Chapter 136 The door was sealed.
Chapter 136 The door was sealed.
The moment the sallow-faced man uttered his shout, the enormous bear paw had already slammed down on the skinny man's head, less than three feet above his head.
The man with the sling on his left arm reacted extremely quickly. He stomped his right foot and lunged diagonally forward, his left shoulder slamming into the skinny man and pushing him aside. His right hand, carrying a burst of energy, slashed at the bear's paw with his knife.
The fierce blade collided with the bronze bear paw, sparks flying everywhere. The man groaned, unable to withstand the residual force of the impact, and was knocked back three or four steps, a trickle of blood spilling from the corner of his mouth.
Although he suffered a slight loss in the clash, his knife managed to stop the bear paw's downward momentum for a fleeting moment.
In that brief moment, the skinny man who had been thrown back to the ground had already gotten back up, picked up his knife, and charged forward with the sallow-faced man.
"Don't waste time with it! Hit its joints!" the sallow-faced man roared.
Before he could finish speaking, the lanky man had already rushed up behind the bear, stabbing his knife into the joint of its hind leg's knee. The tip of the knife got stuck in the gears, and with a twist, there were a few clicking sounds as pieces of bronze were sliced off by the blade. The leg immediately became sluggish.
The short, stocky man also pounced from the right. His knife had been chipped in several places by the impact, so he simply dropped it and drew two short-handled copper hammers from his waist, smashing them repeatedly at the bear's left joint.
The yellow-faced man faced the bear head-on, constantly dodging its paw strikes. After each dodge, he would retaliate with a slash, specifically targeting the copper seam at the bear's wrist joint.
The man with the sling steadied himself, shook the blood off his hands, and lunged forward again.
The four men attacked from all sides, slashing and smashing with knives and hammers. The bear was surrounded, and the joints of its four legs were damaged one after another, making its movements slower and slower.
The sallow-faced man seized the opportunity, rushed to the front of the bear, and plunged his knife into the groove in the center of the bronze mirror on its chest. The tip of the knife went in half an inch, and something was damaged, as a series of crisp cracking sounds came from inside.
The bear statue froze, then the light from the bronze mirror on its chest gradually dimmed, and its massive body tilted forward, crashing onto the stone slab with a loud thud, sending shards of stone flying and clattering across the floor.
"Dead?" The skinny man wiped his sweat.
"What do you mean 'dead or alive' for mechanical beasts?" The sallow-faced man drew his knife. "There are still two over there. Let's hurry and help the second brother take care of these annoying things first."
Soon after the group went to help, the skinny man and his group quickly finished the fight.
The bear he had entangled slowed down considerably after his repeated attacks on its joints. Taking advantage of this, the short, stocky man and the man with the sling on its left arm pounced on it together. The three weapons struck the bear's nape at the seam, and the successive attacks shattered the bronze shell there, revealing the dense gears and chains inside.
The lanky man plunged the knife in and twisted it a few times, causing the bear to stop moving completely, standing motionless in place.
Before the five people could even catch their breath, the last remaining bear pounced on them.
This bear was the same one that had fought the short, stocky man earlier. It was even more ferocious than the other two. When the short, stocky man went to support the tall, thin man, it chased after him for a few steps but couldn't catch up. Now it had locked onto its target again and charged directly at the short, thin man who was closest to it.
Having just been slapped away, the skinny man had exhausted most of his strength and inner energy. Now, facing the charging bear, he instinctively dodged to the side, not daring to take the blow head-on again.
But the bear was much faster than he had expected. It swept its paw across with a strong wind, and he could not dodge in time. He could only block with his sword, but the blade was broken in two by the paw. The bear's paw, with the remaining force, slammed into his chest.
The skinny man was sent flying, crashing into a distant stone wall before bouncing back to the ground. He spat out a mouthful of blood and struggled to get up, but he couldn't stand up after two attempts.
"Quick! Help me!" Seeing the giant bear charging towards him, he clearly panicked and frantically waved his hands at the others.
But no one responded to his cries for help.
The man with the sling and the yellow-faced man exchanged a glance, and the two of them rushed toward the bear at the same time. However, they did not go to rescue the skinny man who had fallen to the ground, but instead took advantage of the moment when the bear's attention was diverted to attack from the side.
The tall, thin man standing nearby glanced at the skinny man lying on the ground and joined in the attack.
The three men surrounded the last bear statue and launched a fierce attack. The short, stocky man hesitated for a moment, then also charged forward with his bronze hammer.
Driven into a berserk state by the group, the giant bear began wildly thrashing about, ignoring everything else. The skinny man was once again sent flying by a single blow.
The skinny man leaned against the wall, spitting out a mouthful of black blood. He watched as the four men were busy killing the giant bear, and no one paid him any attention.
He opened his mouth as if to say something, but before he could utter a word, he vomited another mouthful of blood.
The four of them worked together to besiege the bear for almost the time it takes for an incense stick to burn before finally stopping it.
The price they paid was not light either.
The sallow-faced man was slapped on the left shoulder, fracturing his scapula. The short, stocky man was kicked in the right calf by the bear, his calf swelling up like a sandbag, causing him to limp. The man with his left arm in a sling was in even worse shape; his left arm, which had been in a sling, was now only the upper arm, the forearm completely severed, blood still gushing from the cut, and his face was as pale as paper.
The skinny man was still leaning against the wall. The blows he had just received had damaged his internal organs, and he was completely unable to stand up. Even though he tried to regulate his breathing, he would still vomit a pool of blood every now and then.
The sallow-faced man squatted down, took out a medicine pouch from his pocket, poured out a few pills and distributed them to the others. He then walked up to the thin man and gave him one as well.
"Hang in there, victory is just around the corner."
The skinny man didn't say anything, swallowed the pill, but his injuries didn't improve much, and he was still vomiting blood.
After the three giant bears fell, before the group could move forward again, the bronze beast with a human face in the center of the hall moved on its own.
Its movements were so fluid that they didn't seem like a machine, but rather like a real person.
It took a step forward, and a powerful pressure enveloped the entire hall.
The sallow-faced man's expression changed. "Damn it, this thing isn't even a third-grade weapon. Let's get out of here!"
Before he could finish speaking, the human-faced beast had already moved.
A bronze-colored afterimage flashed by, and the yellow-faced man instinctively raised his knife to block, but before he could even raise the knife, he was punched in the chest.
He was sent flying backward, crashing into the base of a bear statue that had been stopped, and shattered bronze parts fell down with a clatter.
"Damn it, this thing's strength is at the peak of the mid-stage of the third rank!" the sallow-faced man gritted his teeth.
