Chapter 34 Where does this mucus come from?
Chapter 34 Where does this mucus come from?
Su Lan reassured Tia from both sides, finally getting her to give up the idea of drilling a hole in the shell. She also told Bemira that they would go check out the accommodations before going to sleep.
After a long and arduous journey, it emerged from the outlet of Changning Fjord.
"From now on, you'll be here. There are mountains and water, and it's very quiet. How about that?" Su Lan tapped the shell.
"Are we there yet? Let me see!"
The seashell opened, and Bemira poked half of her body out. It was the first time Su Lan had seen what she looked like.
She had long, flowing blue hair and was a little smaller than Tia.
Her skin shimmered with a pearly glow, and her large, watery eyes were squinted, as if they were being stung by the sunlight.
Bemira looked around, the fan-shaped seashell hanging from her ear swaying back and forth: "It's so quiet, that's good. Mr. Blanket really didn't lie to me!"
"Just call me Su Lan." Su Lan looked at Bemira, who was still wrapped in a small blanket, with a helpless expression.
"You don't have to keep doing this... Never mind, whatever."
He thought it would be more appropriate to call Bemira "Miss Blanket".
Su Lan transported Bemira to a small bay with just the right depth.
Bemira couldn't wait any longer, and with a flip, she rolled into the water, bubbling with pleasure.
Without Su Lan even needing to say anything, the mist appeared on its own and soon enveloped the entire Changning Fjord.
Su Lan had already passed the friendly forces certification, so she wasn't greatly affected this time.
The first step in port construction was so easy—the fog of war was deployed!
Su Lan felt incredibly safe and was in a great mood.
What surprised him even more was that his last wish was also fulfilled at the same time.
This time, "Adventurer Su Lan" didn't say anything witty, but just made some speculations about whether there might be life in the mist and the big treasure.
This news is of little use to Su Lan, since he's already brought the person home, body and all. He can figure out what use they can be later.
However, another piece of news made Su Lan wary:
Many alien realms have descended upon the kingdom simultaneously, and the knightly orders of various lords have begun to assemble, suggesting that something significant is about to happen.
This matches Su Lan's prediction.
The Moon Goddess Church has begun its operations, and the inland areas are likely to descend into chaos!
However, Su Lan's area is a remote region, and the flames of war should not reach here for the time being.
He planned to focus on his own business first, and take advantage of the chaos to build the port, so that he would have a way out when the time came.
Just do it!
"Tia, go and dig the foundation according to the shape of Villand's harbor. Don't use soil; use earth magic to bring over the large rocks and cut them open!"
"Okay!" Tia agreed, then asked curiously, "But why did you bring stones along?"
Su Lan turned her gaze to Bemira: "You shouldn't mind the stone, right? Don't worry, I'll mix it with sweet soup for you, I guarantee it'll taste great!"
He reasoned that pearls from mollusks are formed by encasing foreign objects, and since Bemira is an evolved form of mollusks, it makes perfect sense that she could produce balls by eating stones!
As for where the dough came from...
Su Lan didn't intend to think too much about it.
"Me?" Bemira poked her head out from the gap, pointed at herself, and blinked blankly. "I can eat it, I usually eat this husk, but... do I have to work too?"
"Of course! Once the port is recovered, your living conditions will be even better, won't they? Don't worry, no other 'people' will bother you!"
Su Lan took a pot out of the hovercart, poured in some calming sweet soup, and after thinking for a moment, added a few spoonfuls of sugar.
Tia had already returned with a basket of pebbles. Su Lan flipped through them briefly and felt that the pebbles were a bit too large and difficult to digest.
So he used what was available, grabbing three handfuls of sand and throwing them into the pot, then adding seven handfuls of pebbles.
Standard sand-gravel ratio!
Stir, stir, the concentration is just right!
"Please use this!" Su Lan handed the pot to Bemira.
Bemira felt something was off, but she accepted it anyway.
The shell lid closed, and the sound of bubbling rice coming from inside could be heard.
After a moment, the iron pot was pushed out, along with Bemira's comment: "The stones aren't tasty, but the consistency is alright; the flavor comes entirely from the broth."
Su Lan looked down and saw that there were several soft, translucent dumplings in the pot, with a layer of milky white slurry on them.
He took one out to examine it; it felt smooth to the touch, with a stringy texture, and a fresh sea scent wafted into his nostrils at the same time…
Su Lan felt something was off, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
His serious lord mindset prevented him from thinking it through further, but he made up his mind that from now on, only he and the monster girl could use this thing, and no other men could touch it.
I found a basin, added seawater, and the dough quickly dissolved, turning the seawater a bright white.
"Tia, come get the glue!" Su Lan called out.
Tia emerged from underground, her nose twitching. "It's here! Is this the one? It smells just like my scent from the flowerbed the other day..."
Her words abruptly stopped, and as if she had thought of something, her round ears suddenly turned red. She scooped up the basin and darted back into the ground with a "whoosh."
"I haven't finished!" Su Lan quickly instructed, "This adhesive is quite sticky, so apply only a small amount, just enough to stick to the foundation!"
"Got it!" Tia nimbly crawled deep inside.
A moment later, her exclamation came from underground: "It's so hard! And it's waterproof!"
Tia was in charge of digging and plastering, Su Lan was in charge of adding ingredients and mixing, and Bemira was in charge of eating and spitting out.
One person plus two, and they were busy all day long.
Actually, Tia and Su Lan wanted to continue working that night, but Bemira had already gone on strike. She slumped out of the seashell, looking like she had burned out completely.
"I...I can't eat anymore...and I can't...I just want to sleep..."
"Okay, okay, rest." Su Lan patted her shell and pulled Tia to sit down next to her.
After a day's work, the port has begun to take shape.
The underwater foundation, which would normally require hundreds of workers to build over six months, was completed in just one day with the cooperation of the three men.
The entire port area and the dock foundation are seamlessly integrated.
Ordinary pebbles and sand, when coated with Bemira's "dough glue," surprisingly shimmered with a faint glow, as lustrous as white jade.
"Is this the result of our hard work?" Tia exclaimed, nudging Bemira's arm.
"Bermira, look how well I've fixed your house!"
"Ah~ Straight lines, not bad at all?" Bemira struggled to lift her head. "They won't be expanding again tomorrow, will they? Let me rest for a day..."
"Not for now," Su Lan shook her head.
"I'll arrange for craftsmen to come here and do the decorations tomorrow. I've prepared earplugs for you, so you can sleep peacefully. Just make sure the fog doesn't harm them."
"That's very noisy..." Bemira said, a little annoyed, but before she could finish speaking, Tia plugged her ears.
"It's not noisy, you can try it. My furry friend is very soundproof. I'll give you a set."
"What did you say?" Bemira didn't hear her clearly: "This thing is useful! What kind of fluff ball is it?"
Tia raised her tail: "I use these that fell from here to plug my ears. They're all-natural, high-quality soundproofing material!"
"Give me a pair too!" Su Lan suddenly interjected.
