Chapter 219: Investigation
Chapter 219: Investigation
Gelna and the fox sisters entered the Intelligence Hall. At the moment Cecelia was the only one left—Morwag helped her from time to time, but he wasn’t very good at collecting information—in this department as Kadyn had sent other members to different branches. Furthermore, Gelna and the fox sisters were the natives of this place, they could gather information a lot more easily as compared to the other members of the shop. Cecelia was an exception, of course, her dark element gave her an extra edge in this matter.
After dealing with the new members, Kadyn purchased a shop inside the Dewhurst market. Eventually moving inside the main market. He agreed that dislocating the shop to another district wouldn’t be a wise decision, but Dewhurst was now his turf. He controlled almost seventy percent of the business of potions and artefacts.
"Do you have any updates about the Elven Potion branch?" Kadyn asked.
"Nothing," Cecelia shook her head. "They are too low-key nowadays; I think they don’t want to give anyone the impression that they are the killer of Grand Spire’s branch manager. After all, the Grand Spire is equally powerful as compared to the Elven Potion."
Kadyn nodded, then said, "Do you think they would suspect us? After all, we’re progressing too fast and all this happened after the murder. It’d be too stupid to not consider us the murderers."
"Oh, I think we are already on their radar," said Cecelia. "However, without any proof they can’t do anything. After all, we are not nobody anymore. We are the biggest seller of potions and artefacts in Dewhurst, and people of the district love the shop for selling its items at such affordable prices. They have no choice but to wait for you to make a mistake."
"I see," Kadyn nodded. "How are those three girls doing?"
"Oh, they are quite smart," Cecelia replied with a smile. "I just explained a single time, and they understood what they needed to do. I think it would be a lot easier to collect intelligence with their help. They just need to improve their strength and everything would be perfect."
"Good—"
"One more thing," Kadyn eyed her as she continued. "The Elven Potion might try to accuse us of the murder, as by doing it, they would remove a tuff competitor and make their name clear as well."
"Why do you say that?" he asked.
"Didn’t you notice the increase in the number of elven customers for some time?"
Kadyn’s eyes widened and peered at the roaming customers in the hall. Indeed, the elven people were almost double the other customers, but they were also the people who purchased the least. Only around ten percent of elven people bought anything. This also proved Cecelia’s point. They were indeed here to spy.
At this moment a group of four people strolled into the hall. Kadyn recognised three people: Almon the branch manager of Elven Potion in Dewhurst and his two lackeys, Thallan and Imra. Though he failed to recognise the last person; his status seemed no lower than Almon as he was walking side by side with him. He had a long nose and the sharp eyes of an eagle. Tall build and black hair. He wore a black suit and a white handkerchief was placed in the front pocket of his coat. His black boot made a kat, kat, kat sound when he strolled on the concrete floor of the shop.
"Mr. Kadyn meet—"
"I’m Vance." The man interrupted Almon and introduced himself. Kadyn spotted Thallan and Imra’s lips curling into a mocking smile. His own lips formed an arc when Almon rubbed his nose to hide his embarrassment. Vance went on. "I’m the investigator of the branch manager Jornolir’s murder."
"I see," Kadyn nodded nonchalantly. "How may I help you, Mr. Vance?"
"It’s just Vance," the man said, smiling. Then he looked around and said, "How’s your business, Kadyn?"
"Great," Kadyn said. "As the Grand Spire branch inside Dewhurst is unable to open, people could only find an alternative—that is my shop."
"That is to say, your shop has benefitted greatly by Jornolir’s murder?" he said, eyes piercing at Kadyn, as if he was trying to see the greatest secrets of his heart.
Kadyn smiled in return. "I wouldn’t say that," he shook his head. "No one killed the branch manager of Elven Potion, but I still sell almost an equal number of potions as compared to artefacts. You can see by yourself that most of my customers are elves. Definitely, the murder of Jornolir has let my business grow faster, but I would have done the same eventually, anyway. It was just a matter of time."
Kadyn could feel Almon’s piercing gaze on him, but he cared little about him. He could kill him whenever he wanted. ’You sent your people to spy on me. Why are you getting angry if I use you to make my argument stronger?’ he sneered inside his head. Though he remained expressionless on the surface.
Vance eyed kadyn and frowned. He couldn’t find any fault with him. The confidence. He was too confident. This was the only fault. However, with just this, he could not accuse him of the murder. Then he took a breath and smiled at Kadyn before extending his hand. "Thanks for your cooperation. I would like to meet you once more."
Kadyn grabbed his hand and said, "Likewise." ’I’m not insane to wish to meet you again.’ he thought. ’I’m pretty happy in my life, now get lost, pretty please.’
As soon as Vance exited the shop, Kadyn slumped into his chair. Cecelia appeared beside him also staring towards the exit.
"Very powerful Psychic mage," Kadyn said. "If I wasn’t inside the shop, then maybe even with my own Psychic element, I would have been unable to protect my thoughts from him, revealing everything to him."
"Scary," Cecelia muttered.
"Indeed," replied Kadyn. Then went on. "Don’t tell Elora and others that we are the murderers of Jornolir. We can’t take any chance."
