Chapter 19 Dream
Chapter 19 Dream
Li Jiu sighed, then stopped obsessively working on the document and started scrolling through his phone after relaxing for a bit.
Before going to bed, it's better to read some mindless novels or watch some stress-relieving videos to help you fall asleep. For example, the book "Strange Tales of Rules: 4016" that class monitor Lin Shijiu recommended to him was temporarily put aside because it was too brain-intensive.
When he felt sleepy, Li Jiu got up and went to the toilet. After checking the doors and windows one last time to make sure there was nothing wrong, he went back to bed.
"Snapped!"
Once the lights are turned off, the room is pitch black, as if the whole world has been dragged into an abyss.
Li Jiu yawned and drifted off to sleep.
Sleepiness came like waves, one after another.
He quickly fell asleep.
He didn't know how long he had slept, but in his dream, he thought he heard someone knocking on the door.
"Tap tap tap... tap tap tap..."
The knocking sound seemed to come from an extremely distant and profound place, piercing through layers of mist and void before finally reaching his ears intermittently.
The sound was initially indistinct, but gradually it became clearer and louder, eventually becoming as violent as the beating of drums.
"Thump thump thump! Thump thump thump!!"
Who's knocking on the door in the middle of the night...? Li Jiu yawned sleepily, but his eyelids felt as heavy as lead, and he couldn't open them at all.
He instinctively wanted to throw off the covers, get out of bed, and open the door.
The room was pitch black, so he instinctively reached for his phone on his pillow.
As soon as his hand reached out, he suddenly touched some kind of smooth nail plate. The nail plate was smooth and seemed to have some resilience. It was delicate and cool to the touch, and it even instinctively twitched when he touched it.
Before Li Jiu's muddled mind could fully process what was happening, he subconsciously reached out and touched the side.
It still feels the same!
Smooth, cold, with a fine, scaly texture...
Scales?!
Snake scales...?!
snake?!!!!
"Buzz—!"
Li Jiu felt as if he had been doused with ice water, his scalp tingling and his whole body jolted awake, all his drowsiness instantly shattered!
Holy crap, what the hell?!
A snake got on my bed?!
Extreme horror made him instinctively want to jump up, but his reason suddenly took over at this moment, like an iron clamp tightly strangling this impulse to escape!
Mushroom House Rules!
If you hear a knock on your door after you have fallen asleep, please do not respond. Room service staff will not check rooms at night.
If possible, you can contact room service from under the covers.
The room was pitch black; he couldn't see anything, but fortunately, his mind was completely clear, and his thoughts were racing amidst his fear.
snake?
Such a big snake?
Could it be... a dragon servant?!
The dragon servant was beside me, but it didn't attack me or make a sound.
He suppressed his wildly beating heart and rapid breathing, held his breath, and touched the spot again with his fingertips very slowly and carefully...
Next to the phone was the bed sheet.
The snake-scale-like sensation from before had mysteriously vanished.
His bed was still his bed, but that eerie touch felt like an extension of a broken dream, or perhaps more like a... tactile distortion?
He breathed a long sigh of relief, and after calming down, he thought about the Mushroom House rules again.
Room service staff certainly wouldn't check rooms at night. Could it be that that Dragon Servant has really come back again?
And then... I don't know why I didn't make a move against him?
Or... what else has come?
If possible, contact the front desk of the Mushroom House...
The conditions were indeed permissible... but when he realized what was happening, the knocking on the door seemed to disappear as if it had a spirit, and the abnormality on the bed also completely vanished.
Nevertheless, Li Jiu dragged his phone into bed and dialed the front desk of the Mushroom House.
The phone kept ringing with a long "beep-beep-beep" sound, and no one answered even after a long wait.
He called again, and after still no one answered, he opened his notepad and jotted down some keywords.
This is his habit, because he often can't remember what happened in his dream when he wakes up. So when he wakes up from a dream, he will write down some details so that he can recall them after waking up.
After doing this step, he turned off his phone screen, tucked it out of the blanket, plugged it in to charge, and went back to sleep.
After a brief moment of peace, Li Jiu's drowsiness returned. He let out a long yawn, and as soon as he closed his eyes, his consciousness was quickly dragged into sleep by the drowsiness.
This time, he slept very soundly.
I don't know how much time passed...
"Tap tap tap... tap tap tap..."
The knocking sound rang out again, faintly.
But this time, Li Jiu slept soundly, seemingly unaware of the knocking at all. The knocking, unlike before, did not become violent and terrifying, but instead gradually transformed into a different rhythm.
"Thump...thump...gurgle..."
"Gurgle..."
"bite……"
"Ding... Gu..."
"Ding... Gu..."
"bite……"
The intermittent chanting seemed to seep out from some unknown void, or perhaps it was faintly echoing from the depths of Li Jiu's dream.
"बुद्धवचनप्रज्ञरपर्वतप िशरचमरयरंविभरतिर ंकर्मदोषंनभवति, मयरदमन "
Gradually, the chanting became clearer and clearer...
"मयरक्षणेसर्वररक्षसमरयरविलयंगतरर्वत करलशक्तिःश्न्त्र्
"इदंदेशंमहरबोधिनरदुष्टभूतदमनं, सुकर ्मचित्तेन पर्वतदेव
The chanting of sutras lingered in Li Jiu's dream, and in the dream, Li Jiu felt his thoughts growing heavier and heavier, more and more confused...
……
In the dream...
Smoke curls and sandalwood fragrance wafts through the air.
An old woman dressed in an indigo printed cloth dress and wearing a square scarf on her head sat on a chair. In her left hand she held a copper bell and a wooden fish, and in her right hand she held a smooth clapper. She murmured scriptures while striking the bell and wooden fish in her left hand.
The rhythmic percussion blended strangely with her chanting, creating a unique and solemn melody:
"Ding, coo! Ding, coo! Ding, coo..."
"बुद्धवचनप्रज्ञरपर्वतप िशरचमरयरंविभरतिर ंकर्मदोषंनभवति, मयरदमन "
She looks so familiar... Who is she...?
Li Jiu stood blankly in the smoke, unaware that he was in a dream, or even what a dream was.
He was not fully conscious, but he felt that the old woman in front of him was strangely familiar.
