Chapter 41 Pressure on the Military
Chapter 41 Pressure on the Military
Tony stared at the Holy Lord and burst out laughing uncontrollably.
"Angel."
Tony repeated the word: "Do you think I'm an idiot? Heaven sent an angel down, and the angel infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. and I have to draw blood for research?"
The Holy Lord's expression remained unchanged: "You need evidence, and I have already given you an explanation."
Tony leaned back in his chair and downed his drink in one gulp: "You just told a story. There's nothing sacred about your blood that I find divine."
Seeing that Shendu's light shone even brighter in his eyes, Tony stopped pretending. He took out a small device from his pocket and placed it on the table. Shendu could sense his presence inside the device.
"Don't bother. This is a filter made from a substance extracted from your blood. It can make me somewhat immune to mental interference. Stop trying to play tricks, Mr. Valon."
The Holy Lord's expression remained unchanged: "You used my blood to do this? That's a good idea, but why didn't you expose me to Fury?"
Tony waved his hand: "I've said before that I have no good feelings towards S.H.I.E.L.D. anymore. Helping Fury against you won't do me any good, especially since we were cooperating back then."
Tony paused for a moment: "Of course, and still now, we have a common enemy."
Tony pointed out the bar window, towards S.H.I.E.L.D.: "Furry has gone mad."
S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.
Fury was in his office, with three files spread out on his desk.
Complete information on the three military colonels, including their home addresses, daily schedules, weaknesses, and any leverage they could have.
"General Ross has become obsessed with the Hulk project."
Fury pointed to a file: "His daughter's relationship with Banner can be a breakthrough."
Agent Hill stood to the side, his expression grave: "Director, taking action against high-ranking military officials exceeds S.H.I.E.L.D.'s authority."
Fury looked up at Hill, who felt a chill run down her spine: "Authorization? S.H.I.E.L.D.'s authorization exists to deal with threats. Now that the military is unwilling to cooperate with us, they are the threat."
"But Chief..." Hill tried to speak.
"That's enough!"
Fury said, "I understand your concerns, but these are critical moments. Go out first and call Coulson over."
Hill hesitated for a moment, then turned and left, exchanging a glance with Coulson as she exited the office.
"Chief, you wanted to see me?" Coulson stood respectfully in front of Fury.
Fury looked at Coulson and said, "Do you think my current actions are too aggressive, or even wrong?"
Coulson kept his head down, seemingly lost in thought, and did not answer Fury's question.
Fury stood up and walked over to Cole: "It's normal that you don't understand. With your limited perspective, you can't see the deployment as I see it."
"Hill, even Steve and Natasha think my current behavior is too radical, but do you know what radical means?"
"You've already experienced Loki leading the Chitauri to invade Earth. Faced with threats from the universe, those generals lying around in the military industry did nothing, and that was the biggest mistake."
Coulson lowered his head: "I understand your concerns, Chief."
No, you don't understand, you don't understand at all.
Fury patted Coulson on the shoulder: "The general's affairs are minor matters. The key is that we repelled the invaders, and that was achieved through individual combat strength."
"Their great power is not guaranteed, and that is the greatest threat."
Coulson lowered his head, and at that moment he could clearly feel the wildness in Fury's words and his desire to control everything.
"Do you know what's the most ridiculous thing?" Fury no longer hid his tone: "The most ridiculous thing is that I can only control a dragon named Valmont, who came from another world."
"Coulson," Fury said, handing him a tablet. "I have a task for you to do."
Coulson took the tablet, frowned slightly as he looked at the contents, and said, "This requires access to the military's core database."
After Coulson left, Fury turned on his communicator: "Monitoring team, report the current situation."
The communicator replied: "Steve is currently in his dorm room, with no unusual activity. Natasha is at the gym, also without any issues. Tony is with Valon, who is on assignment as a supervisor."
Fury frowned: "With Valon around, Tony doesn't need your surveillance. Just keep an eye on the others and make sure you don't give anything away."
The next day, at a joint meeting between the military and S.H.I.E.L.D.
General Ross, his face ashen, slammed a stack of documents onto the conference table: "Furry, what do you mean by this? Freezing our overseas funds? Is S.H.I.E.L.D. preparing to completely break with the military?!"
Fury remained unfazed: "This is a decision of the Security Council, unanimously agreed by all shareholders. Your military action is nothing but a waste of money."
"The Security Council?" Ross sneered. "Don't think I don't know how many people you've planted in the Security Council."
Fury stood up, his eyes devoid of emotion: "We are simply doing our duty. Protecting the Earth is S.H.I.E.L.D.'s top priority. If the military's actions are hindering this, we have the right to exercise our rights."
The meeting ended unhappily, and as Ross left, he ran into Steve, who was on guard duty, in the corridor.
Ross stopped and tentatively asked, "Captain, you've guessed Fury's current style of doing things, don't you have anything to say?"
Steve remained calm: "General, I'm just following orders."
Ross shook his head: "Follow orders? I remember you weren't this much of an attitude when you were dealing with Hydra."
When Steve saw Fury come out, he ignored Ross and turned to leave with Fury.
The atmosphere inside S.H.I.E.L.D. is becoming increasingly tense.
Whispers among ordinary agents are becoming more and more frequent.
Some support Fury's methods, believing they are necessary in the face of threats. Others are uneasy about his actions, feeling that the once rational and composed director is becoming increasingly distant from them.
During lunchtime, several agents gathered together.
"Have you heard? Recently, three more people from the European branch have been transferred back to headquarters for interrogation."
"Interrogation? What crime?"
"It is said that there are disagreements with the director's decision."
"What kind of crime is this?"
"This is the charge now, and a very serious one at that."
An older agent lowered his voice: "I heard that the wall in the director's office now doesn't have medals hanging on it, but rather a list of people who might threaten him."
Where did you hear that from?
The older agent didn't respond, pretending to be hungry as he ate his food heartily. The agent next to him wanted to ask more questions, but Valon's voice rang out behind him.
"Eat your lunch properly; efficiency is very important for secret agents."
The agent was startled upon hearing the voice; Valmont's name was now known to everyone in S.H.I.E.L.D.
He is now Fury's executioner.
