Chapter 70 Steward Qin really holds a grudge.
Chapter 70 Steward Qin really holds a grudge.
Upon hearing this, Qin Chuan was taken aback, then subconsciously denied it.
"Master Liu, you jest. How could I possibly be Xiaoxiaosheng? Those few comments I made just now were merely parroting what I've heard from him after spending so much time by his side. To assume I'm Xiaoxiaosheng based on just a few words would be rather rash."
But Liu Rushi seemed not to hear his explanation. She simply tilted her head slightly, her foxy eyes staring straight at him. The smile in her eyes not only did not fade, but actually deepened.
"Manager Qin, you've misunderstood. I didn't doubt you because of those comments just now." She raised her eyes, her gaze meeting Qin Chuan's directly, a smile playing on her lips. "On the contrary, it was because of those words that I truly confirmed it."
Qin Chuan felt a slight unease in his heart when she looked at him, but he remained outwardly calm.
He picked up his teacup and took a sip, using the act of drinking tea to conceal his guilty conscience: "I don't understand what you're saying, Lady Liu."
"Want to know where you slipped up?" Liu Rushi's voice suddenly softened, carrying a hint of sly laughter, like a fox stealing a chicken.
Qin Chuan didn't reply, but simply leaned back on the bamboo couch, maintaining the "I don't understand what you're saying" expression on his face.
Looking at his stubborn expression, Liu Rushi's smile deepened.
She calmly said, "When you rejected me on behalf of Xiaoxiaosheng just now, you rejected him too decisively. Normally, you should have asked him, even if it was just for show, and then come back to tell me 'Mr. Xiaoxiaosheng declined,' as a kind of explanation. But you didn't. You rejected him on the spot, without leaving any room for negotiation. There may be a million reasons in this world for Xiaoxiaosheng to refuse to see people, but the only person who can make the decision for him is himself."
She tilted her head, her tone carrying a certain self-assurance without sounding arrogant. "Besides, Steward Qin, not to brag, but since I made a name for myself, I have never met a person who refused to see me after I personally invited them. Even if Xiaoxiaosheng truly dislikes meeting strangers, if he hears it's me, he will definitely come to see me."
"Is Master Liu so confident?" Qin Chuan retorted. "What if Xiaoxiaosheng simply doesn't want to see him?"
Liu Rushi's foxy eyes curved slightly, the smile at the corners of her eyes impossible to suppress: "Haven't I already met him?"
Qin Chuan felt a tightness in his throat from those words, and was about to stubbornly refuse to budge.
But then Liu Rushi across from them suddenly chuckled softly, her voice clear and melodious, like a spring dripping on a stone.
"Alright," she nodded, "If Manager Qin says it's not true, then it's not true. However, I still have some questions about painting techniques. Could I ask Manager Qin for some guidance? You've been learning from Mr. Xiao, so you must be better at it than someone like me who's just trying to figure it out on my own. I hope you won't hesitate to teach me."
Qin Chuan raised his eyes and met Liu Rushi's gaze.
The meaning couldn't be clearer: I won't expose your identity, but you can't escape the matter of your painting skills.
Qin Chuan remained silent for a moment, then sighed inwardly.
He put down his teacup, his tone carrying a hint of resignation: "I dare not presume to offer my guidance. Whatever you wish to ask, Master Liu, I will do my best to answer."
A triumphant smile flashed in Liu Rushi's eyes, but she didn't press him any further.
She unfolded the painting she had just copied, and the two of them asked and answered questions, and before they knew it, several minutes had passed.
After asking the question, Liu Rushi looked at Qin Chuan and said, "Manager Qin, could you paint a picture for me? Not the one in the style of the previous one, but one based on my current attire. Of course, the fee will be substantial; consider the extra cost as tuition for your previous painting lessons."
As she spoke, she took out a silver ingot from her sleeve and gently placed it on the tea table. It was of excellent quality and looked to be at least twenty taels.
Qin Chuan's gaze lingered on the silver ingot for a moment, then he looked into Liu Rushi's eyes.
After a moment of silence, he nodded: "Since it is Lady Liu who has spoken, then I will give it a try."
Upon hearing this, Liu Rushi smiled and said nothing more. She got up, walked to the window, and leaned against the window frame again.
Qin Chuan spread out the drawing paper, picked up the charcoal pencil, took a deep breath to clear his mind of distractions, and began to draw.
This drawing took almost half an hour.
Qin Chuan put down his charcoal pencil, blew the charcoal ash off the paper, took a half step back to examine it carefully, and then said, "Alright, Ms. Liu, come and take a look."
Liu Rushi walked gracefully to Qin Chuan's side and looked down at the painting.
Her languid posture leaning against the window was painted with exquisite detail, down to the smallest folds in her gauze dress.
But the painting only shows her back; it doesn't depict her face.
She paused slightly, then turned to look at Qin Chuan: "Why isn't your face painted?"
"Your face is covered by a veil, so I can't see it. How could I possibly paint it?" Qin Chuan shrugged, speaking as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Upon hearing this, Liu Rushi was taken aback at first, then chuckled softly.
She knew that Qin Chuan was doing it on purpose, as revenge for her earlier exposure of Xiaoxiaosheng's identity.
"Manager Qin is really vengeful." Liu Rushi raised her eyes, her foxy eyes glancing sideways at Qin Chuan. Her tone was three parts reproach and seven parts teasing, but the corners of her mouth were slightly upturned, clearly indicating that she didn't really care.
Then she raised her hand and neatly removed the veil. The veil gently fell onto the table, and her face, which had been hidden behind a haze, was finally revealed to Qin Chuan without any concealment.
Her eyebrows were like distant mountains shrouded in mist, and her eyes were like brimming autumn water.
At first glance, she has an extremely pure and beautiful appearance, but paired with those naturally alluring and seductive eyes, she exudes an ultimate blend of innocent and seductive charm.
Her face blended perfectly with her innocence and charm, like a masterpiece sculpted by God.
Although Qin Chuan was somewhat prepared, he still froze uncontrollably the moment he saw that face.
Even though he had experienced the information explosion of the modern era and seen countless beauties on the screen and in magazines, the face in front of him still made his heart skip a beat.
It was a perfect balance, meticulously crafted yet without a trace of artifice.
Any more and it would be vulgar; any less and it would be bland. It just happens to be right on that line, perfectly balanced.
"And now?" Liu Rushi asked, a hint of smugness flickering in her eyes.
She was clearly very confident in her looks and was used to seeing men's reactions when they saw her face.
She had taken in Qin Chuan's momentary daze.
Hearing this, Qin Chuan snapped out of his daze, but shook his head again: "I still can't draw it."
"Why?" Liu Rushi raised an eyebrow, clearly somewhat surprised.
"Because of your eyes. I can't draw your eyes." Qin Chuan's gaze lingered on her face for a moment, his tone serious. "Instead of forcing a dry sketch, it's better to leave it until my drawing skills improve."
Qin Chuan wasn't lying; there was too much in Liu Rushi's eyes to be contained on a single sheet of paper.
Upon hearing this, Liu Rushi was taken aback, her eyes filled with surprise.
She remained silent for a while, then a layer of water suddenly welled up in her foxy eyes, suppressing some of the natural allure at the corners of her eyes and replacing it with a rare smile.
She lowered her eyes slightly and gently shook her head, as if sighing over something, or perhaps talking to herself: "I've met many people, and I've seen many who know how to praise others. But I've never met anyone who praises others like Manager Qin."
"I'm not praising you, I'm just stating the facts," Qin Chuan suddenly changed the subject: "I can't paint, but I can write."
"Write?" Liu Rushi's eyes immediately filled with curiosity.
"What are you standing there for? Grind the ink for me."
Qin Chuan pointed to the inkstone on the desk as a matter of course.
