Chapter 49 Mr. C
Chapter 49 Mr. C
The following morning, on Queen's Road, at Earl Hall's mansion.
As usual, Audrey came to the restaurant for breakfast.
Having finished breakfast, Earl Hall's eldest son, Hilbert, who was reading the newspaper, chuckled, "The Backlund police have finally done something useful."
Audrey asked curiously, "Did you solve an important case?"
"Yes, and it's a spy case," Hilbert replied. "Last night, the police received important intelligence from an informant that a military attaché, suspected to be from the Fussac Empire, had made contact with a gang leader in the Bridge District."
"Deputy Chief Isaacs, who was on duty at the police station, reacted quickly and caught the embassy military attaché in the act of dealing with the gang leader."
"A fierce firefight ensued, and the gang leader and the military officer were killed on the spot."
"According to the testimonies of several arrested gang members, this was not their first deal or secret meeting."
Hibbert smiled and said, "Solving such a case at such a crucial time deserves a medal for Isaacs."
Count Hall said, "Don't make your own judgment yet, Hilbert."
"Perhaps there are some hidden details to this matter. This happens frequently, and the information in the newspapers is not necessarily accurate."
Hippel immediately replied, "Yes, Father."
Audrey, however, was more concerned with: "Which gang in Bridges is it?"
"Let me see." Hilbert searched for a moment. "Oh, it's the Stinger Gang. Hmm, but this gang was also wiped out by the police. It's said that all the important members of the Stinger Gang were either captured or killed."
Audrey breathed a sigh of relief; at least they weren't the Mafia. Then she smiled and said, "That's a rather strange name."
……
The headquarters of the Mafia.
Raphael was talking to two key members of the Stingers, both of whom were Sequence 9 Beyonders: one was a Hunter and the other an Assassin.
Raphael made it very clear in his letter to them last night that he wanted to join forces with the police to eliminate the Stinger Gang.
Even if they survive this battle, the Stingers are gone, and they will find it difficult to maintain their current status.
Why not join the Mafia? They're the leaders of the gang, and they'll give them even more territory than they have now.
The condition for joining the Mafia was that they needed to provide several "witnesses" to prove that Kent had frequent contact with some staff members of the Furst Empire Embassy.
Thus, Isaacs obtained the witnesses he wanted, and with the physical evidence such as Petrov's body, the "espionage case" was completely confirmed.
Raphael kept his promise and gave some of the newly seized Stinger gang territory to the two Sequence 9s, officially making them the leaders of the Mafia.
However, Raphael assigned them a deputy and would often give them tasks.
After dealing with the aftermath of the "Stinger Gang," Raphael wrote a letter to Audrey, asking if she could help him deal with an extraordinary "werewolf" trait.
There's no use for him keeping this item; he might as well get rid of it through Audrey's channels.
He had considered handling it himself, but that would likely allow the "hedonistic faction" to find him through this characteristic, which would be counterproductive.
If it were handled by Miss Audrey, it would likely end up in the hands of the "Temperance Faction," because the "Temperance Faction" has a partnership with the organization behind Miss Audrey, and the "Temperance Faction" would most likely not investigate the origin of the characteristic.
At the end of the letter, Raphael requested a magical item with control-like abilities.
In recent battles, Raphael realized that if he had a magical item with a control-type ability, then with his current power, even killing a Sequence 6 wouldn't be too difficult.
He had this thought because he recalled his previous battle with "Werewolf" Beven and the help the girl had given him yesterday.
In the battle with Bevan, Miss Susie hypnotized him, and the "werewolf" was killed before he could even react.
Yesterday's battle was extremely difficult for Raphael, and the burns he suffered in the fight have not yet fully healed. However, things became much easier after the girl started to offer assistance. After subduing the opponent, Raphael used his werewolf agility to continuously injure his target.
A magical item that can control enemies is also useful in Sequence 6 "The Undead," since this sequence does not have the ability to control targets.
The Extraordinary gatherings Raphael had attended before were mainly attended by low-sequence Extraordinary individuals, so they certainly didn't offer what he wanted.
Miss Audrey's organization has demigods and so many "middle-sequence" extraordinary individuals. This channel is obviously much more advanced, and the probability of successfully obtaining such magical items is much greater.
After sealing the letter, Raphael had his men deliver it to 33 Queen's Road.
As evening fell, Wagner arrived at the Mafia headquarters by carriage. The two had arranged to meet beforehand, and after a brief chat, Raphael followed Wagner into the carriage.
Wagner's head was still wrapped in bandages, and one arm was in a sling, clearly indicating that last night's battle had left him seriously injured.
However, he had no complaints, because although Raphael was the one who ultimately dealt with Kent, Raphael, in accordance with his previous promise, relinquished the right to share Kent's extraordinary ability, so that ability became Wagner's spoils.
The "Hunter" trait is quite "hot-selling," and a Sequence 8 trait can easily sell for £600.
Wagner's furniture business wasn't large, and this unexpected £600 was enough to make him happy for days.
The carriage moved forward at a leisurely pace, leaving the city as night fell, and finally stopped in front of a small oil pressing workshop on the outskirts of the city.
Wagner got out of the car and knocked on the door. The person inside opened a small window in the door and let them in only after seeing that it was Wagner.
Upon entering, the first thing that catches the eye is a large oil pressing machine. This machine looks very old and is driven by a small steam engine, but it has stopped operating at this time.
Bypassing the machinery, we entered a small room through a door. Inside, a gloomy-faced man was smoking. He glanced at Wagner, then scrutinized Raphael.
The other person's eyes suddenly became deep and dark, and Raphael felt as if all his secrets could be seen through by the other person.
The man stared at him for a good ten seconds before saying, "Come with me."
Raphael followed the other person to another room and then opened the wooden door to the basement.
In the basement, Mr. C, dressed in a bishop's robe, was already waiting.
Tonight we will be holding Raphael's induction ceremony into the Aurora Society.
