Chapter 141 Little 8 Enters the Dream
Chapter 141 Little 8 Enters the Dream
Jiang Ye chuckled at Ma Shuai's words, saying noncommittally, "You big stars always have so many ideas!"
Hushan Forest Farm is about 50 kilometers away from the county seat. Because the road was not very good, we didn't arrive at the forest farm until almost 11 o'clock.
After arriving, we ate a quick bite and then went inside.
After driving for more than 20 kilometers along the mountain road, the car could no longer move.
After getting off the train, our group of more than ten people walked along a small train track.
"This railway track was built by the Japanese. We continued to use it after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Later, logging was prohibited, so the railway track was abandoned. In recent years, a nature reserve has been established, and coupled with the relics left by the Japanese, very few people come here!"
Grandpa Jiang introduced the topic as he walked.
After walking for more than half an hour in the mountains, a row of dilapidated wooden houses came into view.
"We used to live here when we were logging in the mountains. These houses are decades old. Now, only people who come to the mountains occasionally stop here for a while!" Grandpa Jiang said, pointing to the row of wooden houses.
After resting for ten minutes at the cabin, we continued into the woods.
After walking for more than two hours, stopping and starting, Grandpa Jiang pointed ahead and said, "If we walk for another half hour, we'll reach the area of the Japanese remnants. I don't know what we'll encounter then!"
He paused, then looked at Ma Shuai and said, "Old Ma, you're a nationally renowned comedy king, and a very wealthy man. I'll ask you one more time, are you really going to take this risk?"
"We're already here, we can't just go back, can we?"
Ma Shuai glanced at the part of the windbreaker close to his chest, where he had placed Lao Xian.
"My suggestion is to go ahead and take a look for today, but don't go any deeper. After that, go back to the cabin to rest for the night and come back tomorrow morning!" Grandpa Jiang added.
"Okay!" Ma Shuai looked up at the sky and nodded.
It's 3 p.m. now. Don't be fooled by the fact that it's only 3 p.m., but late October in Northeast China is already winter. Plus, it gets dark early in the mountains, so it's already quite dark.
After walking for half an hour, Grandpa Jiang stopped again, pointed ahead, and said, "See that row of logs over there? Go past that area, and walk for about twenty minutes further, and you'll reach the entrance to the Japanese ruins!"
The row of logs that Grandpa Jiang was pointing to was a pile of dozens of logs over forty meters away, most of which were already rotten.
Ma Shuai took out his binoculars and looked inside, as did the rest of us.
"I'm not used to this thing!"
Grandpa Jiang also got one. He muttered to himself as he imitated us, raising his binoculars to look.
"What is it?"
After watching for a while and not finding anything, just as I was about to put the binoculars down, a pointed head suddenly appeared from the pile of wood.
Its head is triangular with gray fur on top, making it look somewhat like a beaver. However, its face has very little fur and looks more like a human face.
The thing glanced at us from afar, then shrank back and disappeared.
"It's a human-faced rat!"
Master Jiang put down his binoculars and said with a dark face.
"A human-faced rat?" I asked.
"It's getting dark, let's talk as we walk!"
Grandpa Jiang didn't answer, but instead suggested that he go back to the wooden house to rest.
"good!"
Ma Shuai nodded.
"Back in the 1980s, some runners were bitten to death while hiking. When we found their bodies, besides most of the flesh being eaten, the most obvious feature was that their faces had been peeled off!"
Grandpa Jiang talked as he walked.
"Master Jiang, are you sure it was peeled off, and not bitten off?" I asked.
"It's not biting, it's ripping!"
Grandpa Jiang pointed to his jawline and said, "There are obvious scratches here. You can tell it was scratched open with claws and then torn off!"
"Later, the forest farm organized a hunting team, but after entering the mountains, the team not only failed to catch the man-eating beast, but was also ambushed and killed, and crippled!"
"According to the survivors, they were attacked by giant rats about the size of roe deer, and the leader of these giant rats had a human face on its face!"
"From then on, the term 'human-faced rat' came into being!"
"Wait a minute, the face I just saw didn't look like it was hung up," Fatty Lin questioned.
"At first, the human-faced rats that appeared simply had human faces hanging on them. But then, in the 1990s, things started to go wrong!"
Grandpa Jiang glanced back and said, "Some mountain runners say they've spotted human-faced rats again, but this time they're different. They don't have skin coverings; they actually have human faces!"
"Another difference from before is that although the human-faced rats still attack people, they rarely come out unless they enter the area of the Japanese remnants!"
"This thing has a sense of territory?" I muttered.
"It's hard to say!" Master Jiang shook his head.
By the time we got back to the cabin, it was already dark.
The cabin has a stove and an iron kettle; they're a bit old, but still usable.
After the stove was lit, the wooden house quickly warmed up.
After taking a quick bite, we lay down to rest.
I dozed off for who knows how long when someone nudged me. When I opened my eyes, I saw a girl who looked about ten years old standing in front of me. She had two little braids, a chubby, pink face, and a baby-faced look.
"Here, this is for you. It's a disinfectant. Dissolve it in water tomorrow so everyone can drink it!"
The little girl opened her chubby little hand, and in her palm was a pitch-black pill.
I looked at the pills, then at the little girl, and was a bit confused.
"Oh dear, it's me, Hachi! Why are you so dense!"
Seeing that I didn't react, the little girl stomped her foot in anger and punched me.
"Hachi?"
I opened my eyes wide.
"Yes, it's me!"
Xiao Ba shook her two little braids and nodded proudly.
"What's wrong with me?"
I looked at her, then at my surroundings. Everything was hazy and indistinct.
"How could you be so silly? I entered your dream!" Xiao Ba pouted and said.
"Enter my dream?" I asked.
"Sister Nizi has bugs on her body, so I can't enter her dream; Brother Pang also has guardians on him, so I can't enter his dream either!" Xiao Ba said seriously.
"Oh dear, I can't talk about it anymore, Grandpa Gray can't take it anymore!"
I was just about to ask how it got into my dream—I was clearly wearing a talisman—when Xiao Ba exclaimed and disappeared.
"Why?"
I shouted and woke up instantly.
I opened my eyes; it was just getting light. The fire in the stove was still burning, flickering intermittently.
I got up and found a pill in my hand that I didn't know had appeared at all.
I turned on my phone and looked at it by the light. The pill in my hand was exactly the same as the one Xiaoba gave me in my dream.
"Administering medicine in a dream!"
I murmured to myself as I looked at the pill.
