The boy sighed, wrinkles creeping onto his face, his once straight body hunching over again, and he roared.
"Wake up!!!"
The moment he grasped the long spike, the chaotic power within the Chaos Arrow surged towards Macado in an overwhelming manner!
The rumors mentioned in the article do indeed exist regarding the two artists.
And the Mona Lisa incident that Neos mentioned refers to the political protest in Europe where environmental organizations threw paint and food at the Mona Lisa.
That's it! Great!
Chapter 525 Beneath the Dark Water
Makado blinked; he was standing at the entrance to the restaurant of his Terra residence.
The old man looked up and saw black, sticky liquid seeping from the cracks in the wall, slowly dripping down.
Macado looked around; sounds and aromas, carrying the warmth of food, emanated from the kitchen connected to the restaurant.
He thought for a moment, then walked to the dining table, sat down, and disgustedly pushed aside an oily, flat wine bottle on the table.
The old man waited patiently. In front of him at the table was his Mona Lisa, in which the woman's face had long since disappeared, leaving only a huge black hole; while behind Macardo, Sunflowers had completely turned into a pure black painting.
The person in the kitchen finished cooking, and footsteps sounded as they walked away, humming a cheerful little tune.
"—Aaaaaaah! Holy crap!!!"
Makado calmly watched Hades stumble as he walked out, nearly knocking over the bowl of food he was carrying. Hades, however, managed to stand firmly, looking at Makado with a shaken expression.
"Marcado?! Holy crap, what are you doing here, Old Ma?"
Hades said that he quickly put down the plate and bowl he was holding on the table and then rushed into the kitchen to prepare a meal for Makado as well.
Makado stared at the dishes Hades had laid out, sighed deeply, and said wearily, "I came to see you."
"Me?" Hades' energetic voice rang out from the kitchen. "I'm fine—Old Ma, how many bowls do you want?!"
"I'm not hungry." "Then one bowl!"
Hades came running out excitedly with a rice spoon in his mouth, placed the bowl in front of Makado, and then sat down opposite Makado. There was no need for formalities between Hades and Makado; Hades started eating right away.
Makado stared silently at Hades.
"what have you been up to?"
The old man abruptly asked, and Hades looked up, "Eat."
"anything else?"
Hades hesitated for a moment, his eyes blurring, "Sleep?"
Makado took another deep breath, looking calmly at Hades, a hint of resentment in his expression. "Nothing else?"
“That’s all,” Hades said. “By the way, Old Ma, what brings you here? It seems like—” Hades paused, then continued, “It seems like you’re the only one coming recently.”
Macado shook his head; he didn't touch his chopsticks. The old man desperately wanted a glass of wine—but he would absolutely not touch that dirty bottle.
“...others have come,” Macado said slowly, “but I was the closest.”
"Has anyone else been here?" Hades looked up and put down his chopsticks. "I was wondering why I sometimes felt something was off here."
Makado rolled his eyes. "You don't want to feel the presence of visitors directly, especially the one before me."
Hades thought for a moment, then mumbled, "I can't remember."
Makado sighed.
"You should go back to work, Hades—you've been eating too much, don't you realize you've gotten fat?"
“A little,” Hades said seriously, “but my bowl is overflowing with food, and wasting food is shameful, so I’ve decided to show it all off.”
"At first I felt so full I wanted to throw up, but later I could show off ten at once!"
Hades quickly cleared the table, and put down his chopsticks. "Old man, you didn't see what happened. Rice was spraying out of that bowl like a waterfall. I almost drowned there."
“But you still finished eating,” Macardo pointed out coldly, “and got fatter and fatter.”
Hades looked utterly wounded. "You guys should help me eat some too, don't just leave me to eat alone—where's Death? Give him some too."
Makado chuckled, then looked down and saw the unidentified glowing object in the bowl in front of him—this psychic energy appeared to originate from Slaanesh.
Macado subtly averted his gaze.
“I can’t enjoy this,” Macado said. “You shouldn’t eat either, Hades, it’s time to get up and get to work.”
"Get up?" Hades blinked. "I'm awake now, Old Ma, are you starving?"
Makado stared at Hades with a grave expression, remaining silent. The old man's gaze made Hades feel uneasy.
"What's wrong?" Hades said. He sensed something was off about Macado. The Macado in front of him was much weaker and thinner than he had known before.
Makado stood up. "This is my home," the old man said, emphasizing each word. "My abode on Terra—Hades. Why are you here?"
“I never invited you to my residence.”
Makado's voice became slurred, as if a video had frozen, and his limbs were breaking apart in space.
Hades opened his mouth. "Yes, this is your house," he said naturally, but his expression began to become unnatural. "...So...why am I in your house?"
Hades exclaimed in horror, "Holy crap, wait a minute! Wasn't I just in the palace?!"
Hades stood up abruptly, the chair behind him crashing to the ground. Hades looked around the room, and as he focused his attention on it, the space began to slowly melt away like chocolate.
"What the hell?!"
Hades looked at Macado, only to find that Macado, too, had melted like chocolate. His twisted mouth moved, but Hades couldn't hear what he was saying.
"Macado?!" Hades stepped across the table, trying to scoop up the melted Macado, but this only accelerated the process. In the end, Hades knelt on the ground, watching in despair as the melted Macado seeped into the floor.
Then, as if realizing something, Hades turned around and saw that the rice cooker he had placed in the kitchen, so out of place with the rest of the house, had started spewing something out again. But this time—Hades saw clearly—it was—Macado?!
Macadamia gushed out of the rice cooker! Ughh ...
Hades' mind went completely blank for a moment.
The intermittent sound pulled him back to reality. Hades slowly lowered his head as if struck a heavy blow, and saw the thing that had grown back on the plate. In the white dish, the abrupt mouth opened, and Macado said wearily,
"Hades, wake up...Hades..."
The impact caused Hades to sway, and he fell backward—and fell asleep immediately.
When he opened his eyes again, the tide had receded.
Everything is silent, all the stars are extinguished.
He was enveloped in endless darkness. Hades opened his eyes weakly, with an unknown liquid dripping from his mouth.
Now there's nothing left here, no psionic illusions, no Makado, nothing—no one at all, only Hades himself remains.
Hades stared into the endless darkness, just as he had done in the past, when he was a child on Barbarossa, he would sit alone on the riverbank every day, contemplating life.
Now, he lies alone in the River Styx he himself forged, imprisoned at the bottom, contemplating life in despair.
The waters of the River Styx pressed heavily on him, making it hard for him to breathe.
It's obvious that his brain isn't working very well right now.
Hades felt his thoughts sluggish. He wanted to think about what had happened, but something was preventing him from doing so. It was preventing him from thinking and from making decisions other than those based on instinct.
Just as they had expected.
So Hades activated his mental powers and began to think hard.
First, the simplest: 1+1=2, 1+2=3... Hades climbs the mountain of logic one by one, needing to rebuild the channels of logic and reason—this is also the most fundamental reliance that allows him to survive.
That's why he's a normal person in this world full of crazy people.
This took him a lot of time. Here, Hades has no concept of time, but he seems to have one, starting from 1+1 and deriving all the concepts and derived laws he has obtained.
And then... and then what?
Hades' gaze was unfocused as he painfully recalled the past. He thought of Macador, then the Emperor, then the Emperor's worthless sons: Mortarion, Angron... the Legion, the mortals... Makuragh...
He painstakingly re-examined his connection with the world, a process a thousand times more meticulous than when he was wiring his computer case. Although this process was interspersed with many fragments that did not belong to his memory, Hades knew that this might be... something those people had deliberately thrown at him.
This made him feel nauseous—Hades didn't know exactly how much he had eaten; the act of "devouring" was subconsciously personified as "eating," and he thought of the Macado that had just been spilled all over the ground—Hades sincerely hoped they hadn't completely sacrificed themselves to him.
However, those fragments were incomplete; Hades captured only a small portion of the information, while the rest, along with the psionic energy, entered the bottomless abyss known as the Dark Realm.
Hades couldn't see everything; he could see the crimson figure on the snowfield, the giant cocoon in the garden, and inside the palace...
Hades decisively stopped thinking about it.
Those memories were only fragments, and he didn't know exactly what had happened, so Hades sealed away these memories that didn't belong to him and continued to sort out his own information.
In the process, his urge to fight and kill those false gods grew stronger and stronger. Hades saw the people's perseverance and faith, which was exactly what he had been fighting for.
He doesn't ask for much; he just hopes people can live like human beings.
As Hades patiently worked on his chest, the pressure lessened and lessened, and Hades realized he could move. So he struggled and tried to swim upwards.
Pitch black, pitch black, an endless blackness. Hades swam for a very long time, until he almost began to doubt his own existence. Was there really an exit here, or had he swum in the wrong direction?
Fortunately, Hades could keep swimming. He prayed that Macardo was alright, that Mortarion didn't ascend to demon form, and that the Emperor wasn't sitting on the toilet... as he swam upwards, which was an extremely long process.
As time went on, Hades felt himself becoming more and more real, or perhaps something was still preventing him from regaining control. Hades began to get tired, and he reached his limit in holding his breath. Sometimes, he would faint from lack of oxygen, but he would wake up again in the cold waters of the underworld and continue swimming upwards.
For most people, this is a painful process. They don't know if they are heading in the right direction, or if there is an exit. The pain of drowning torments them at any time. They will doubt themselves and everything in this process, and eventually head towards self-destruction.
But for Hades, he only hoped that the distance he swam upstream was greater than the distance he sank to the bottom when he was unconscious.
However, Hades thought that if the exit was at the bottom, it would be fine if it sank a little more. He was afraid that the amount sinking downwards would be the same as the amount sinking upwards, which would make him want to vomit blood.
So he swam upstream, lost consciousness due to lack of oxygen, and sank. He woke up and continued swimming upstream, only to sink again due to lack of oxygen...
Finally, a beam of light, dim to the extreme, pierced through the river.
Hades' eyes lit up, and he swam upwards with even greater effort—thankfully, he didn't give up—although he secretly slacked off 6981 times along the way, he still persevered in swimming upwards.
Fortunately, he was a Death Guard, Hades thought. Any other legion would have been wiped out long ago. Only the idiotic education and brain-dead genes of the Mortarion could train people like them who were determined not to submit and would stubbornly refuse to turn back even when they hit a wall.
Go back and give Mortarion a chicken leg!
But Mortarion didn't like to eat, so Hades did it for him!
It grew brighter and brighter, beams of light piercing through the water. Hades looked up and saw the points of light gradually enlarging, becoming lines, stretching, and widening...
Hades stopped.
He stared in disbelief at everything before him, the gentle, off-white light shining on his face, ripples spreading across his skin.
Those that are glowing are all people.
Hundreds of thousands, trillions, of sleeping people floated silently on the water, their faces serene and peaceful.
They seemed to be carved from some kind of luminous jade, radiating a soft glow, and slowly sank to the bottom of the river under the soothing touch of the dark water.
Under the light, Hades raised his hand and saw that he was completely black, like the deepest night.
Okay, he won't glow.
Hades realized who those people were. He carefully pushed them aside and continued swimming upwards. Only then did he realize that what he had just witnessed was but a drop in the ocean.
As he ascended, the light grew stronger, and Hades had to squint to continue. He seemed to be swimming in the center of a flowing star, gently pushing aside people, or perhaps everything else, as he swam upstream.
It was still a long process, and he fainted 359 times during the process. Fortunately, the people under him supported him, which made his descent more slow.
Finally, Hades saw the shimmering water, with the colorful aurora flowing across it and reflecting on his face.
He saw Makado's figure floating not far below the surface of the water, but it was not glowing; it was just Makado's original form.
Without hesitation, Hades swam over, picked up Macado, and burst out of the water.
Hades opened his eyes with tears streaming down his face. He saw Macado slowly crumbling before him.
"Fuck you..."
This was the first thing Macado said to Hades.
Yay! That's all!
Chapter 526 Awakening
Above Kadia, a massive storm formed on the surface, appearing from the void like a giant monocular eye watching over all living beings.
