Chapter 22 If you're afraid, then give up.
Chapter 22 If you're afraid, then give up.
"Father, what exactly is Samadhi True Fire?"
Although I had heard the legend of Samadhi Fire since I was a child, and had also seen Zhuge Qing's description of Samadhi Fire in the original work in my previous life.
However, Zhuge Yan still didn't quite understand what the Samadhi True Fire actually was.
Zhuge Duan did not answer directly. He paused for a long time before slowly saying, "Samadhi True Fire is not a magic spell."
"Not magic?"
"It doesn't require hand seals, Qimen Dunjia formations, or the circulation of Qi; it doesn't even require you to stand in an auspicious position."
Zhuge Duan's voice deepened.
"What it needs is you, or more precisely, your spirit and energy."
Zhuge Yan's eyebrows twitched slightly.
Vitality and spirit?
"The upper elixir is the spirit, the middle elixir is the qi, and the lower elixir is the essence."
Zhuge Duan spoke slowly and deliberately.
"When the three are combined and ignited according to the law, this is the Samadhi Fire. It does not burn flesh and blood, nor true qi, nor anything tangible; it burns only the spirit and soul!"
Whether it's the soul of a living person or the resentment of a dead person, as long as it's related to the spirit, the Samadhi True Fire is their natural enemy.
The Yang spirits of Quanzhen, the spirits of shamans, and all those evil spirits are no match for the Samadhi True Fire.
The stronger one's spirit, the fiercer the flames. The resulting damage is irreversible.
Zhuge Yan remained silent.
It is specifically designed to burn the soul.
He mentally went over those three words several times.
This means that those bizarre and unpredictable attacks on the soul will be completely suppressed by the Samadhi True Fire.
"But that's not its most impressive feature."
Zhuge Duan lowered his voice even further.
"The Samadhi Fire can not only burn the souls of others, it can also burn your own."
Burn away greed, burn away delusions, burn away inner demons. Every disciple of the Wuhou School who has cultivated to the stage of Samadhi True Fire will encounter inner demons.
It's not some external evil spirit; you nurtured it yourself.
The stronger you are, the deeper your inner demons run. The Samadhi Fire is the only thing that can burn them away.
Zhuge Yan's Adam's apple bobbed slightly.
"In the past hundred years, there have been people from the Wuhou School who have taken this step, but none of them dared to light this fire easily."
Yan'er, do you know why this is?
Why?
A hint of doubt flashed in Zhuge Yan's eyes.
"Because once the Samadhi Fire is ignited, the first thing it burns is yourself!"
After these words were spoken, the study remained quiet for a long time.
"The cultivation of Samadhi True Fire has no scriptures or written records; it is passed down orally from one clan chief to the next."
Zhuge Duan spoke again, his tone returning to its previous calmness.
"The method is actually only a few simple sentences. After listening to it, how far you can go depends on yourself."
He held up three fingers.
"First, eliminate greed. You must not have the slightest desire for power or for the Samadhi Fire itself."
If you think the Samadhi Fire is powerful and you desire it—if you have this thought, the fire will not ignite.
"Second, eliminate delusions. The moment you ignite the fire of samadhi, you must be in a state of extreme stillness and concentration."
Samadhi, or samadhi, is translated as "concentration." Even the slightest fluctuation of thought will cause the fire to backfire.
"Third, extinguish inner demons. Once the fire is lit, it will automatically burn towards the deepest obsession in your heart."
When obsessions are burned away, inner demons are extinguished.
If you can withstand it, the fire becomes a part of you; if you can't, your soul will be burned to ashes by your own fire.
He lowered his finger.
"All three points boil down to the same thing: you have to be able to let go!"
Let go of the greed for power, the obsession with success or failure, and the thing you can't let go of most in your heart.
Zhuge Yan listened in silence for a long time.
He was thinking about something else.
According to the concept of "Four Dhyanas and Eight Samadhis," the meditative practice of sorcerers can be roughly divided into four stages.
Step 1: The joy of detachment.
This is the introductory stage of meditation.
Through methods such as meditation, one can begin to temporarily let go of chaotic thoughts, material desires, and emotional fluctuations, and experience the ease and joy brought about by the initial stability of body and mind.
Step Two: Cultivate Joy and Happiness.
With a more stable state of mind, external disturbances can hardly shake the inner peace, and in this deeper stability, one can feel a deeper joy.
This can be understood as a progression from "not being distracted" to "not wanting to be distracted".
Step 3: Separate from joy and bliss.
This stage is known by most people as the "gateway to hell" for sorcerers.
In this state, practitioners experience a "wonderful bliss" that transcends the senses and arises from pure spirit, believing that they can "achieve their desires" in the spiritual world.
Many sorcerers, such as those from the Wudang sect in the original work, became so addicted to this illusion that they were unable to extricate themselves and were ultimately trapped in the "inner vision" for the rest of their lives.
Step 4: Let go of thoughts and purify the mind.
It represents the perfection of the virtue of "stillness".
The perfect state of meditation is called "a state of detachment and purity" or "emptiness without emptiness".
Practitioners must not only eliminate worldly distractions, but also relinquish the joy that "purity" itself brings, entering a truly selfless and absolutely empty state of mind.
This is considered the highest level of meditative cultivation.
According to his father, Zhuge Duan, the practice of Samadhi Fire requires an extremely still state of concentration, while "Xuanji" is essentially pushing the brain to an extremely active, overclocked state.
This is why his progress in meditation over the years has not been ideal.
So many years have passed, and Zhuge Yan's level of meditation has only remained at the second step—the state of meditative joy.
One side is extremely still, and the other side is extremely dynamic.
How can these two things coexist in the same person's body?
Unless his meditative state was not achieved in stillness, but in overclocking.
Like the eye of a storm, the center of the storm is still.
"If you cultivate with greed for the power of the Samadhi True Fire, you will die!"
Zhuge Duan's voice brought him back to reality.
"Even if you think you're gifted and will definitely succeed, you'll still die!"
If you still have any deep-seated obsessions you can't let go of, you will still die!
After hearing these words, Zhuge Yan couldn't help but twitch the corners of his mouth.
No, to me it's a death sentence no matter what, aren't you just ruining your son's life?
Seeing that Zhuge Yan had fallen silent, Zhuge Duan spoke again:
"If you're scared, you can choose to give up."
Even without the Samadhi True Fire, with the talent you've shown in Qimen Dunjia divination, you'll be more than capable of making a living in this turbulent world.
Should we give up?
A moment of hesitation flashed through Zhuge Yan's mind.
If what my father said is true, the mortality rate of practicing this Samadhi Fire is probably very high.
Although it's not like the Dan Shi technique of the Tang Sect, where failure means certain death, there's still a high risk of dying on the spot.
After a brief moment of contemplation, Zhuge Yan had already made his decision.
It wasn't for Zhuge Duan's expectations, nor for the glory of the Wuhou faction; it was simply that he didn't want to stop there.
"Father, I will inherit the Samadhi Fire."
