...okay...okay." Loila paused, then suddenly seemed to remember something and asked softly, "Um...Mr. Lockhart, why...why did you choose me?"
Loila thought and thought but couldn't figure out how Mr. Lockhart had chosen her. After all, she wasn't particularly talented or famous, and she wasn't even familiar with Mr. Lockhart before.
"Ah...this matter," Lockhart stopped at the door, "is related to Professor Snape."
"I was hoping he would come and help me," he said, shrugging. "But he seems to be busy with experiments."
"So he recommended you." Lockhart smiled slightly, pursing his lips. "I also think you're very suitable."
Is that how it is?
Loira felt she should thank Snape again... How would she manage the students' classes for the next semester without Professor Snape?
Watching Mr. Lockhart leave, Loila slowly breathed a sigh of relief and sat down on the ground.
She casually waved her wand to send the books back to the shelf, and then pulled out a Potions textbook from it.
She found this in an old bookcase. Although it was a bit tattered, it contained many notes left by previous owners.
This is incredibly useful for someone like me who isn't very good at making potions.
However, it's not applicable to Mr. Lupin's case, because this textbook seems a bit old and doesn't contain any content related to wolfsbane...
Loila also stuffed another updated textbook into the cabinet.
what……
I almost forgot.
Loila waved her wand and summoned Mr. Riddle's diary again.
"Mr. Riddle, about the secret room..."
"Don't be too hasty, Miss Hamilton," Riddle replied quickly. "It's not the right time yet."
"That secret room isn't something you can just open whenever you want."
Riddle's words startled Loila...
"Is there a magic lock array in the secret room?"
"No!" Riddle answered Loila's question in the next second: "Please don't ask about this again."
"When the time is right, I will take you there."
Alright then... Loila isn't in a rush to go to the secret room right now, after all, she has a lot on her plate lately.
Wolfsbane Potion, classes, dueling club... Where was the last time I was this busy?
It's definitely not Nurmengard... and it shouldn't be in Durmstrang either, right?
Loila couldn't help but smile.
She suddenly realized that she didn't actually dislike this feeling of being busy; at least it was much better than the loneliness she experienced at Durmstrang.
And don't you already have two friends?
Who knows, maybe a third friend will come soon... Will it be Hagrid, Mr. Lockhart, or Mr. Riddle?
It's such a blissful fantasy!
