Chapter 348: You could’ve just admitted you wanted to fight me
Chapter 348: You could’ve just admitted you wanted to fight me
Beyond the Domain, Vincent stood atop a floating fragment of starstone, gazing at Vangar across the void.
"Vangar, you’ve been standing there staring at me for half an hour."
His brows furrowed slightly.
"You dragged me all the way out here. What exactly are you trying to do?"
Before dawn, Vangar had sent him a message asking him to meet, claiming he had something important regarding Rory to discuss.
After Vincent arrived, Vangar had led him away from Z1689 and all the way to this desolate region of space.
By now, Vincent had already figured it out.
The excuse about Rory had been a lie from the beginning.
The entire purpose had simply been to lure him away.
But who benefited from that?
A thought suddenly crossed his mind.
"Vangar, don’t tell me you pulled me out here just to give Xarion a chance to be alone with Rory."
With both of them gone, Xarion would have uninterrupted time with her.
"When did you and Xarion start working together?"
Vincent narrowed his eyes.
"You two used to barely tolerate each other. A few days later, and now you’re suddenly allies."
Vangar rolled his shoulders and stretched lazily.
"Stop overthinking it."
He glanced at Vincent.
"Yes, bringing you out here does create an opportunity for Xarion."
"But that isn’t my real reason."
Vincent looked at him.
"Then what is?"
Vangar did not bother with evasions.
"I want to see how powerful your ability has become."
A laugh escaped Vincent.
"You could’ve just admitted you wanted to fight me."
His lips curved into a cold smile.
"There was no need to dress it up with such a noble excuse."
No matter how strong his abilities had become, he was still only Rank Eleven.
Vangar was Rank Twelve. There was no way he could win.
"Believe whatever you want."
Vangar cracked his knuckles.
"Just make your move."
Without another word, he attacked.
Ever since Vincent’s Nirvana, Vangar had been convinced that his Rank had risen.
What he did not know was how much.
After all, Rory had sacrificed so much blood during that process.
There was no way all of that could have resulted in a single Rank increase.
The problem was that Vincent remembered nothing about his Nirvana.
He had forgotten the breakthrough entirely.
In his mind, he was still Rank Eleven.
But power could not lie.
A simple fight would reveal exactly what he had become.
Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Rory remained in the bathroom for quite some time before the nausea finally eased.
"Female Master, I’m taking you to the hospital."
Xarion stared at her pale face, his heart twisting painfully.
At that moment, he no longer cared whether she had been disgusted by him or not.
He had already fed her Yuel’s leaves and flowers, yet nothing had helped.
Without hesitation, he carried her out of the bathroom and quickly helped her into a fresh set of clothes.
Then he scooped her into his arms and hurried toward the door.
His pace was urgent and frantic, every stride long and swift, as though he wished he could teleport directly to the hospital.
Rory lay weakly against his chest.
Her complexion was as pale as paper.
The rosy color that usually brightened her lips had completely vanished.
Her brows remained tightly knitted in discomfort, and tiny tears still clung to her long lashes, forced out by the violent waves of nausea moments earlier.
She looked heartbreakingly fragile, as though she might shatter at the slightest touch.
The sight squeezed Xarion’s heart like an iron fist.
Pain and panic churned together inside him.
Just moments ago, she had been perfectly fine.
How had she suddenly become this sick?
For an instant, a terrible thought flashed through his mind.
Had he gone too far?
The idea appeared only briefly before being swallowed by deeper worry and guilt.
This was not the time to dwell on that.
Nothing mattered more than Rory’s health.
Holding her tightly, Xarion practically charged out of the room.
The moment he reached the hotel lobby, he nearly ran into Polly and her mate, who were just heading outside.
Polly immediately spotted Rory in his arms.
She rushed forward at once.
The moment she saw Rory’s deathly pale face, her own heart clenched with alarm.
"What happened to Rory?"
"What?"
The moment Polly heard that Xarion intended to take Rory to the hospital, she quickly stepped forward to stop him.
"The medical facilities on Z1689 aren’t very advanced. Rory is suffering this badly. Even if you take her there, they may not be able to relieve her condition right away."
She hesitated for a moment before adding, "If you trust me, why don’t I ask my brother, Lian, to take a look at her?"
She was not trying to create an opportunity for her brother.
She was simply telling the truth.
Z1689 was one of the planets closest to the Outer Domain, a place that could be dragged into war at any moment.
Because of that, many aspects of life here lagged behind the rest of civilization, including medical technology.
The only reason so many people still traveled here was that rare treasures and resources occasionally surfaced near the Outer Domain, attracting adventurers and treasure seekers from everywhere.
"Lian?"
Xarion frowned.
"He’s a doctor?"
"Yes!"
Polly nodded enthusiastically.
"My brother is an excellent physician. Really."
Xarion knew she was right.
The medical facilities on Z1689 were far from ideal.
At this point, rivals and jealousy no longer mattered.
All that mattered was Rory.
As long as she was safe, he did not care whether there was one rival or a hundred.
"Alright."
He agreed almost immediately.
"Then I’ll have to trouble your brother."
Relieved, Polly quickly opened her communicator and contacted Lian.
Fortunately, he was staying upstairs.
The moment he received her call, he came immediately.
By then, Xarion had already carried Rory back to her room.
Polly and her mate followed as well, hoping they might be able to help.
When Lian entered, he found Rory lying on the bed, her eyes tightly shut in discomfort, her face pale and strained.
She could not even speak.
The nausea had eased slightly, but now a pounding headache throbbed behind her eyes.
"Brother, she..."
Polly had only just begun explaining Rory’s condition when a flash of white swept past her vision.
In the next instant, Lian was already standing beside the bed.
Without a word, he took Rory’s wrist into his hand.
A gentle stream of power, clear and soothing like spring water, flowed from his fingertips and spread through every corner of her body.
Slowly, the tension locked into her muscles began to fade.
Her rigid frame relaxed beneath the comforting energy.
The crease between her brows softened.
A faint hint of color gradually returned to her pale cheeks.
"Female Master, how are you feeling?"
The moment Rory opened her eyes, Xarion stepped forward anxiously.
The nausea was gone.
The headache had disappeared as well.
Only a lingering weakness remained.
"I feel much better."
Her voice was still soft, but far steadier than before.
She turned toward Lian.
"Thank you, Lian."
Although she had been too uncomfortable to speak earlier, she had remained conscious the entire time and knew exactly what he had done for her.
Xarion also looked at Lian with sincere gratitude.
"Thank you."
"You don’t need to thank me."
Lian’s gaze rested gently on Rory.
"Being able to help you is my honor."
He still held her hand.
"Your condition is stable for now, but I need to perform a more thorough examination."
His expression became serious.
"Only after identifying the cause can we determine the proper treatment."
Rory nodded.
"Sorry for troubling you."
Standing nearby, Xarion asked immediately, "Is there anything I can do to help?"
Lian shook his head.
Then, with a wave of his hand, he retrieved several highly sophisticated medical instruments from his spatial ring.
