Chapter 82 Conflict of Rules
Deep within the Hive base, Chen Haotian and Tony stood in the main control room, a complex energy structure diagram displayed on the holographic screen before them. This was a novel internal force transmission model they had designed based on the G-virus's rule-based buffering mechanism.
"Are you ready?" Chen Haotian asked, as pale golden internal energy began to gather in his palm.
Tony nodded, adjusting a miniature device on his wrist. "Jarvis is monitoring it in real time, and the experiment can be stopped at any time. But to be honest, I'm still a little worried about this 'improved version.'"
"Don't worry, this time we're using a simulated buffer structure, not directly implanting G-virus components," Chen Haotian explained. "Theoretically, this should avoid the energy conflict we had last time."
As the internal energy was slowly injected into Tony's body, both of them held their breath and watched the monitoring data. Initially, everything was normal; the Extremis virus energy and internal energy within Tony's body, under the effect of the simulated buffer structure, exhibited a stable coexistence.
"Looks like it's working." Tony felt the energy flowing through his body. "Much more comfortable than last time."
But just as Chen Haotian was preparing to increase his internal energy output, a sudden change occurred.
The lights in the Hive Base suddenly flickered violently, and the emergency red lights on the walls silently illuminated. The instrument readings on the main control panel began to jump wildly, and various alarm indicator lights flashed in succession.
"What's going on?" Tony asked immediately. "Jarvis, report the situation!"
"Unknown energy interference detected, source unknown," the AI responded. "Abnormal fluctuations have occurred in the base's power system."
Chen Haotian frowned, sensing that his internal energy was being interfered with by some external force: "Is it the Red Queen?"
"No, the source of the interference is not an artificial intelligence system," Jarvis replied. "The energy characteristics are highly similar to Mr. Chen's internal energy, but the frequency is completely different."
Suddenly, the entire control room shook violently. Brilliant sparks flew from the walls, and several monitors went black instantly. Chen Haotian had to interrupt the transmission of his internal energy, but it was too late.
"Energy readings continue to rise!" Jarvis warned. "The base's defense systems have been abnormally activated!"
Tony frantically manipulated the console, attempting to stabilize the system, but every command he gave seemed to sink without a trace: "The system isn't responding! Something is vying for control!"
Chen Haotian closed his eyes and focused all his attention on sensing the flow of energy around him. To his surprise, he discovered that the entire Hive Base seemed to have come alive, and its internal energy system resonated and clashed strongly with his internal energy.
"It's a conflict of rules!" he suddenly realized. "The energy rules of this world are repelling my internal energy!"
As if to confirm his words, a distorted energy field suddenly condensed in the center of the control room, within which pale gold and deep red energies could be vaguely seen colliding violently. The air was filled with the smell of ozone, and static electricity made both of their hair stand on end.
"We must evacuate immediately!" Tony shouted. "The entire base's energy systems are overloaded!"
But Chen Haotian stood still, his eyes gleaming with excitement: "Wait, this might be an opportunity!"
"Are you crazy?" Tony stared at him in disbelief. "This place could explode at any moment!"
"Exactly!" Chen Haotian quickly explained, "The energy generated by the conflict of rules from different worlds may be the 'universal harmonizer' we've been searching for!"
He gathered his inner strength again, but this time he didn't channel it into Tony; instead, he directly injected it into the distorted energy field. Surprisingly, the originally violent energy began to stabilize upon contact with his inner strength, forming a peculiar state of equilibrium.
"Jarvis, record the energy changes!" Tony immediately realized the value of it.
"Recording. A new energy form with high stability and adaptability has been detected," the AI responded.
However, this balance was extremely fragile. With the infusion of more internal energy, the energy field began to fluctuate violently once again. This time, the conflict expanded to encompass the entire base.
Alarms blared throughout the hive, passageway doors opened and closed automatically, and the ventilation system operated at abnormal power. Deeper into the laboratory, the sealed chambers containing the experimental subjects began to rattle, clearly indicating that the organisms inside had sensed danger.
"Chen, we have to go!" Tony grabbed Chen Haotian's arm. "If we don't leave now, it'll be too late!"
Chen Haotian nodded reluctantly, taking one last look at the still-changing energy field and memorizing its characteristics. The two quickly gathered crucial data and rushed towards the exit.
The instant they left the main control room, the energy field behind them finally reached its critical point, causing a violent explosion. The shockwave threw the two of them away, slamming them heavily against the corridor wall.
"Is this the opportunity you were talking about?" Tony got up, brushed the dust off his clothes, and said reproachfully.
Chen Haotian laughed: "Sometimes, the greatest risk also means the greatest reward. Jarvis, is the energy data intact?"
"Data completeness is 98.7%. The complete process of rule conflicts and energy change patterns have been recorded."
As they headed towards the exit, chaos escalated within the base. The power system completely collapsed, and only emergency lighting kept things afloat. The sounds of bursting pipes filled the air, and an unknown liquid seeped from the ceiling.
Just as he was about to reach the exit, Chen Haotian suddenly stopped, took out a small container from his pocket, and quickly collected some energy particles floating in the air.
"Souvenirs?" Tony asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Research sample." Chen Haotian carefully put away the container. "The energy generated by this conflict of rules may very well be the key to resolving the mutual exclusion of power systems in the multiverse."
As they finally broke out of the Hive base and returned to the streets of Raccoon City, a muffled explosion sounded behind them. Thick smoke billowed from the entrance of the Hive, indicating severe internal damage.
Tony stared at the smoking entrance and shook his head: "Next time you want to do this kind of dangerous experiment, tell me in advance so I can prepare an escape plan."
Chen Haotian did not respond; his attention was entirely focused on the energy sample in his hand. Through the container walls, he could sense the peculiar energy contained within—both familiar and strange, dangerous and full of possibilities.
"Is it worth it?" Tony finally asked.
Looking at the slightly glowing container in his hand, Chen Haotian smiled and said, "This risk is nothing compared to the key to harmonizing the powers of different worlds."
But they all understood that today's experience was just the beginning. Behind the clash of rules lay many more unknown secrets and challenges. And as they explored more of the world, these conflicts would only become more frequent and intense.
