"Sigh." Fukako sighed. It seemed that the only way she could prevent Rem from leaving was to stop Natsuhiko from playing the second male lead, Rem. So she compromised and said to Rem, "If Saku also agrees to play the male lead, that would be fine too."
Chapter Fifty-One: Theatrical Turmoil
Rem originally intended for Xia Yan to play the second male lead, and she thought he would agree immediately. However, unexpectedly, Xia Yan did not want to be the second male lead, and things did not go as Rem had hoped.
Not only that, but unexpectedly, Xia Yan became the third male lead, and the role of the third male lead was the one where he had scenes with Kaguya. This made Rem realize the saying that she tried to steal a chicken but lost the rice instead.
"Rem, do you really want me to be the second male lead? What's the difference between being the second male lead and the male lead or the third male lead?" Xia Yan himself didn't care about fame or fortune. He believed that he was fine with any role, as long as he could improve his acting skills.
Xia Yan looked at Rem and asked, only to find Rem hiding behind the bar.
A moment later, Rem came out and looked at Xia Yan, saying, "Isn't being the second male lead more memorable than being the third male lead? You see, the second male lead has more say and can make the audience remember you, while the third male lead only has a few lines by the end of the whole show."
Xia Yan knew, of course, that what Rem said couldn't be true and was just trying to fool him. Seeing that Rem wouldn't say anything more, Xia Yan had no choice but to leave.
On the way back to the dorm, Xia Yan kept thinking about Rem. Why was she always going against me? Women are so petty. Looks like I need to stay away from her.
"Mikoto, what are you doing? It's so late, I was just about to go home. Why did you drag me back to the stage?" Kaguya yelled at Mikoto.
It turns out that Kaguya was suddenly pulled back by Mikoto on her way back. Kaguya didn't know what to do along the way, so she just let Mikoto pull her along.
"Kaguya, this is not my intention. You are a smart person and should know whose intention this is. She wants you to practice properly so that you don't make mistakes later. This is for your own good. I am just a gofer."
Seeing Kaguya's sullen face, Fukako slowly explained, afraid that Kaguya would start arguing with him in a fit of anger.
At night, the bright moon shyly peeks at the tranquil world from behind soft, fluffy, and silken clouds, casting its pure light upon it. Its posture resembles a graceful young woman smiling down upon the earth.
Under the moonlight, Kaguya and Mikoto were practicing their play.
"Sigh, Mikoto, what kind of person is Rem? It seems like she can't stand to see others doing well. I really don't understand her. What about you? Do you know anything about her?" Kaguya chatted with Mikoto during a play rehearsal.
There are so many things Kaguya has wanted to ask, but she never has the chance during the day. She can't exactly talk about Rem in front of her, or Rem will definitely start arguing with her.
"Rem, I don't really know her either, but have you noticed that she's deliberately going against you? Did you do something to offend her?" Mikoto said helplessly.
Kaguya, seeing that Mikoto was also unsure, didn't press the matter. They began rehearsing the play meticulously.
The campus was unusually quiet, with hardly anyone in sight, except for a few people walking around the stage.
It was Shenqin and the others who were rehearsing the play.
It was late at night, and both Mikoto and Kaguya were exhausted. Kaguya said to Mikoto, "Have something to eat before you go back and rest. We have to continue rehearsing tomorrow."
Shenqin did not refuse, and smiled as she replied, "Okay, then I'll trouble you."
So the two of them walked back towards the dormitory together.
The next day, Kaguya and Mikoto got up together to have breakfast. When they arrived at the cafeteria, they saw it was packed with people. They casually ordered a box of porridge and some steamed buns and ate a little.
Chapter 52 Angry Rem
After they finished eating, they came to the stage and checked the time; they weren't late.
At nine o'clock sharp, everyone arrived at the stage.
Everyone greeted each other warmly: "Xia Yan, good morning! Did you sleep well last night?" Rem asked with a smile, looking at Xia Yan, who was wearing a white suit.
"I slept well last night, thank you," Xia Yan replied politely. Actually, Xia Yan didn't want to talk to her, but since she greeted him, he had no choice but to respond.
"Xia Yan, good morning! What are you doing?" Kaguya greeted them warmly as she walked towards them after seeing Xia Yan.
"Kaguya, we just got here and are just chatting. Have you eaten yet?" Xia Yan greeted Kaguya immediately upon seeing her, answering her in a very enthusiastic tone.
A moment later, a voice rang out from the stage. "Everyone, take a look at your scripts first. Get familiar with them, we'll discuss the scripts later, and you can ask me any questions you have." This was said by the person in charge of their drama.
Everyone looked at the script in their hands:
The boy, carrying his schoolbag in one hand and with his school uniform draped over his arm in the other, kicked open the classroom door. His classmates, A and B, were startled. They huddled together, pointing at the disheveled boy and whispering amongst themselves. The boy shuffled to his desk, threw his schoolbag on it, and plopped down in his chair.
Classmates A and B walked up to the male protagonist and placed the trash can in front of the table.
Student B: Classmate, the teacher taught us to be civilized and polite children. Although your kicking the door was very domineering, it was not civilized at all (emphasis).
Student A (speaking quickly): And another thing, your school uniform isn't worn properly, and your hat is crooked. It looks fashionable, but you look ridiculous.
Student B: What do you mean?
Everyone looked at the script; it seemed to be an environmentally friendly one. Rem asked Saku what he thought, suggesting that if he couldn't act out a certain part of the story, he shouldn't. This infuriated Saku.
"Whether I can act or not is none of your business. You should just keep an eye on yourself and not do anything stupid later," Shuoye replied with a grim expression.
The performance hasn't even started yet, and Rem is already saying she can't do it. How can we tolerate this? It's too much!
This immediately ignited Rem's anger, and she yelled at him, "I was just trying to be nice to you, and you turn around and criticize me! You're like a dog biting Lü Dongbin, not recognizing a kind heart!"
After saying that, Rem threw the script on the ground and turned to walk towards the dormitory building. This really angered Rem.
Shuo didn't care. Let her go. There's always someone else.
As everyone watched Rem leave, their eyes all turned to Xia Yan. Suddenly, Kaguya walked up to Xia Yan, looked at him, and said something.
"What kind of person is this? So hot-tempered. Does he really think he's some kind of big shot, like we all have to serve him? It's ridiculous. How can there still be people like this these days? He'll get what's coming to him sooner or later." Huiye said indignantly to Wen Xiayan.
Xia Yan felt helpless listening to Kaguya's words, but there was nothing he could do. Since the matter had already occurred, he could only look for a solution.
"Alright, alright, everyone disperse. Go do what you were doing and stop crowding around here," Xia Yan said, shooing away the onlookers.
Xia Yan was extremely frustrated. What was he going to do? Now Rem was gone too.
Chapter 53 The play is short of people
Hey hey hey... I'm telling you, everyone stop making a fuss like this. Can't we unite? Have you all forgotten why we're rehearsing this play?
After hearing Xia Yan's words, everyone finally stopped complaining and seemed to have some ideas.
So who will replace Rem in this role?
As soon as Kaguya finished speaking, someone took the manuscript.
May I try out this role?
She doesn't usually stand out and is always silent, seemingly having no presence at all.
Alright! Now everyone's here. Newcomers, please review your scripts. The rest of you, please rehearse your lines.
After saying that, Xia Yan walked to a corner below the stage. He sat down alone and lit a cigarette.
Kaguya noticed that something was wrong with Natsuhiko, put down the props she was holding, and jogged after him.
363 "Xia Yan, here you go"
A gentle voice rang out, and Kaguya walked over and handed her a bottle of water.
Xia Yan looked up at the sound and saw her smiling at him with her lips pursed.
You don't look too well today. What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Kaguya sat down next to Natsuhiko.
Xia Yan gulped down almost half a bottle of mineral water in one go, then placed the bottle on the ground.
"It's alright, it won't affect the rehearsal," he said, standing up and walking towards the rehearsal stage, where he straightened his clothes.
"Everyone, have you rested enough? We're about to start rehearsing. Let's make the most of our time and try to get it right in one take," the microphone rang out again on stage.
All departments worked together seamlessly, and everyone gave it their all. The group was fully prepared, reciting their lines and rehearsing their actions by heart. The first half of the performance went smoothly, but Xia Yan seemed to run into trouble in the second half…
Hey? Xia Yan, what's wrong with you? Get back to your usual self!
Yeah, I don't feel any strength at all.
I can't act with you like this.
Everyone complained about Xia Yan, but only Kaguya noticed that Xia Yan's face was pale and he was sweating profusely.
I said, everyone, please stop talking about Xia Yan...
"No, no, let's do it again!" Kaguya's words were interrupted by Natsuhiko before she could finish.
Helpless, Kaguya had no choice but to listen to Natsuhiko and try again.
Things weren't as simple as Xia Yan had imagined. Halfway through the performance, Xia Yan finally couldn't hold on any longer. Sweat dripped down his pale face, his brows furrowed, and he knelt on one knee, his whole body trembling uncontrollably.
Kaguya saw Natsuhiko kneeling on the ground and hurriedly tried to run over to help him up.
However, Shuo, who was standing next to him, had already helped Xia Yan up and accompanied him to the infirmary.
Watching them disappear into the distance, Kaguya felt a little disappointed.
Mikoto, standing to the side, said helplessly, "Now we really can't rehearse."
If you can't make it... then go home.
As luck would have it, Shirogane Miyuki's voice came from outside the door.
I said, you guys didn't even tell me you were rehearsing this, you really don't respect the lead actor!
Everyone turned to look at the unexpected guest, and a lively discussion began.
Xia Yan probably knew I was coming and probably quietly slipped away to make room for me!
"You really have self-awareness. I'll play his role. We can't keep wasting time, right?" Mikoto Shirogane Miyuki said with a very arrogant tone.
He never liked Xia Yan to begin with, so now that he had the chance, he was going to give him a piece of his mind.
"Xia Yan... he's probably just not feeling well. Maybe he'll be back after a few days of rest," Shenqin said softly.
Are you implying that I'm not up to the task of this role?
Shirogane Miyuki's tone became much more forceful, and his brows furrowed as he spoke to Fukako.
No, no, okay then... let's try again, hopefully this time there won't be any surprises.
Chapter Fifty-Four: Oh no, it's all ruined!
Shirogane Miyuki overestimated his abilities, constantly forgetting moves or mispronouncing lines during rehearsals, but he seemed unconcerned. Everyone secretly hoped Natsuhiko would return soon. After two more rehearsals...
Unable to contain his temper, Shirogane Miyuki grabbed a prop and threw it on the ground, saying angrily...
How am I supposed to act like this? Tell me, why are you telling me to leave? I'm not acting anymore!
After saying that, he slammed the door and left. Fortunately, everyone else's scenes were well-rehearsed, and they were just missing some minor details.
It's getting late.
Everyone gathered in small groups, preparing to leave the stage.
Kaguya took off her costume and prepared to go home. She glanced at the calendar; the 20th was her mother's birthday. "Phew~ finally finished filming! I can go home and celebrate with my mom." She looked at the custom-made cake and the watch her mother had always loved on her phone. She smiled contentedly.
