Chapter 104 Did Hagrid Understand the Oath?
Picking up where we left off, Fudge saw the phoenix badge in Harry's hand and turned ashen-faced in shock. He quickly called for Scrimgeour and his fellow Aurors to protect him closely.
Do you know what the Phoenix Society is?
It turns out that twenty years ago, the Death Eaters wreaked havoc on the world, causing bloodshed and chaos in Europe. Ordinary wizards dared not cry out at night upon hearing their cries, and even the Ministry of Magic bowed down in submission.
Just as the flames of evil were raging, Dumbledore rose up in rebellion. He raised the phoenix, rallied the Society, and called upon heroes from all over the world to join him in punishing the wicked. Truly, their righteous gathering astonished the world, and their spirit shook the heavens!
But why is Fudge afraid?
As the saying goes, conquering a kingdom is easy, but maintaining it is difficult. If we're talking about conquering the world, we need the heroes of the Order of the Phoenix; but if we're talking about governing the world, we need the scholars of the Ministry of Magic.
Dumbledore, being a man of great reason, understood the principle of "when the cunning rabbit dies, the hunting dog is cooked." With Voldemort defeated, he dispersed the Order of the Phoenix, sending the heroes home to avoid any unforeseen trouble.
Unfortunately, Fudge was narrow-minded and suspicious all the time. Even though Dumbledore was confined to Hogwarts to take charge of the teaching, he still couldn't rest easy.
Tonight, seeing Harry holding the Phoenix Badge, just like the Order of the Phoenix twenty years ago, how could he not know that Dumbledore was training assassins and raising a private army?
"Dumbledore! I knew your reason for becoming the headmaster of Hogwarts wasn't that simple!"
Hearing Fudge's ravings, Harry felt a sense of unease and whispered to Dumbledore, "Does this bastard have some kind of hysteria?"
Dumbledore shook his head slightly, without answering, and raised his finger to tap his temple.
Harry cupped his hands in a gesture of respect, understanding the situation perfectly.
Fudge felt a surge of embarrassment and annoyance when he saw that Dumbledore was completely ignoring him and talking to Harry as if he didn't exist.
"Scrimgeour, what are you standing there for?"
"Minister, I think the most important thing right now is to confirm Mr. Potter's words," Scrimgeour said in a deep voice. "If it really is the Mysterious Man who has returned, we need to prepare in advance."
Hearing such decisive words, Harry stared intently at them.
The middle-aged man had a head of unruly hair like a lion's mane, and his face was sculpted like it had been carved by a knife and axe, showing signs of the hardships of battle. He was truly a hero who had fought his way through mountains of corpses and seas of blood.
Harry clapped and cheered, "I thought the Ministry of Magic was full of good-for-nothings, but I never expected to find such a decisive and capable person here."
"Thank you for your compliment, Mr. Potter." Scrimgeour bowed slightly, then turned to Fudge and said, "Minister, I suggest we go to the Slytherin common room and ask these students some questions."
"Ah, of course, this is definitely going to be done." Fudge tightened his lips. "But it will be left to the Aurors to handle. Dumbledore will still be coming with us."
Harry drew his sword and glared, "You bastard, are your ears just for decoration? Didn't you hear what I just said?!"
"I withdraw my impeachment of Professor Dumbledore," Lucius suddenly declared. "Hogwarts cannot do without him."
Mrs. Flint frowned and said cryptically, "Lucius, don't forget to consider the bigger picture."
"Ha! Now it's not your son who's been murdered!"
Lucius, his face contorted with rage, suddenly drew his wand and cast a fire spell, turning the impeachment document to ashes.
"Hogwarts cannot afford to lose Professor Dumbledore! If the other members of the Board of Governors have any objections, let them go to Malfoy Manor and speak to me personally!"
Seeing his righteous and awe-inspiring appearance, Harry couldn't help but feel a surge of murderous intent.
That scoundrel is truly a man of two languages, one for men and one for ghosts. You should know that the secret room being left wide open was his doing, and now that his own son has been murdered, he's putting on this virtuous act.
If I spare his life, it will surely cause great disaster in the future.
Lucius suddenly felt a chill on his neck, thinking that Fudge was about to fight him. He quickly raised his wand, stepped back to Dumbledore's side, and cautiously said:
"Mr. Minister, I must say that I also have a few friends in Wisengamori."
Seeing that the situation was hopeless and that his Aurors only obeyed Scrimgeour's orders, Fudge had no choice but to nod in agreement, even though he was extremely unwilling.
"...Alright, let's go check out the Slytherin common room first."
Scrimgeour turned and shouted, "Everyone! Hexagram! Protect the children!"
The Aurors were on high alert and headed for the castle with Harry and the others.
Just as he was about to step out of the room, Dumbledore turned back and said, "Hagrid, I'm sorry to have bothered you tonight."
"You can rest now. Harry and I will handle things in the castle."
Hagrid hesitated for a moment, then said, "Professor Dumbledore, I'd like to ask, what is the unbreakable vow you and Harry made?"
"I need to protect you, as well as the lives of Miss Granger and Mr. Weasley."
After hearing this, Hagrid stood there stunned for a long moment, then murmured, "When did this happen?"
"Just last year. At that time, Harry didn't know that Voldemort was the one who wanted to steal the Philosopher's Stone, but he was very worried about you."
But with a loud "boom," Hagrid collapsed to the ground, his eyes devoid of any light.
"Harry... Harry went to this lengths for me?"
Dumbledore sighed. "Go to sleep, Hagrid. The sun will rise again tomorrow."
Poems as proof:
He doesn't flaunt his wealth or status in ordinary times, so he has to be cowardly and hide.
They thought they had broken free of their ropes, but in reality they were still bound in shackles.
Huh! The unbreakable vow has come true, only today do I realize who I truly am?
Enough of this rambling. Now, let's talk about how Harry and his companions returned to the castle, and a house-elf rushed in to report.
By this time, the students of the Fourth House knew that the Basilisk had returned to cause trouble. The four heads of the house and a group of professors were stationed in their respective common rooms, while Percy and the others had been driven to Gryffindor by Snape.
After the explanation was finished, the owner of the pet appeared somewhat hesitant.
Harry, seeing this clearly, asked, "Do you have anything else to say?"
"Oh, sir, there's a slight problem in the Slytherin common room. We're short one student—no, one insignificant person—"
"Since they're insignificant, shut up!" Lucius interrupted rudely. "Are you deliberately creating panic? Huh?"
The pet elf trembled and immediately fell silent.
Upon reaching the Slytherin common room, Lucius rushed forward, surveyed the students inside, and cried out in alarm and anger, "Where's my son?!"
"Where did Draco go?!"
"Stop yelling, Lucius."
Snape sat upright on the sofa, his face seemingly covered with frost, his breath coming out only cold air.
"Your son has been taken away by the Dark Lord."
These words were like a hammer blow to the heart, an iron rod to break bones. Upon hearing them, Lucius's legs went weak and he fell backward.
Scrimgeour quickly put his arm around Malfoy's armpits and said, "Please be careful, Mr. Malfoy."
"Why?!"
Lucius struggled to his feet, grabbed the elf's uniform collar, and snarled, "Why didn't you mention this the whole way here!"
"Because, because Mr. Draco Malfoy is no longer a student of Hogwarts."
"He's been fired!"
