Chapter 32 The Coward
Chapter 32 The Coward
Ventara's feelings are complicated right now.
She had just escaped from her room, which was now a mess, and there was someone she didn't want to see for the time being.
Seeing her listless appearance, Head Nurse Hisewen considerately poured her a glass of water: "It's rare to see you in the infirmary. What's wrong today? Are you not feeling well?"
Ventara appreciated her concern, if only she had kept quiet after saying that and hadn't said anything more.
"Were you with the Duke before you came here? You smell strongly of him." Siegwen looked at her curiously.
Coming here was definitely a mistake.
Ventara thought.
She's known for her keen sense of smell for a long time, so why would she deliberately come here to cause trouble?
That's what she said, but the reason she came here was because it was the quietest place in the entire Mello Petersburg. After all, in her current situation, she really couldn't wander around outside and needed to find a place to rest properly.
Feeling the soreness in her lower back, Ventara took an uncomfortably sip of water.
She's never been a talkative person, and after working together for so long, Siegwen has gotten used to her only becoming more talkative when she's with the Duke. But I heard it's because they've known each other since they were children, which makes sense.
Speak of the devil, and he appears; she was just thinking about the Duke when a familiar voice came from outside the door.
"So you're here, Ventara." The tall man walked in from outside and then sat down next to Ventara quite naturally, completely ignoring her frozen expression.
"Duke, what brings you here?"
Generally, Leosley would stay in his comfortable office and would almost never venture into the medical room.
Leosley shrugged and smiled, "My assistants are all here with you, of course I had to come and see them."
Siegwen's nose twitched slightly as she sniffed, and she also detected a strong scent of Ventura on him.
So the two of them were together before...
She became curious, but before gossiping, she wanted to do something else.
"Duke, would you like to try my newly developed milkshake? I guarantee you'll love it this time!"
The head nurse, who was dedicated to providing nutrition to the leader of Mero Petersburg, looked on with anticipation, fearing another rejection.
After all, Melusin's sense of taste is very different from that of humans. Even though she knew that these milkshakes were rich in nutrients, Leosley rarely accepted her kindness because of their strange taste.
But this time—
After glancing at the guy next to him who hadn't paid any attention to him since the beginning, Leosley unusually agreed.
Overjoyed by her unexpected surprise, Siegfried immediately darted to another corner of the infirmary to start preparing her milkshake on the spot.
Having gotten rid of her, Leosley immediately set his sights on Ventara.
Higewen was always very focused on what she was doing, and it seemed she wouldn't notice them, so he spoke without any hesitation: "How did you get here?"
In the past, Ventara would have retorted long ago, but today she simply had no interest in arguing with him and just wanted to find an excuse to leave as soon as possible.
She was back before she could come up with a plausible excuse.
She served up the milkshake she had carefully prepared.
It's an upgraded version, so it's naturally different from the previous milkshakes. Specifically, well, just looking at it is enough to make people feel intimidated.
Leosley looked at the beautiful ceramic cup that had been placed in his hand, then at Siegfried, who was smiling sweetly with her head tilted back, and suddenly fell silent.
Ventara watched this scene with schadenfreude.
One reason she chose to come to the infirmary was that she thought Leosley would give up coming here to find her because he was worried about the power of Siegfried's milkshake. Although he did come in the end, it was still quite nice to see him get his comeuppance.
Since it was his own words, Leosley hesitated but still chose to drink it. However, he didn't miss the undisguised look in someone's eyes, and as soon as he put down the cup, he chose to shift the blame.
Even as the strange taste exploded in his mouth, his expression remained unchanged, and he nodded in a perfunctory manner: "This time it tastes good."
Higewen's eyes lit up.
"Speaking of which, Ventara, you came to the infirmary because you weren't feeling well, right?" Leosley tapped his index finger on the table, looking like he was plotting something with ill intent. "Head Nurse, perhaps you could give this poor lady a nutritional milkshake as well."
Higewen immediately looked at Ventara with concern.
Upon closer inspection, some details became apparent, such as someone constantly rubbing their lower back, lips that appeared somewhat swollen as if due to internal heat, and the occasional shifting of posture as if their legs were uncomfortable.
Granville, the supervisor of the production area in Mello Petersburg, was on sick leave some time ago, and Ventara filled in for him for a while. Perhaps that's why he got so tired.
Higewen couldn't understand it, but that didn't stop her from preparing nutritional shakes for Ventara.
Although Ventara didn't like it, she couldn't compromise on matters of health!
Little Melusin's eyes held a great determination as she stared intently at her as she handed her the milkshake, as if afraid she would refuse again.
Ventara's expression wasn't good, and Leosley was adding fuel to the fire by saying, "This is the head nurse's kind gesture, Ventara. For your health's sake, you should just accept it."
Ventara wondered if she had been too kind today, which was why he was making such a fuss!
She slammed her hand on the table and stood up abruptly. Under Hisewen's tense gaze, she picked up the glass and drank it down in one gulp.
Leosley: Huh?
The black-haired girl had a sour face, but her tone was still relatively gentle: "Head Nurse, I've finished my milkshake, so I'll be leaving now."
Siegwen nodded blankly, and the next second she saw Ventara unceremoniously grab Leosley by the tie and drag him out.
She sat in the chair, happily swinging her little feet: "Hehe, I told you my milkshake worked!"
After drinking it, Ventara immediately regained her energy!
In fact, it's all an illusion.
Even though her discomfort constantly told her that she shouldn't be doing such strenuous exercise, Ventara still strode confidently to a secluded, enclosed pipe entrance. Then, she leaned against the wall, her legs almost giving way, her green eyes hidden in the darkness cold and unfriendly, not at all like she was facing her boss.
"Don't you know best why I'm not feeling well?"
Leosley raised an eyebrow and smiled: "I thought you were planning to pretend to have amnesia and stay a coward forever—"
