Chapter 81 Gandalf's Wand

Chapter 81 Gandalf's Wand

At Beorn's invitation, the group stayed an extra day.

While that was happening, Duy also began to work on Gandalf's wand.

The grapevine wood for the cane has already been carved, and the only missing piece, the core, has now been found. In addition, other materials such as resin and lacquer have also been prepared.

Under Gandalf's expectant gaze, Duy carefully processed the eagle king's tail feather, then used tweezers to gently and evenly place it into the hollow hole in the vine. He then poured resin into the hole, allowing the core and the staff to completely fuse together.

Finally, it is polished and ancient magic runes are engraved on the end... At this point, a complete magic wand is fully formed.

As the midnight moon reached its zenith, Duy waved his wand, chanting a complex and lengthy mysterious incantation. Moonlight, like a silvery mist, gathered from the tip of the wand and entered it, fully waking it.

Feeling as if the wand in his hand had come to life, Dui smiled with satisfaction.

He handed the wand to Gandalf, who was already eager to get started.

"Twelve inches long, with a vinewood shaft, it is suitable for wizards with lofty aspirations, unassuming nature, and extraordinary foresight; while the eagle king's tail feathers as the core make the wand's spellcasting speed extremely fast, making it very suitable for casting various offensive or powerful spells, and it also has a high degree of loyalty to its master."

"Gandalf, you give it a try," Duy urged.

This was the first time he had made a wand for someone else, and he was very much looking forward to it.

Gandalf took the wand, held it in his hand, and his face was also full of anticipation.

With a gentle wave, he unleashed his most proficient Light Magic.

In an instant, the tip of the wand flashed with dazzling light, illuminating Gandalf's smiling face.

"What a wonderful feeling! It's as if my arms have extended, making casting spells so much easier and more effortless!"

Upon seeing this, Dui felt a surge of pleasant satisfaction.

He now understood Ollivander's feelings somewhat. Seeing the wand he made find a suitable owner always brings a sense of psychological satisfaction and recognition.

"This wand was made in a bit of a rush. You can use it for now, and I'll make you a better one when I have the chance later."

Duy wasn't particularly satisfied with the finished wand, and assured Gandalf.

According to his wand-maker's eye, while the eagle king's tail feathers were usable, they weren't the most suitable for Gandalf. Even the grapevine wood staff was just made from a very ordinary branch of Hoorn. So this wand could only be considered passable.

Duy thought that once he found a better magical tree, such as the White Tree, a descendant of the Two Trees, or the Mauron Tree, he could try to make another wand for Gandalf.

As for the staff core, if you're strong enough, you could even consider the Balrog from the Moria Mines.

After all, they are both fire-elemental and future mortal enemies; perhaps they really are destined wand cores.

Gandalf didn't have that many needs; he played with the wand in his hand, quite fond of it.

He shook his head happily: "No need for that, Duir, this wand is perfectly fine!"

As he spoke, he waved his wand, unleashing gusts of wind, flames, light, lightning, and so on.

The more he played with it, the brighter his eyes became. He said in a low voice, barely audible to the two of them, "Thank you, Duir. I can feel that as long as I use this wand to cast spells, the restraints on my body are much lighter."

Dui understood Gandalf's words, and his eyes widened in disbelief: "Are you sure, Gandalf?"

You should know that Gandalf is restricted by the Valar, so he cannot use magic too much.

But now that you're using a wand you made yourself, there's no such restriction?

Are the wands he makes really that magical?

"It's true." Gandalf nodded with a smile.

"While powerful magic cannot be cast, some ordinary magic is no longer restricted."

"Congratulations, Gandalf," Dui said sincerely after confirming the news.

He was really looking forward to seeing Gandalf in the future, wielding a magic wand in one hand and a sword in the other.

After completing Gandalf's wand,

After obtaining Beon's permission, Dui used magic to connect his fireplace to the Floo Network and gifted him a small bag of Floo Powder, inviting him to visit Windrise Peak in the future.

Beoron was amazed by Floo Powder's abilities and readily accepted Dui's invitation.

The group did not linger there and set off again after breakfast the next day.

When they parted, Beon lent them horses, which would take them to the edge of the Dark Forest.

Furthermore, Gandalf was given some bad news: an Orc army was gathering in the vicinity of Dorgod, at the southern end of Mirkwood, and there were even signs of Ringwraiths.

Upon hearing this news, Gandalf's expression turned solemn, and he remained silent.

The group bid farewell to Beorn, rode their horses across the wilderness, and arrived at the edge of the dark forest.

Gandalf suddenly announced that he was going somewhere else and would have to part ways with them temporarily.

Everyone was shocked and confused upon hearing this.

Thorin frowned even more, and his attitude turned cold again.

In his eyes, nothing was more important than reaching the Lonely Mountain, and Gandalf's actions were a betrayal to him.

Duy wasn't surprised, after all, Gandalf had mentioned this possibility to him when they set off, and with the information provided by Darrigus and Beorn, it was surprising that they were leaving now.

After all, Gandalf's purpose in organizing the expedition was to prevent the dragon Smaug and the Orc alliance from affecting the situation in Middle-earth.

The orcs are now gathering in Dorgon, and even the Ringwraiths have appeared there, making the situation far more serious than that of the Lonely Mountain.

Therefore, he had to go to Dorgudu to find out the truth.

Dui hesitated, wondering whether he should tell Gandalf directly that Sauron was there and had even regained his strength.

He vividly remembered that Gandalf had been imprisoned and tortured by Sauron in Dorgus after his journey there, only to be rescued by members of the Righteous Order.

"Gandalf, have you considered that this might be a trap?" Dui hesitated before reminding him, "The orcs are gathering in Dorgon, and the Ringwraiths are lurking there. Their master might very well be hiding there."

"The enemy has a large and powerful force. If you go alone, you'll likely get stuck there."

"Thank you for reminding me, Duir," Gandalf said solemnly.

"It's precisely because it's likely a trap that I need to go there. If it's proven that the necromancer is Sauron, it will alert the various forces in Middle-earth, allowing them to unite once again to prevent the resurgence of dark forces!"

Then, changing the subject, he winked at Dui.

"So I'd like to invite you to come with me to Dorgon."

"I believe that with the two of us working together, even if we are outmatched, we can safely retreat from there."

"What! I'm going with you?"

Dui's eyes widened, wondering if he had misheard.
