Chapter 20: Bring a Son for the Master

Chapter 20: Bring a Son for the Master

The Batmobile, engulfed in flames, crashed into the darkness before dawn.

Batman's back was broken by Bane's knee strike, and then he was lifted up and slammed to the ground.

shhhhh--

A barrage of batarangs shot towards Bane, but his bulging muscles completely ignored the feeble batarangs. He walked step by step up to Batman and spoke condescendingly:

"Theatrical gadgets and illusions can only fool unsophisticated laymen."

"But we're not ordinary people, are we, Bruce Wayne?"

As he spoke, Bain turned to look at Connors, who had approached, his voice muffled by the mask:

"It's rare to find someone in Gotham who shows their true colors."

Bane had already walked up to Batman, raising one foot high:

"If you're here to help him, then you'd better watch out, because you'll end up in the same situation."

Connors nodded obediently:

"Awesome."

Bain didn't understand, but that didn't stop him from stomping his foot hard.

If that kick lands squarely, Batman, with his broken spine, will only face certain death.

At the critical moment, a grappling hook shot out, pulling Batman away from Bane's feet, but Bane also used the force of the stomp to leap up.

Despite being a mountain of flesh, it seemed to have maximum agility, leaping directly from a high place to where the grappling hook was attached.

"Type 1 if you need help".

Batman heard Connors' voice in his ear, and just as he was wondering what it meant, Connors made his move.

The grappling hook was originally caught on a rock not far away, but then the rock inexplicably changed position, causing Batman to change direction as well.

Bain jumped but missed, and when he tried to continue, he found that his feet were already stuck in the mud.

Where did this mud puddle come from by the lake? This question flashed through his mind, and then he bent down and charged at Batman like a wild beast, using all four limbs.

But the stone shifted position again, causing Bain to stop, frowning, and then fix his bloodshot eyes on Connors:

"I told you, it was dramatic..."

"Okay, okay, I understand, I understand." Connors spoke in a tone as if coaxing a child, and then continued setting up the setup—a master-level trick.

In all his life, Bane had always been treated like a demon, and this was the first time he had ever been spoken to in such a tone. He felt a surge of anger and decided to kill the guy who had been interfering with him.

Seeing that Batman and he had taken cover behind the car that had just driven by, Bane strode forward, grabbed the chassis of the muscle car with one hand, and flipped it over.

To his surprise, Connors and Batman were nowhere to be seen.

"Your sleight of hand is really good," Bain praised sincerely, then lifted the muscle car with both hands again.

After he frantically plowed through the surrounding ground, he still couldn't find the two people; they seemed to have vanished into thin air.

The once-flat ground was now so soft it could practically grow vegetables, and the muscle car was completely dismantled.

Bain was panting heavily. He even jumped into the lake and made a scene, but there was no one hiding in the water. It was as if he had evaporated into thin air.

"Dude, if you don't leave soon, I'm about to be exposed..."

Connors looked helplessly at Bane, who seemed to want to dig three feet into the ground to find him, and thought to himself.

He initially hid behind the muscle car with Batman, and began moving towards the burning Batmobile when Bane overturned it.

So far, he and Batman have remained hidden behind the flames of the burning Batmobile, using the "Master of Tricks" ability to keep Bane from seeing him.

However, as time went on, the flames burning the Batmobile grew weaker and weaker, and soon they would no longer be able to extinguish them completely.

Fortunately, Bain finally lost patience, left, then suddenly returned. After several failed attempts to find him, he finally left completely.

At this point, the flames burning on the Batmobile were almost extinguished.

"Your car isn't very heat-resistant. Next time, I suggest you switch to a more heat-resistant material, like oak," Connors said to the listless Batman.

Mr. Wayne glanced at him helplessly and pressed a button.

The lake surface churned, and a sloping, lifting platform broke through layers of silt and emerged from the bottom of the water, while the cap blocking the water inlet opened automatically.

"..."

Batman didn't speak, and Connors, knowing his intentions, hoisted him onto his back and headed towards the entrance.

Inside the bat cave, the butler Alfred, seeing the two people coming down from the elevator platform, already knew what had happened outside, and quickly pushed the stretcher over.

Soon, the fully automated operating table in the bat cave began its work. The butler, Alfred, smiled at Connors and extended a hand:

"Young Master Patterson, would you like a bathrobe and cigarettes prepared for you?"

"……Hey."

Upon hearing this, Connors knew that the white-haired but rather robust old butler was joking with him, and shook hands with him.

The previous times, after finishing his business, he would light a cigarette half-naked and stare blankly at Batman.

As the man behind Batman, Alfred, the butler, must have known about these things long ago.

"I've come to him with a problem to solve—don't worry, not to fight him," Connors explained. "But running into Bane was truly unexpected. It seems that what we need to address in the short term is the issue of finding a replacement for Batman."

Gotham City can go one night without Batman, but it can't go several days without him, otherwise those troublemakers will definitely cause trouble.

The butler, Alfred, knew this, and Connors, who had read the comics, naturally knew it as well.

"Let's make arrangements after he wakes up, Master Paterson. Please rest in the drawing room for a while," said the butler, Alfred, gesturing for him.

"No need... I've noticed what seems to be toxins in his body." Connors declined the butler's offer, uttering words that immediately put the butler on alert.

Lord Wayne has spores inside him, containing the aura of the green of all things... Was he going to find Poison Ivy, but was attacked by her?

Connors looked at Bruce Wayne, who was lying motionless on the operating table. With a thought, countless pale green spores flew out of Bruce Wayne's mouth and nose, into Connors' hand, and then turned grayish-white, becoming completely ineffective.

Alfred was relieved to see this. He had been worried that the man would take advantage of the situation, but now it seemed that he had been paranoid.

Time passed quickly, and thanks to his superior physical abilities, Bruce Wayne woke up at nine o'clock in the morning. The first thing he said to Connors was:

"How did you do that?"

He also remembered the series of bizarre actions Connors took after he appeared.

Want to learn? I'll teach you... Connors laughed and changed the subject:

"I think you should be more worried about Gotham's successor, shouldn't you?"

"I'll give you one day to solve this problem, and then tonight I'll discuss another one with you, the one about the end of the world."

After saying that, Connors turned and left Wayne Manor, borrowing a carriage from the butler Alfred before leaving to avoid walking.

He waited all day just to say that one sentence to Lord Wayne, and then he had another thing to do:

After making a request to the star singer Xuexi to live off her, she agreed on the condition that Connors must clear the waterway again and accompany her to see today's circus performance.

The dredging of the waterway was completed before departure, leaving only the circus performance to be done.

The circus wasn't anything special, and Connors wasn't interested, but the circus's name was anything but simple: "Flying Grayson."

Although it deviates from the expected path, it generally aligns with the comic book plot. Perhaps when he returns in the evening, he will bring back a son for Lord Wayne.
