He stopped abruptly before he could finish speaking, his eyes widening like two copper bells.
Chu Hang took a deep breath, and the muscles in his arms instantly bulged, like gnarled old tree roots. A terrifying power far beyond that of ordinary people flowed from his waist and abdomen to his arms, and then exploded at his fingertips!
With a low roar, he unleashed his power, comparable to that of a peak human!
With a sickening metallic crunch, Chu Hang managed to pry open the bear trap, which even Gabe Jones couldn't break with a crowbar, inch by inch, using only his bare hands!
Gabe Jones stared in disbelief at the scene, his mouth agape, so wide it could fit an egg. He even forgot the excruciating pain in his leg. He had always thought Chu Hang was just a lucky Eastern kid with good marksmanship, but the power he was displaying now... this was simply beyond human capabilities!
With a final, sharp crack, the spring of the animal trap was pulled to its limit and locked in place.
Chu Hang released his grip, drenched in sweat and panting heavily. His arms ached terribly, almost dislocated. The force of that thing was greater than he had imagined.
"Quick, take your leg out!" he shouted to Gabe, who was still in a daze.
Gabu snapped out of his daze and hurriedly pulled his bloodied and mangled left leg out of the steel fangs.
The moment he pulled his leg out, Chu Hang lost his strength and let go. The two iron jaws snapped shut again with a loud bang, the sound echoing through the cave and sending chills down one's spine.
Gabu looked at his still-bleeding leg, then at the terrifying bear trap on the ground, and finally at Chu Hang, who was panting. His eyes were filled with gratitude and... awe.
"Chu...you..."
"Don't say so much yet," Chu Hang waved his hand and took out a first-aid kit from his backpack. "Let me treat your wound first. It's not safe here. We need to leave as soon as possible."
He tore open Gabu's trouser leg, and the deep, bone-revealing wounds made him gasp. He rinsed away the blood and grime with water, sprinkled on styptic powder, and then tightly wrapped it with bandages, layer upon layer.
After doing all that, he was exhausted and plopped down on the ground.
He took out the remaining half of a compressed biscuit and a water bottle from his backpack and handed them to Gabu: "Eat something first to replenish your energy."
Gabu didn't stand on ceremony and took the food, wolfing it down.
The cave was temporarily quiet, with only the sounds of the two chewing and panting.
The joy of surviving the ordeal did not last long; a more serious problem was placed before Chu Hang.
Gabe's leg injury was too severe; he can't even walk properly, let alone fight.
In his mind, the cooldown countdown for the [Super Copier] was clearly displayed—remaining time: 3 days and 3 hours.
He must find Captain America and "touch" him within three days.
Chu Hang glanced at Gabe Jones, who couldn't even stand up, and then at the bottomless darkness outside the cave.
Damn it, this is really bad.
The original single-player stealth survival mode has now been transformed into a two-player escort mode for the wounded, more than doubling the game's difficulty.
Chapter 11 The plan cannot keep up with the changes
Chu Hang looked at Gabe Jones, who was leaning against the rock wall beside him, his face as pale as paper, and felt a mix of emotions. It wasn't that he thought Gabe was a burden; after all, they were comrades-in-arms, and they had just been sharing chocolates on the plane. He couldn't bring himself to leave Gabe to die.
What annoyed him was that this matter had completely messed up his already unreliable plans.
“Chu…you…” Gabe Jones was clearly still recovering from the shock he had just experienced. He looked at Chu Hang with gratitude in his eyes, but more than that, he looked at him with astonishment and bewilderment as if he were looking at a monster.
"What's with that strength of yours? I swear, I used all my strength with the crowbar just now, and it didn't budge an inch."
They came, and as expected, they asked.
Chu Hang sighed inwardly, but his face remained expressionless. He couldn't very well say, "Dude, I've got a cheat code! I copied the self-healing factor, and even my strength has increased!"
As he packed up the first-aid kit, he casually said in a half-joking, half-serious tone, "I don't know either."
Maybe it's because I was bombarded so much on the battlefield before, and something's gotten wrong in my head. Anyway, sometimes I feel like I have inexhaustible energy, but other times I'm just like a normal person. It's inconsistent, depending on luck.
This ambiguous statement was the best excuse he could think of at the moment. It explained his extraordinary power while leaving himself enough room for maneuver.
If you don't perform as well one day in the future, you can excuse it by saying, "I was unlucky today, it didn't work."
Gabe Jones nodded, seemingly understanding, though he found the explanation a bit far-fetched. But war is a place where the impossible can become possible.
He had seen people who survived being shot through the heart, and he had also seen tough guys who were so terrified that they became mentally impaired.
Compared to these things, it doesn't seem so hard to accept that someone suddenly becomes much stronger.
He struggled to stand up, but as soon as he put his left leg down, a piercing pain made him groan and sit back down heavily, a fine layer of cold sweat instantly appearing on his forehead.
"Don't move!" Chu Hang quickly pressed him down. "Your wound is too deep. Although it didn't break the bone, the muscles and blood vessels are torn."
If you move around any more, the bleeding that just stopped will start again.
“But we can’t stay here forever,” Gabe said, panting, his face filled with anxiety. “The Hydra patrol could be back at any moment, and… the captain and the others are waiting for us.”
He's right. This cave may be safe for now, but it's definitely not a place to stay for long. That animal trap is the best proof; this place is very likely a trap zone set by some hunter or German soldiers.
Chu Hang spread the captured map out on the ground again and studied it carefully by the dim light of the kerosene lamp.
“Look,” he pointed to a point on the map, “we’re roughly in this location now. This is where several patrol routes intersect. Although we just dodged one wave, they will definitely conduct a more thorough search after daybreak, and it’s only a matter of time before we are discovered.”
Gabu also came closer to look, his expression growing even more serious. The dense dotted lines on the map resembled a giant spider web, and they were like two small flying insects trapped within it.
"Then what should we do?"
"We must leave, and we must get as far away from this area as possible before dawn." Chu Hang's tone left no room for argument.
He moved his finger slowly across the map, his mind racing.
What he needed to do was find the safest path to the factory's perimeter within this network of death.
His finger finally stopped on an area in the northeast corner of the map, where a simple wooden cabin icon was drawn, with the German words "Jagerhütte" next to it, meaning hunter's cabin.
“Here.” Chu Hang pointed to the small wooden house. “Look, this place is far from all the main patrol routes, and the surrounding terrain is quite complex. It’s an ideal hiding place. Let’s go here first so you can recover from your injuries, and at the same time, we can observe the movements at the factory before deciding on our next move.”
The plan sounded reasonable, but Gabe looked at his useless leg and smiled bitterly: "The plan is good, but Chu, I'll only be a burden to you like this."
"Or you could hide me here, leave me some food and water, and you can go on your own. You're stronger than me, you have a better chance."
Chu Hang raised his head and glanced at him. His eyes were calm, but they carried an undeniable firmness.
"Don't talk nonsense. I don't have a rule against abandoning my teammates."
In his past life, he was a selfish corporate slave who always sought to maximize his own interests.
But for some reason, after coming to this damned world, experiencing gunfire, and witnessing death, something cold in his heart seemed to be slowly melting.
Perhaps it was Logan's "Kid, you're just my type," or Dugan's "Welcome to the team," or perhaps it was seeing Captain America's almost naive persistence.
He found himself starting to think like a real soldier.
Gabe Jones stared into Chu Hang's eyes, stunned. He saw something very familiar in those dark pupils—a light that could only be seen in Captain Steve Rogers' eyes.
He nodded heavily, said nothing more, and simply hugged his M1 carbine tightly to his chest.
"Okay, let's go!"
You can just pack up and go, but figuring out how to get there is a big problem.
Chu Hang tried to put Gabu's arm around his neck and have him hop on one leg. But after only two steps, Gabu broke out in a cold sweat from the pain and almost fainted on the spot. The wound on his leg was too severe; the vibration from each hop felt like a knife was cutting into his flesh.
"No, we can't go very far like this, or your wound will get infected again." Chu Hang stopped, his brows furrowed.
Carrying him on his back? That's even worse. The mountain path is rugged and the snow is slippery. Even Chu Hang wouldn't be able to go very far carrying a strong man weighing 170 or 180 pounds, and he would be too conspicuous.
There must be a way.
Chu Hang's gaze swept back and forth in the cave, finally landing on the bushes he had parted at the cave entrance.
His eyes lit up—he'd got it!
He walked to the cave entrance, selected two of the strongest and most resilient trunks from the thick bushes, and chopped them down with his military knife. Then, he took out all the spare ropes and bandages from his backpack and got to work.
Gabe looked at him curiously, wondering what he was going to do.
Chu Hang placed two thick tree trunks parallel to each other on the ground, then used shorter branches as crossbeams and tied them together securely with rope, creating a simple frame. Next, he took off his military overcoat, laid it on the frame, and secured it with rope.
A simple but sturdy-looking snow trailer was thus created.
"My God..." Gabe stared in disbelief. "Chu, what's wrong with your brain?"
"Stop talking nonsense and get up and lie down." Chu Hang wiped the sweat from his forehead and urged.
Gabe carefully lay down on it. Although it was a little uncomfortable, it was like heaven compared to hopping on one leg.
Chu Hang wrapped the tow rope around himself a few times and tried to pull it forward. It was heavy, but with his abnormal strength, the tow truck still glided steadily on the snow.
"Done, let's go!"
Just as they were about to leave the temporary shelter, Chu Hang's nose suddenly twitched.
He smelled a faint, slightly spicy herbal scent.
He stopped and, by the light of the kerosene lamp, carefully searched the crevices in the rock walls near the cave entrance. Soon, he found several green plants with thick leaves and serrated edges among a clump of inconspicuous weeds.
"This is..." He plucked a leaf, smelled it, and then chewed it. A bitter and spicy taste exploded on his tongue, but then a cool sensation spread.
He remembered! In his past life, he watched a documentary about wilderness survival that mentioned a plant that grows in the Alps called "Arnica". Local hunters use it to treat bruises and sprains, as it has a strong effect of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, reducing inflammation and relieving pain.
This thing in front of me looks exactly like the arnica in the documentary!
There's always a way out!
He immediately picked a large handful, returned to the cave, and crushed them into a dark green paste using two stones.
"What are you doing?" Gabe looked at the sticky, smelly thing with a wary expression.
"Good stuff, bear with it." Without saying a word, Chu Hang untied the bandages on Gabu's leg and applied the cold medicinal paste thickly to his bloody wound.
"Ow—!"
An indescribable, spicy and cool sensation instantly spread throughout Gabe's body, causing him to howl in pain and jump up.
"Don't move!" Chu Hang held him down firmly. "Good medicine tastes bitter. If you don't want your leg to be crippled, you'd better stay put!"
Strangely, the intense stinging pain lasted for less than a minute before being quickly replaced by a cool and comfortable sensation. Gabu could clearly feel the burning pain at the wound site diminishing at an astonishing rate, replaced by a tingling, numb sensation, as if countless tiny ants were crawling on it.
He tried moving his toes and found that the excruciating pain had lessened by about 70-80%.
"My God..." Gabe looked at the green paste on his leg, then at Chu Hang, his eyes filled with more than just awe; it was as if he were looking at an omnipotent wizard. "Chu, just how many more abilities do you have that we don't know about?"
Chu Hang smiled, re-bandaged him with clean bandages, and said, "A qualified soldier should know some life-saving chores, shouldn't he?"
But in his heart he was thinking, "Knowledge is power, that's a damn profound truth."
With everything ready, Chu Hang blew out the kerosene lamp, settled Gabu on the trailer, then pulled the rope, dragging his comrade slowly out of the cave and disappeared into the vast night.
