Chapter 528 Ripples and the Truth
Illusion and Dark Raven were silent for a moment before changing the subject.
"By the way, you mentioned encountering a level seven wizard? What happened?" The illusory tone regained its usual calm. "Wasn't that level seven wizard we've been monitoring?"
The raven sighed, and the black fluid at the severed limb drooped listlessly.
"The ones I encountered were the ones that weren't being monitored."
His ethereal gaze suddenly sharpened.
"You mean—those guys who disappeared from the start of the war and have been laying out their trump cards?" His speech quickened. "Wait, I remember your defense zone is in our rear area, right? Could it be—"
Dark Raven nodded, then shook his head.
"It was definitely those people," he said. "But I was lucky; I only encountered one person. Otherwise, I wouldn't have made it back alive."
"one person----"
Xu Huan lowered his eyes and unconsciously tapped his index finger on his sleeve.
A moment later, he raised his eyes, a look of understanding flashing in his dark red pupils: "I see."
Seeing this, Dark Raven grinned: "Others who heard this information also came to the same conclusion as you." He paused, "Actually, it's not hard to guess."
Noren Workshop only has a few technologies that they can use as their trump card. Now that they've dispersed their manpower, it's quite obvious what they're planning.
The illusion nodded: "Then our plan has probably been exposed."
According to intelligence, at least two of the missing level seven wizards from Norren Workshop were specialists in soul studies.
With a soul-type wizard of this caliber roaming freely in the enemy's rear, it would be utterly self-deception to say that they couldn't find the locations where their own trump cards were deployed.
Dark Raven shrugged, his mutilated shoulder causing the black fluid to ripple.
"So what if it's exposed? We're a little short on the prepared amount, but it's enough if we really want to use it now." His tone was relaxed, with the composure of a veteran. "Just because you reveal your trump card early doesn't mean it's useless."
Unreal nodded and didn't continue the topic.
He glanced at Dark Raven's still slowly regenerating severed limb, said briefly, "Take good care of yourself," and then turned and walked out of the treatment room.
He needs to go to the command center.
At the very least, the mental energy fluctuations belonging to Jemin that were analyzed during the battle should be entered into the camp's enemy intelligence database.
Then make sure that all your level 5 kids who are still active outside get a copy.
Make them—avoid that monster as much as possible.
Watching the illusory figure disappear behind the automatic door, Dark Raven lay back down in the treatment pod.
The silence that had lasted for so long in the treatment room was finally broken by an uncontrollable gasp as the treatment pod's door closed.
The other level-five wizards in the treatment room exchanged glances, all seeing the shock that flashed in each other's eyes.
The exchange between the Illusion and the Dark Raven revealed a lot of information, but the information that followed was a matter for important figures and had nothing to do with them.
But the intelligence ahead—
The first to speak was a level 5 wizard near the door.
He lay in a semi-enclosed treatment pod, half of his body covered in regeneration gel, but the eye that was sticking out was wide open, bigger than a copper bell.
"Did I hear that right?—" His voice was hoarse, tinged with the disorientation of someone struck by lightning, "Lord Illusion—was thrown into a nutrient tank by a level five wizard?"
A bandaged head popped out of another treatment pod nearby, its voice urgent: "He said 'defeat.' Defeat! Not escape, not maneuver! Defeat head-on!"
"That Level 5—is he the one who killed the Hand of Annihilation?"
"Who else could it be!"
"Oh My God----"
Whispers like these spread rapidly through the treatment room like a plague.
Those level-five wounded who had been too afraid to speak out due to the presence of high-ranking wizards could no longer contain their shock and exchanged various glances with their familiar colleagues.
There was fear, disbelief, and an indescribable complexity in his eyes.
They are level five wizards.
They knew all too well what the sixth-level title of Wizard meant.
That was someone they needed to look up to, someone they needed to team up to annihilate, someone they needed to pray they would never encounter.
Now, someone is telling them that a level 5 wizard has defeated two such beings in succession.
It wasn't about maneuvering, nor was it about running for one's life.
It means to defeat.
It's like dropping a bomb into a still pond, creating huge ripples.
"There's a monster like that at Norren's Workshop—"
Someone whispered something.
No one refuted.
Because that's the most accurate description—monster.
Some people couldn't wait to take out their MagicNet terminals and share the news with their companions.
The ripple then spread rapidly.
From the treatment room to the camp corridor.
From level-five wounded soldiers to colleagues who came to visit.
From the logistics wizards responsible for registering battle damage to the combat personnel about to be rotated to the front lines.
The news that "a level 5 wizard from Norren Workshop has defeated two of our level 6 wizards in succession" spread like a silent gust of wind among the low-level wizards in the Tower of Annihilation.
Accompanying this is a subtle, indescribable shift in mindset.
It was a complex emotion mixed with fear, vigilance, and a kind of admiration that they themselves were unwilling to admit.
At this moment, at the center of this storm, is the young man known as the "monster".
Far from the battlefield, in another void, they were speeding towards their camp with their companions.
Just as Jemin and Black passed through the defensive barrier surrounding the camp, their personal terminals simultaneously vibrated.
Jemin glanced down and saw it was a communication request from Viola.
"Go and rest first," he said briefly to Blake.
The latter nodded knowingly, his figure quickly blending into the shadows of the camp, and stealthily heading towards the exclusive resting area for soul-type wizards.
Jemin then turned around, quickly crossed the main road of the camp, and headed straight for the central command room.
Outside the command room, that familiar silver-gray figure was already waiting at the door.
Viola leaned against the metal pillar by the door, arms crossed, her silver-gray eyes narrowing slightly the moment she saw Jemin, a faint, ambiguous smile playing on her lips.
His gaze swept over Jemin several times, from top to bottom and then from bottom to top, as if he were examining some rare object.
"Tsk." She finally let out a soft, ambiguous click of her tongue. "You're back alive, junior."
As Jemin approached, he was already immune to her sarcastic greeting and simply nodded: "Good luck."
"Luck?" Viola raised an eyebrow. "You call that luck? You repelled another level six wizard?"
Jemin paused and looked at her.
Viola waved her hand: "Don't look at me like that. Blake submitted the battle report on you and him as soon as he returned. Although he didn't submit the specific details, the record of 'encountering a level six wizard and successfully evacuating' is already surprising enough."
Jemin didn't dwell on the topic, instead asking, "You said there was an emergency?"
"Let's go inside and talk." Viola turned around, pushed open the side door of the command room, and gestured for Jemin to follow. "But they're still having a meeting inside, so we'll have to wait a bit."
The two stopped in the corridor outside the side door. Viola leaned against the wall, and Jemin stood opposite her.
"I have some big news for you." Viola lowered her voice, but the barely suppressed excitement in her tone betrayed her. "We've found their trump card."
Jemin's pupils contracted slightly: "Found them? The Chaos Cult and the Tower of Annihilation? You found them both?"
"Yes, we found both." Viola nodded. "While you were out on your mission, the two level seven soul wizards from the workshop were dispatched. They conducted a full-area simulation based on the intelligence gathered by all the reconnaissance teams at the front, eliminating all low-probability areas, and then personally infiltrated to verify the coordinates that were most likely."
"And then—you found it?"
"And then, we found it." Viola shrugged. "Precision targeting, one hit. I must say, when it comes to finding things, those old guys in the Soul System are definitely professionals."
A surge of indescribable excitement welled up inside Jemin.
What does this mean?
This means they can destroy the enemy's trump card in advance, and it means that Norren Workshop may have a decisive advantage in this war!
"That's great!" he blurted out. "Now that we've found it, why not destroy it immediately?"
Viola's expression, however, was not as joyful as he had imagined.
She shook her head, a hint of helplessness flashing in her silver-gray eyes: "That's the problem—we discovered it, but we couldn't stop it."
Jemin was stunned.
"What do you mean?" He frowned. "We discovered their trump card, but couldn't stop them? Is it that we don't have enough troops? Or are their defenses too tight?"
"None of those are true." Viola sighed. "You'll understand the specific reason when you see the intelligence later. You might not feel it if I tell you now, so you should see it for yourself."
Jemin wanted to ask more questions, but Viola raised her hand to stop him, turning her gaze to the tightly closed metal door at the end of the corridor.
"The meeting is almost over."
Sure enough, not long after, the metal door to the command room opened from the inside.
One after another, level seven wizards filed out.
Their expressions varied; some had furrowed brows, some looked solemn, and some seemed lost in thought.
Everyone who passed by Jieming would subconsciously glance at him—their gaze containing scrutiny, curiosity, and a complex mix of emotions that were hard to define.
Jemin felt a little uncomfortable being stared at, but he maintained a calm expression.
Finally, Clark's grey figure appeared at the doorway.
His gaze bypassed Viola and landed directly on Jemin. Something seemed to flicker slightly in those usually calm and collected eyes.
"Come in," Clark said succinctly, stepping aside to make way.
Viola gave Jemin a "let's go" look, and the two of them stepped into the command room one after the other.
