Chapter 28 Southern Wilderness Tales

Chapter 28 Southern Wilderness Tales

The best way to master a language is to use it for communication as much as possible.

So Chen Beiwu didn't use his divine sense, but instead communicated in the Southern Wilderness language: "Are you alright?"

Mo Li stood there, still not having reacted.

"Could it be that the female cultivator had a trick up her sleeve, and the Southern Wilderness language in the jade slip was wrong?" Chen Beiwu frowned slightly.

At this moment, Mo Li finally came to her senses.

She took two steps back, glanced at the five-red snake lying dead on the ground, and respectfully bowed to Chen Beiwu: "My lord, did you save me just now?"

"Hmm." Chen Beiwu nodded and continued testing the Southern Wilderness language.

He turned his gaze to the grass growing among the rocks and asked, "Where are you from, and where is this place?"

Mo Li blinked her dark eyes, took a few light steps, and stood in front of the grass in the stone with a confused look on her face. "My lord, what are you talking about?"

Chen Beiwu changed his question to something more colloquial: "What's your name? Where is this place?"

"My name is Mo Li, and the villagers call this place the Barren Mountain," she said truthfully.

"You'd risk your life for this herb, so it seems you know it?" Chen Beiwu said bluntly.

A blush crept onto Mo Li's slightly dark cheeks as she guessed, "This should be the Azure Crystal Herb; it can fetch a good price at a pharmacy."

Chen Beiwu was somewhat surprised.

It's normal for herbs to have many names, as different places call them different things.

But Stone Grass is still a second-tier spiritual herb, a treasure that cannot be bought with mere silver.

"This thing is destined for me, but you were the one who discovered this herb first," Chen Beiwu said thoughtfully.

Upon hearing this, Mo Li immediately clenched her fists in tension.

Although she had never been to a town and had limited experience, she knew a little bit about it.

The village chief was a prominent figure in the surrounding area, with a wife and thirteen concubines serving him, and he could eat meat at every meal. Yet, even the most elaborate clothes worn by the village chief did not look as good as those of the noble young man before him.

This shows that the other party is a big shot that even the village chief cannot afford to offend, a powerful figure whose word can determine one's life or death.

No matter what decision the other party makes, even if it's to take away the Azure Crystal Grass, she can only obediently accept it, otherwise that Five-Red Serpent will be her fate.

But then, Father...

Thinking of this, Mo Li mustered her courage and looked directly at Chen Beiwu: "My lord, you saved me, and I will serve you as your servant to repay your kindness. But I discovered this herb, could you leave it to me?"

At this point, she closed her eyes and said weakly, "If all else fails, I can give you my life back, but it will have to be a few days later."

The other party saved her life, so logically she shouldn't care about a mere spiritual herb.

But Mo Li had no choice; her family simply didn't have the money. If they couldn't raise enough for the medical fees, her father would have a hard time surviving.

Rather than watch her father die, she would rather repay his kindness with her own life.

Upon hearing this, Chen Beiwu couldn't help but laugh and said, "Why would I want your life for no reason? I'll forget about repaying your kindness. Without you, I wouldn't have discovered this spiritual herb."

Seeing Chen Beiwu's gentle attitude, Mo Li couldn't help but widen her eyes: "So what do you mean?"

"Stretch out your hand."

As Chen Beiwu finished speaking, Mo Li obediently extended her dark, rough palm.

"Is this enough silver?" Chen Beiwu put down a silver ingot, weighing about fifty taels.

"That's enough, that's enough." Mo Li nodded repeatedly.

With that much silver, she could buy not only the Azure Crystal Herb, but even five of them.

Seeing this, Chen Beiwu smiled, without any hint of disdain.

Mortals love gold and silver, while cultivators pursue spirit stones. The former seek glory and wealth, while the latter seek strength and longevity. There is no essential difference between the two; both are pursuing their inner desires.

Squatting down, Chen Beiwu carefully dug out the grass from the stone and put it away. He then looked at Mo Li and asked, "Where is your village? Take me there."

"My lord, please follow me." Mo Li quickly stepped forward to lead the way, her movements swift and decisive.

As Chen Beiwu used his divine sense to search his surroundings and move forward, he communicated with Mo Li, purely as a way to practice the Southern Wilderness language and learn about the situation in this world.

Mo Li's village is called Shuanghe Village because it is close to two rivers, and it has more than a hundred households. When the villagers need supplies, they organize themselves to go to the nearest town, Shuishan, to trade.

As for the situation outside of Shuishan Town, Mo Li knew nothing about it. She only knew that Shuishan Town belonged to Ze Kingdom, and that Ze Kingdom had immortal masters who could fly on swords.

Still young at heart, seeing Chen Beiwu's friendly attitude, Mo Li couldn't help but muster her courage and ask, "Sir, are you a martial artist, or a legendary immortal master?"

"That's not important," Chen Beiwu said calmly.

Mo Li lowered her head, her tone becoming dejected, "Okay."

After crossing a hill and traversing a rugged path, two clear streams gradually came into Chen Beiwu's view.

About a mile away from the stream, there are hundreds of scattered houses, with wisps of smoke rising from the rooftops of each one.

"My lord, that's my home. Would you like to come and sit down?" Mo Li boldly extended an invitation.

"Okay." Chen Beiwu nodded.

Under the curious gaze of the surrounding villagers, Mo Li led him to a simple wooden house.

Before even entering the house, Chen Beiwu could "see" through his divine sense a gaunt man lying on a bed of dry grass, looking like he was on the verge of death.

"Father, I'm back."

After saying this, Mo Li bowed to Chen Beiwu and pleaded, "Sir, I'd like to buy some medicine. Could you please help me?"

She still understands the principle of "borrowing the tiger's power to intimidate others".

Without an adult accompanying her, she wouldn't dare take fifty taels of silver to buy medicine; it could easily lead to something bad happening.

"It's just a bit of typhoid fever, I can cure it." Chen Beiwu pushed open the wooden door.

"Ah Li, who is this?"

Upon seeing Chen Beiwu appear, a hint of fear appeared on the gaunt man's face.

"Father, this gentleman is a very kind person. He saved me in the mountains," Mo Li reminded him.

Upon hearing the beginning, the gaunt man quickly forced a stiff smile.

nice guy?

Silly daughter, there are no good people in this world!

However, this person was dressed in extraordinary clothes and had fair skin, clearly a wealthy young master from outside. They, as villagers from the mountains, could not afford to offend him.

Upon hearing his daughter's next words, the gaunt man's expression immediately changed, his eyes filled with worry: "What? You went to the desolate mountains again!"

"No, I was just gathering some firewood at the foot of the mountain." After lying, Mo Li looked at Chen Beiwu: "Sir, you just said that Father's illness can be cured, is that true?"

Chen Beiwu said, "Of course, I never lie."

His only flaw is that he is kind-hearted and cannot bear to see people suffer.

Therefore, his willingness to take the initiative to save Mo Li's father had nothing to do with the value of the Stone Grass at six hundred spirit stones.

"Please, sir, save my father! I'll do anything!" Mo Li pulled out silver coins with both hands, wanting to kneel on the ground and beg.
