He has only one goal.
The dark golden spider king clearly sensed the danger. A dozen or so larger, more heavily armored guard spiders immediately stood in front of it.
At the same time, the Spider King's back armor cracked open, revealing a dark cannon muzzle, where a dangerous red light was gathering.
Alarm bells rang in Chu Hang's mind, but he did not slow down.
This is your only chance.
With a flick of his wrist, he threw a detonated M24 grenade precisely at the feet of the guarding spiders.
The explosion knocked over several spiders, throwing their formation into disarray.
It’s this gap!
Chu Hang's figure flashed past in the smoke and dust of the explosion.
He could feel the burning sensation on his skin when the energy cannon locked onto him.
He had already rushed to the Spider King just before the energy cannon was fired.
The Spider King clearly hadn't expected him to be so fast, and decisively abandoned charging up his energy. His eight spear-like limbs stabbed fiercely at Chu Hang from all directions!
Chu Hang twisted his body forcefully in mid-air, his entire spine driving his body in an unbelievable dodge. Eight segmented limbs grazed his clothes, narrowly missing their mark.
Using the momentum from twisting his body, he spun like a top, his right leg swinging in a semi-circle in the air, his heel pointed straight, aimed at the Spider King's huge, red-glowing single eye.
He poured all his strength into that kick.
"broken!!!"
A dull, suppressed thud.
A crack appeared on the Spider King's hard, single eye.
Immediately afterwards, the cracks spread like a spider web within a hundredth of a second!
Click——! ! !
A crisp cracking sound echoed across the battlefield.
That single eye went out.
The massive, dark golden spider king's body stiffened abruptly, and its eight raised limbs drooped limply.
Chu Hang did a backflip and landed steadily on the ground, shaking his slightly numb right foot.
"It's fucking hard," he cursed.
An eerie silence fell over the battlefield.
Then, the mechanical spiders that had been attacking frantically suddenly stopped, as if their power had been cut off. The red lights above their heads began to flash erratically; some spun around in place, while others even began attacking their own kind.
A few seconds later, with a series of rapid crackling sounds, all the sensors on the mechanical spiders went dark one by one.
They all turned into piles of scrap metal.
The battle is over.
The cell was deathly silent.
All the surviving soldiers stared in disbelief at the scene before them, their gazes finally focusing on the man standing in the center of the scrap metal.
Steve, panting heavily, caught the returning shield. He watched Chu Hang's retreating figure with a complex expression.
Logan crawled out from a pile of spider remains, spat out the extinguished cigar butt from his mouth with a "pui," grinned, revealing a set of white teeth, and laughed silently.
That kid's got guts.
However, just when everyone thought the crisis was over—
A deep humming sound suddenly resounded throughout the underground space without warning.
Immediately afterwards, a cold, synthesized electronic voice was broadcast to everyone's ears through the broadcast system.
"Warning. The 'nest' has been breached. Highest level command issued."
"Activate...the final purification plan."
"The base will self-destruct completely in three minutes."
"Countdown begins... 2:59... 2:58..."
The chilling countdown, like a death knell, echoed in the ears of every survivor.
Chapter 42 Price
"Everyone, take out the explosives!"
Steve Rogers' voice was like a slap in the face to every surviving soldier.
The soldiers, who had been lying on the ground waiting to die, seemed to be awakened and subconsciously began to rummage through their backpacks and unfasten their tactical vests.
Chunks of C4 explosives were pulled out and piled up at Steve's feet, quickly forming a small mountain.
A veteran, his face covered in soot, lunged at Steve and grabbed his arm tightly. It was Falsworth, the demolition expert from the Howling Commandos.
His eyes were bloodshot, and his voice was hoarse: "Are you crazy?! Using such a large amount of explosive force here, are you trying to bury us all alive? It will definitely cause a secondary collapse!"
The others realized as well. To carry out a blast underground in an unstable environment was suicide.
Steve didn't turn around; he just stared at the pile of concrete and steel rubble in front of him.
“Falsworth,” his voice was calm, “how long can we live if we do nothing?”
Farsworth opened his mouth, but couldn't say a word.
On the wall, the red countdown is the answer: 0:58... 0:57...
“In less than a minute, we’ll be blown to smithereens.” Steve turned around, his gaze sweeping across the faces of each soldier. “We might gamble and be buried alive. But at least we have a chance to dig a way out with our hands.”
His gaze swept across the corner. Logan was holding the unconscious Chu Hang in his arms.
Just now, Steve saw it when the boulder crashed down. He saw the ripples in the air that distorted the air in front of Chu Hang.
That's not an illusion.
It was a power he couldn't comprehend.
Dr. Erskine said that the serum amplifies everything. It amplified his own sense of justice, and it also amplified Red Skull's ambition.
What did the serum amplify in Chu Hang's body?
Steve didn't know. But he knew miracles existed. Now, he was going to recreate a miracle in a mortal way.
“Falsworth, I need a demolition plan!” Steve’s tone left no room for argument. “Find the load-bearing points, use the least amount of explosives, and cause the greatest structural damage. We’re not going to blow it open, we’re going to let it fall apart on its own!”
Farsworth stared into the captain's eyes for three seconds.
He gritted his teeth, spat out a mouthful of blood, and grabbed all the explosives on the ground, pulling them into his arms: "Get out of the way! Five men, shine flashlights on those spots! Quickly!"
The will to survive overcame the fear.
Several soldiers immediately sprang into action, placing the explosives at several key structural connection points in the ruins in the manner specified by Falsworth, and quickly connecting the detonators.
"Captain, all set!" Failsworth ran back, covered in sweat. "The detonation time was set to twenty seconds, enough time for us to find cover!"
The countdown on the wall: 0:35... 0:34...
“It’s too late.” Steve shook his head. “Ten seconds. In ten seconds, everyone take cover, I’ll detonate it.”
"But captain..."
"Excuting an order!"
Steve snatched the detonator from his hand and strode to the front of the line.
Logan carried Chu Hang and retreated silently to the furthest corner of the wall. He used his body to shield Chu Hang tightly behind him.
Steve started the countdown.
The soldiers scrambled and crawled in search of cover.
Steve took a deep breath and held the vibranium shield in front of him.
He glanced back at his soldiers.
He pressed the button.
The world was quiet for a moment.
Then, a burst of fire exploded inside the ruins.
The shockwave, carrying debris and steel bars, swept in from all directions.
Steve was the first to be hit. The immense force traveled through his body via his shield, and he felt as if he had been struck head-on by a speeding truck.
His feet dug two deep furrows in the ground, and he was pushed backward for more than ten meters before slamming hard against the wall.
He spat out a mouthful of blood.
Behind him, the entire underground space began to collapse completely. Large chunks of ceiling fell, and cracks appeared in the ground.
But at the epicenter of the explosion, the pile of rubble that had blocked the way actually disintegrated from the inside. A black hole, big enough for one person to pass through, appeared.
Steve used his shield to deflect a falling rock and roared.
The countdown on the wall: 0:10... 0:09...
The soldiers helped each other up and scrambled toward the cave entrance.
Logan carried Chu Hang and charged ahead, using his body to smash through the rubble blocking their path.
Steve stayed behind, wielding his shield to knock away the rocks that kept falling from above, clearing a path for the team.
A huge roof beam crashed down on a lame soldier.
Steve's arm muscles bulged, and the shield in his hand shot out with a whoosh.
The shield struck the side of the beam precisely, deflecting it and sending it grazing the soldier before crashing to the ground. The shield bounced off the wall and flew back into Steve's hand.
"Hurry! Five seconds left!"
Logan was the first to carry Chu Hang out of the cave.
Then, the second, the third...
