Chapter 283 Late Night Talk
Late at night, Loila sat in her office drinking coffee and looking at the magic circle diagrams in front of her, or rather, a whole bunch of magic circle diagrams.
These are the students' Christmas assignments, and I must say—most of them did a pretty good job, which made Loila quite happy.
It's always nice to have something you like valued by others, isn't it?
Surrounded by a bunch of magic circles, Loila had a smile on her face. She never thought that working at Hogwarts would be such a happy day.
Miss Granger's assignments have always been very good—deserving an excellent grade. Mr. Potter's are also good.
Is this Mr. Weasley's homework?
If only his homework were as good as his mouth — Loila resisted the urge to give Mr. Weasley a failing grade, and in the end, she reluctantly drew a passing grade.
Of course, Loila didn't just give them scores; she would also pick up a quill and write down her opinions and suggestions for improvement on the magic circle.
This is magic array studies, a profession that should be perfect and without any flaws. If it weren't for Hogwarts, Loila would have wanted to punish these students who didn't do their homework properly.
As Loila's quill pen made a "rustling" sound, the clock on the wall quickly reached midnight.
"Phew—" Miss Nagini, who was sitting behind Loila reading a novel, stretched and said, "Aren't you going to rest, Loila?"
"Ah—wait—wait a little longer—" Roy was concentrating on writing comments for her student, and she muttered to herself, "I'm thinking—thinking about whether to cast a Cruciatus Curse on him—"
"Mr. Longbottom? Or Mr. Finigan?" Nagini guessed casually.
"It's Mr. Malfoy."
"That's not surprising then." She slowly stood up and walked to Loira's side. "Alright, there's still time tomorrow, isn't there?"
"You should rest now." She lowered her head and gently stroked Loila's forehead with her slender fingers. "If you don't rest now, Mischief will be coming."
Dumbledore is more terrifying than Peeves — but Miss Nagini is right, it is indeed a bit late — and Loila looked at the signatures on the next few assignments and had a feeling that she would be so angry that she couldn't sleep after reading them.
So it would be better to rest first?
Thinking this, she closed her quill and slowly got up, stretching lightly as well.
"Hmm~"
"Bang bang bang".
"Huh?!" The sudden knocking interrupted Loila's actions. She paused and looked at Nagini, who was equally surprised.
"Is that Pippi the Ghost?" Nagini muttered to himself.
Loila, however, felt that Dumbledore had come—it's all your fault, Miss Nagini, don't you know that Dumbledore has a curse that appears whenever he is mentioned?
She pursed her lips, thought for a few seconds, and then carefully walked to the door of the room.
"Who—who?"
"It's me, my cousin."
"Hmm?"
Why is that Peterson's voice? Loila paused, a little surprised, and asked, "You—what's wrong?"
"It's nothing urgent, if my cousin is already resting—" Hearing Peterson's words, Loila paused and glanced at Nagini.
Nagini shrugged, and with a helpless expression, transformed into a small snake and slithered into Loila's robe.
"I haven't rested yet." Loila said, gently opening the door and peeking through the crack at Peterson, who was standing in the doorway holding a lantern.
Wearing his gold-rimmed glasses, he gave Loila a slight, gentle nod: "Excuse me, cousin."
"I was on night patrol tonight and thought I'd come over to see my cousin," he said with a smile. "I figured she wasn't resting."
"Are they researching magic arrays?"
"Ah—no—no," Loila said, tapping her hand. "I'm grading homework."
"I see—" Peterson maintained his smile: "My cousin is such a responsible professor."
"May I come in?" he asked, shrugging. "Chatting in the hallway is a bit—"
"Ah—I'm sorry—I'm sorry." Loila opened the wooden door to let Peterson in, and then carefully closed the door again.
"Cousin, since you're not resting, I have some questions for you," Peterson said in a slightly lowered voice after Loila closed the door. "Will you have time in a few days, cousin?"
"Hmm?" Loila had a bad feeling. Was Peterson going to—
"Does your cousin want to go back for another visit?" Peterson pushed up his glasses. "The last time we met was a little too brief."
"Your father hasn't had a proper talk with you yet."
"He wants to talk to you again."
"Ah—I—" Loila subconsciously wanted to refuse. Although her family hadn't attacked her or made sarcastic remarks last time, Loila didn't know why she had no desire to go back.
Was it because of what that maid, Ms. Shirley, said? Or was it because of myself—my own simple fear?
Loila couldn't quite put her finger on it—but in short, she really didn't want to go back.
So she gently shook her head: "I—I've been a little—a little busy lately."
"Is that so?" Peterson nodded knowingly, then said, "Are you busy with the magic array?"
"Is it possible?" Loila said uncertainly, "And... there's also the dueling tournament."
She blinked her blue eyes and said, "I want to be the referee—"
Peterson shrugged helplessly upon hearing this: "Headmaster Dumbledore is far too reliant on my cousin—these tasks don't actually have to be done by her."
Do you think so too?
It's a pity, Peterson, you didn't even get a seat on the school board, otherwise you could have just said a few words to Dumbledore and gotten your cousin out of her misery.
Loila sighed as she looked at her "disappointing" junior.
"By the way, cousin." Peterson frowned slightly, as if remembering something. "Has Rozier bothered you again?"
"Huh?" Loila tensed up instinctively, her eyes darting around as she said, "No, nothing—"
"Really?" Peterson's lips twitched slightly, even though it seemed like a casual question. "Cousin—you need to know that Rozier is very dangerous."
"She even tried to kill my cousin before—and then—" he said, lowering his voice, "I also suspect that she was the one who broke into the office that day."
"She definitely wants to steal my cousin's magic array data—"
Miss Hilo shouldn't be interested in this, right? Lori didn't sense any interest in magic arrays at all—Peterson, on the other hand, seemed more interested in them.
Ah—he is, after all, Mr. PH—thinking of this, Loira suddenly felt a little confused—
If Peterson is Mr. PH, didn't he apply for a patent for magic array techniques before? Why would he help himself?
"So, cousin, you absolutely have to be with her—"
Seeing that Peterson seemed about to lecture her, Loira coughed and changed the subject: "That—"
That's exactly what I wanted to ask—"
"Regarding the patent for the magic array—"
"What's wrong, cousin?" Peterson raised an eyebrow almost immediately and asked, "Is there a problem?"
"Or has my cousin created a new magic circle?"
"No—no!" Loila shook her head. "I'm just a little—a little curious—"
"Have you applied for a patent for your magic circle before?"
"—" This question startled Peterson. After a few seconds of silence, he said, "Never before—"
"Oh————" Loila nodded, then didn't know what to ask. Maybe she should ask why?
But wouldn't that touch on someone's sore spot?
Or is it that—
After thinking for a long time, Loila slowly said, "That—that Peterson is really amazing—"
"Such professionalism on their first patent application!"
"It's nothing, just a cousin," Peterson said, shaking his head. "If there's nothing else, I'll be going now."
"Cousin, you should get some rest too."
"Ah—okay—" Peterson's somewhat sudden farewell made Loila feel a little awkward, perhaps because she had asked him a question that displeased him?
"Clatter".
The office door closed, and Hogwarts fell silent once more.
