Thirdly, his mastery of energy weapons is even more useless, since he himself is the strongest energy weapon.
His gaze finally settled on the fourth option.
This thing looks unremarkable, unlike the Binary Form which can destroy the world, or the Healing Factor which can extend life indefinitely. But Chu Hang knows very well that the later the game goes, the more bizarre the enemies he will face will be.
Loki's scepter, Scarlet Witch's chaos magic, and all sorts of bizarre mental attacks, illusions, and mind control in the future universe... No matter how strong your physical defense is, it can't stop these things.
Although his willpower has become very strong due to the enhancement of the Super Soldier Serum, it is only a tenacious "attribute" and has not formed a "capability" that can actively defend itself.
This [Willpower Barrier] can perfectly make up for his biggest weakness: mental defense.
This is insurance, a talisman against unknown and bizarre attacks.
"That's it."
Chu Hang made a decision in his heart.
[Confirm Selection: Copying Ability - Willpower Barrier (Rank A)]
[Capability replication in progress... 1%... 50%... 99%...]
[Copy successful.]
A cool, solid sensation instantly flooded his mind. His consciousness seemed to be encased in an invisible, solid barrier made of pure willpower. The entire world, in his perception, seemed to become clearer and more real, without any illusion or fog.
Chu Hang opened his eyes and glanced at Carol, who was still trying to calm herself down.
New loot acquired.
Next, it's time to train this future Captain Marvel.
Chapter 73 Being a mentor is no easy job.
The next day, the sun had just peeked over the horizon, and the air was still cool with dew.
Chu Hang called Carol to the open space behind the house. Maria and Monica didn't come out; they watched from afar through the kitchen window.
"Your problem isn't a lack of power," Chu Hang said bluntly, his words devoid of any warmth. "It's that your mind is too chaotic. Your joys and sorrows are all connected to the switch of energy. When you're happy, it overflows; when you're angry, it goes out of control. This isn't called controlling power; this is called being manipulated by power like a puppet."
Carol frowned, her lips pressed into a thin line, and remained silent. She knew Chu Hang was right. These past few days, if she got even slightly agitated, the light bulbs in the house would flicker, the television would display static, as if her body had become a giant electromagnetic interference device.
"Okay."
Chu Hang extended his right index finger. A golden light emanated from the tip of his finger.
The light was tiny, smaller than a firefly, but frighteningly stable. It hovered quietly half an inch in front of my fingertip, neither flickering nor wobbling, like a miniature sun embedded in transparent amber.
Carroll held her breath.
Then, that point of light started moving.
First, it stretches into a cube with sides less than a centimeter long, each corner as sharp as if measured with a ruler. Then, the cube's edges begin to melt, smoothly transitioning into a perfect sphere with a mirror-like surface. Finally, the top and bottom ends of the sphere extend outwards and flatten, transforming into a miniature butterfly poised to take flight.
The golden patterns on the wings were clearly visible in the morning light, and even the fine veins could be seen.
The entire process was eerily quiet. Not a single ounce of energy was leaked, not a single ray of light spread. The surrounding air was completely still, without even a ripple.
Carol stared, her eyes wide with astonishment. She could also unleash energy, but her energy was like a torrent, sweeping across everything in its path, devastating even herself. Chu Hang's energy, however, seemed to her like a surgeon's scalpel—precise, calm, and frighteningly stable.
“Your energy is like a barrel of gasoline; you just pour it all out, set it on fire, and watch the flames rage.” Chu Hang withdrew his finger, and the golden butterfly vanished silently into the air, leaving not a trace. “But mine is like gasoline in an engine. I can make it fast or slow as I please. The difference is that you drive with your emotions, I drive with my brain.”
He tapped his temple.
“Willpower,” Chu Hang uttered two words. “You have to learn to control it with your will, instead of being dragged along by its instincts. Forget those combat techniques, forget that garbage the Kree taught you. From now on, learn to ‘feel’ it, and then ‘command’ it.”
"How do we do it?" Carol's voice was a little dry.
“Let’s start by calming down.” Chu Hang pointed to the back of her neck. “That suppressor is like a tap that’s half-turned off. It limits your flow and distorts your perception. But it also gives you a chance to learn how to control the valve when the flow isn’t so strong.”
Over the next few days, Chu Hang didn't teach any moves or explain any theories.
He simply had Carol sit cross-legged on the grass, close her eyes, and feel the energy flowing through her body like a golden river.
On the first day, Carol couldn't sit still at all.
The moment she closed her eyes, all she could see in her mind was the city of Hala, Yon Roger's hypocritical face, and the six years of her life that had been stolen from her. Anger, a sense of betrayal, and confusion churned in her consciousness like a pot of boiling water. Her energy surged violently with her emotions, rampaging through her body, giving her splitting headaches, and several times she almost couldn't resist setting the house on fire.
“Anger and hatred are both part of power. Don’t suppress it, and don’t indulge it.” Chu Hang’s voice was like a cold probe, piercing her mind precisely from several meters away. “Look at it like you’re looking at a dog barking at your feet. You know it’s there, but it can’t bite you unless you allow it.”
Chu Hang himself also closed his eyes. The newly acquired [Willpower Barrier] had transformed his mental world into an impregnable fortress. He could easily project his willpower outwards, like a thin, invisible soundproof shield enveloping Carol's consciousness. He didn't interfere, but simply shielded her from some of the most violent emotional interference, allowing her a relatively quiet environment for "introspection."
Carol, of course, knew none of this. She only felt that, after Chu Hang's cold prompting, the boiling water in her mind seemed to have cooled down a bit.
She began to try not to fight the anger, but to be like an observer, watching it churn and roar in her consciousness, and then, little by little, subside.
This process is difficult. It's like watching someone else go crazy inside your own head.
But slowly, Carroll found his rhythm.
On the fourth day, she was able to decouple her emotions and energy fluctuations for one minute.
On the seventh day, she successfully made a small beam of golden light linger on her fingertip for three seconds. Although the light was still trembling slightly, like a candle flame in the wind, it was no longer about to explode out of control.
"The time has come."
Chu Hang looked at the faint light at her fingertips and finally nodded.
He led Carol to a more open wasteland, several kilometers away from Maria's house. There was nothing there but sand and sparse shrubs.
"Remove that suppressor yourself," Chu Hang said.
“Me?” Carol was stunned. “I don’t know how…”
“Use your energy,” Chu Hang interrupted her. “It’s connected to your central nervous system. If you try to pull it apart with brute force, you might become paralyzed. You have to use your energy, like the finest scalpel, to sever those connections one by one. This is your graduation exam. If you fail, you’ll spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair.”
His words contained no encouragement whatsoever, only the cold reality.
Carol took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
She could clearly "see" the cold metal plate, like a blood-sucking mechanical leech, firmly rooted in her body. Countless energy lines, thinner than spider silk, extended from it, like plant roots, wrapping around her spinal nerves, drawing power from her, and sending wrong signals to her brain.
She mobilized the energy within her body and carefully condensed it into an energy needle thinner than a hair.
Sweat seeped from her forehead, quickly soaking her golden hair.
This is an extremely delicate task. A slight misalignment of the energy needle could sever vital nerves. A slightly excessive energy output could burn away an entire area of tissue.
Time passed by minute by minute.
Chu Hang stood a few dozen meters away, hands in his pockets, calmly watching. He did nothing, simply using his willpower to create an invisible "safety net" with a radius of one kilometer around them. He could feel the immense energy accumulating within Carol, like a volcano poised to erupt at any moment. What he needed to do was ensure that even if the volcano erupted, the lava wouldn't spread to other areas.
Finally, amidst excruciating pain that felt like her mind was being torn apart, Carol suddenly opened her eyes.
Beneath the skin of her neck, the metal plate made one last faint "click" sound.
All connections have been cut off.
After a second of deathly silence.
It was as if the singularity of the Big Bang had been detonated in an instant.
An immense energy, which had been suppressed for six years and was beyond description, erupted from Carol's body!
No longer a gentle golden halo, it transformed into a pure, destructive white pillar of light, shooting into the sky like a sword of creation, tearing through the clouds and leaving a huge, dark hole in the azure sky, with golden flames burning at its edges.
A violent energy storm swept outwards from her center, scraping away layers of the ground. Grass, soil, and rocks were vaporized the moment they came into contact with the storm, leaving behind a continuously expanding, vitrified circular crater.
"what--!"
Carol collapsed to her knees in agony, clutching her head and letting out a piercing scream that was almost inhuman.
This force is too immense.
She felt like a balloon about to burst, every cell in her body being stretched and torn apart by endless energy. She could no longer hear, no longer see. Her senses were replaced by a pure torrent of energy. She "saw" the universe, the birth and destruction of stars, the flow of time, and countless versions of herself in parallel worlds.
Millions of years of information and images flooded into her mind in an instant, almost completely overwhelming and crushing her consciousness.
For the first time, she felt a deep-seated fear of the power within her body.
She feared she would become a monster, a mindless, destructive aggregate of energy.
"what--!"
She roared uncontrollably, and golden-white energy surged outwards like a tsunami, aimlessly crashing in all directions.
Just then, Chu Hang made a move.
He traversed dozens of meters in a single step, appearing before Carol. Amidst the devastating energy storm, he strolled leisurely, as if merely walking in a gentle breeze. The violent energy automatically parted to either side when it approached within a meter of his body, creating an absolute vacuum.
He reached out and placed his hand on Carroll's head.
"look at me."
His voice wasn't loud, but it was like a thunderclap that transcended time and space, exploding loudly in Carol's chaotic sea of consciousness.
Carroll struggled to lift her head and saw his eyes.
What kind of eyes were those? Calm, deep, like the night sky encompassing the entire starry heavens. In those eyes, she saw her own fear, her own anger, her own confusion. But these turbulent emotions were merely specks of dust in this starry sky, insignificant, powerless, and powerless.
"The essence of power is neither creation nor destruction. It is simply itself; it merely exists." Chu Hang's voice, carrying an undeniable authority, penetrated directly into the depths of her soul. "You fear it because you still see yourself as a weak human being. You hate the Kree because you still view yourself through the lens of the past."
"Forget the soldier named Firth, and forget the pilot named Carol."
"From this moment on, you are you. A life form with the power of a star."
"Now, stand up. Embrace it, take control of it. Let it know who the master is."
Chu Hang's words were like a key, unlocking the last shackle in Carol's heart.
The past is no longer important.
The important thing is the present and the future.
She slowly rose from the glassy ground. She let the immense power surge within her, like riding a wild horse. She no longer resisted, no longer feared. She opened her arms, as if embracing a long-lost friend.
The fear and confusion in her eyes gradually faded, replaced by an unprecedented firmness and confidence.
The towering pillar of light began to recede, and the raging energy storm gradually subsided. The golden-white light was no longer so dazzling, but became soft and restrained, like a magnificent feather robe woven from starlight draped over her.
She slowly rose into the air, her feet leaving the ground, and hovered in mid-air.
At this moment, she was no longer a Kree weapon, nor an Earth pilot.
She is Captain Marvel.
Chu Hang stood below, looking at the figure bathed in starlight, and nodded in satisfaction.
