Chapter 751 The Last Apostle
Chapter 751 The Last Apostle
The dimensional barrier, like a light blue veil, separates the two worlds inside and outside the dimensional plane.
It does not obstruct the passage of light, but it filters out all kinds of unknown fluctuations from the outside world, and gently "reduces" those forms of existence that are beyond the scope of understanding of this plane into images that can be accepted by the naked eye.
Therefore, when the beings inside the plane looked up, they did not see two clear individuals, but two enormous figures that were distorted and magnified by the barrier.
The two figures hovered outside the barrier, their outlines blurred by the refraction of light.
But it is precisely this ambiguity that pushes the fear to an even deeper level.
Facial features and expressions were indistinct; only two enormous shadows, almost obscuring half the sky, could be seen.
It was as if two giants were bending down, bringing their faces close to a transparent glass jar, scrutinizing everything tiny inside with an incomprehensible gaze. That gaze pierced through the barrier, pressing heavily on the shoulders of every creature that looked up.
That wasn't some kind of oppressive aura; it was simply the undisguised presence of a higher-level life form.
Barriers can filter out fluctuations in the laws of nature, but they cannot completely block this fundamental crushing force, just as a thin veil cannot block the sun's heat. In the hilly depressions, the plant-people who were collecting life energy on the ridges were the first to feel this oppression.
Such a situation was not recorded in their memories or history, but the instincts etched deep in the genes of every living being screamed wildly at this moment.
Above them, something is watching them!
Almost simultaneously, hundreds of people in a vegetative state stopped what they were doing.
The tiny flowers on their heads closed at the same moment, their petals tightly folding into a ball.
This is a stress response of their species; when faced with irresistible danger, they will instinctively shut down all sensory organs.
Their slender vines lay prostrate in the soil, their tails emerging from the earth and coiling around their sides, as if curling themselves up in a ball, waiting for the storm to sweep over them.
On the rocks high in the field, the two octopus-faced guards and their companion who had just arrived to deliver the message also froze at the same time.
The octopus-faced creature that had removed its helmet was standing with its mouth open. The tentacles hanging from its mouth had maintained the lazy posture it had when it was speaking, but now they had all stiffened, as if frozen by the cold air, and were suspended motionless in mid-air.
The one wearing the helmet maintained the posture of crossing his arms, but his fingers unconsciously tightened, his knuckles digging hard into the edge of the arm armor, pressing several tiny dents into the alloy surface.
As for the octopus-faced messenger who came to deliver the message, the tentacles under his tilted helmet were now even more violently flared, each one trembling at a different frequency, as if something invisible was gripping his nerves tightly.
Just then, the three of them simultaneously received a piercing emergency alarm on their communicators.
The sound was sharp and short, like someone shattering a piece of glass right next to your ear.
But thanks to the emergency alarm, the three were brought back from their fear.
The octopus-faced figure wearing a helmet was the first to react, his stiff fingers laboriously pressing the communication button.
The next moment, the technician's almost out-of-control voice came through the communicator.
The other party was clearly trying desperately to remain calm, but their breathing was completely erratic, and every word seemed to be forced out from their violently pounding throats: "Two hostile units detected outside the dimensional barrier. According to energy spectrum analysis, the enemies are End Apostles! Repeat, End Apostles! All personnel, enter combat readiness and prepare for battle at any time!!!"
The apostles of the end times.
These four words, like an icicle, pierced fiercely from the communicator, instantly draining the color from the faces of every octopus present.
The tentacles of the octopus-faced man who took off his helmet instantly turned from stiff to gray.
The mucous membranes on the surface of the whiskers lost all their luster due to excessive fear, looking like a layer of dried frost.
It opened its mouth, as if trying to repeat something silently, but no sound came out of its throat.
The one wearing the helmet suddenly raised his head, staring intently at the sky.
The focus of his helmet visor was frantically adjusting automatically, trying to lock onto the two enormous shadows that blocked out half the sky, but he was shaking so badly that he could barely maintain the posture of crossing his arms.
Upon hearing the final order to prepare for battle, the three octopus-faced creatures turned around almost simultaneously, their armored boots leaving deep scratches on the rocks as they charged madly toward the medium-sized transport ship anchored at the edge of the depression.
One of them flew too fast and its shoulder crashed heavily into the trunk of a towering ancient tree, snapping the thick trunk in half.
But it didn't even turn its head; it just subconsciously increased its speed again.
Their disheveled appearance made them look less like soldiers rushing to their posts and more like they were fleeing for their lives.
The plant beings peeked through the gaps in the curled vines and then saw a scene they had never seen before.
In the sky, those metallic constructs that normally cruised slowly at high altitudes were now swarming about like insects whose nests had been disturbed. Hundreds and thousands of warships set sail, their numbers enough to obscure the pale purple light of the sky.
The energy coating on the warship's hull reflected a metallic sheen under starlight, and the roar of the engines generated when the fleet assembled made the ground tremble slightly.
Each warship was surrounded by a large number of octopus-men clad in armor, whose jets of flame from the nozzles of their armor intertwined in the sky to form a dense net of light.
Under the shocked gaze of all the vegetative state patients on this seat, the entire military force of the octopus people was simultaneously taking off.
The warship formation was divided into several echelons.
The intercepting fleet at the forefront had already formed a defensive formation below the dimensional barrier, while the heavy gunboats behind them began to uniformly turn their cannons, aiming all their firepower at the location of the two huge dark shadows above the barrier.
Tens of thousands of octopus-man warriors surrounded their respective warships, all their energy weapons activated, and the shield generators on their armor emitted a series of charging hums, like a thundercloud gathering its strength.
Inside the command center of the flagship "Iron Curtain," the atmosphere was extremely oppressive.
The octopus-man leader stood before the command post, one hand supporting himself on the cold metal surface, the other clenched into a fist and hanging at his side.
The giant light screen in front of him was displaying real-time images of the probes outside the dimensional barrier.
Even after the image has undergone multiple filters and algorithmic enhancements through the dimensional barrier, it can still only barely outline two blurry contours.
The detection system is frantically analyzing the opponent's energy fluctuations. The dense data on the right side of the screen is constantly refreshing, most of which are glaring red and unrecognizable markers, while a small portion are barely generated yellow speculative items.
"Barrier permeability...cannot be measured!"
"The frequency range of the law fluctuations... exceeds the database comparison range!"
"Target one energy level... Level 6! Target two energy level... Level 5!"
The whiskers on the commander's face were taut and straight.
His gaze was fixed on the smaller of the two shadows at the top of the screen, trying to glean some useful information from that blurry outline.
A sliver of hope remained in his heart.
If the opponent is only level five, then perhaps their strength is not invincible...
But the observer's warning shattered that last bit of hope the next second.
"Report! Target 2 is rapidly increasing in volume!"
The commander's pupils suddenly contracted.
At the top of the screen, the smaller, darker shadow that had been motionless suddenly moved.
In the enhanced images from the detection system, the figure was expanding at a visible speed.
Within seconds, all the data frames turned red.
The volume of Target 2 is growing exponentially.
The surrounding spatial structure began to distort as it could not withstand the unfolding power of this level. The dimensional barrier emitted a low-frequency hum under its shadow, and the sky-blue light patterns flowing on its surface flickered wildly.
The figure had already raised its arm.
With his five fingers clenched tightly, he looked as if he was about to smash down.
The commander's hand, which was resting on the command post, tightened suddenly, leaving a clear fingerprint on the cold metal surface.
"Everyone..."
The commander's voice was terribly hoarse, but he still managed to shout it out.
"Prepare for battle!"
