Chapter 24 The Results of the Arrest
Chapter 24 The Results of the Arrest
"Okay, that's all for now," Tang Mubai said. "You go wash up first. I'll go pack my things and then wash up after you're done."
"Okay." Li Jiu responded and got up to go to the restroom.
Twenty minutes later, the two left room 1-406. Li Jiu was carrying his backpack, while Tang Mubai was fully armed.
The Mushroom House's buffet restaurant was open until 10 a.m., and Tang Mubai's helicopter hadn't arrived yet. In the spirit of "why not eat if you're going to waste it," he decided to go with Li Jiu to fill their stomachs first.
He couldn't believe it. With a buffet restaurant this big, could they really have blocked them?!
"Sir, Mushroom House has always been very tolerant of its guests, but if you continue to have a snowball fight with watermelons inside, I will slam your head onto the chopping board and crack it open like a watermelon." The waiter at the restaurant entrance was the same one from yesterday, but he very subtly made way for the two of them.
Tang Mubai put his suitcase aside and laughed carefree, "Li Jiu, you saw that, didn't you? I told you they all have a big vision."
"You didn't take a single word of my threat to heart..." Li Jiu muttered to himself. But thinking about it, it made sense. Tang Mubai was about to go solo, so he was like someone with nothing to lose.
But he is not.
So let's eat properly.
As soon as the two entered the restaurant, they noticed that many of their summer camp companions were staring at them, especially Zhou Hao and Zhao Zhengmeng and a few others, whose gazes were particularly intense, making the two feel very uncomfortable when they were getting their food.
"That Zhou Hao, he's really annoyed by how he looks at me!" Tang Mubai muttered, twirling the cheese pasta on his plate. "I feel like the way he looks at us isn't like he's looking at people... like a fisherman who's baiting his fishing spot is admiring a superb fishing rod."
"Zhao Zhengmeng is about the same." Li Jiu glanced at the distance and said, "They're all probably here for Long Shi."
"Great minds think alike." Tang Mubai mumbled between chews. "Sigh, I wonder what happened to that dragon maid girl... Oh well, I'm leaving anyway, out of sight, out of mind. If you have any news later, remember to let me know on WeChat."
Not long after the two finished eating, a figure carrying a tray walked straight over and very naturally pulled out the chair next to Li Jiu and sat down.
Professor He has arrived.
He didn't rush to eat, but instead smiled and said, "It seems that after a night's rest, you two are fully prepared to make your escape? However, there's only one suitcase outside the door. Shall I guess whose it is...?"
Tang Mubai didn't give Professor He a chance to speak. After sighing, he said, "It's really a pity, Professor... I tried my best to persuade Li Jiu yesterday."
Professor He's eyes showed a hint of surprise. He looked at Li Jiu, seemingly about to offer some advice, but seeing Li Jiu's calm expression, he changed his mind and said, "Well, it's alright... Young people have their own choices, I understand..."
Tang Mubai sighed again: "...He almost ran away with me."
"...???" Professor He almost choked on his breath.
Upon hearing just the first sentence, he thought Li Jiu was about to run away, and no matter how Tang Mubai tried to persuade him, it was no use. Turns out, it was Li Jiu who wanted to run away, and he tried to persuade others to run away with him, but Li Jiu didn't listen...
Seeing this, Professor He immediately lost all interest in offering any advice and started eating his breakfast on his own.
Li Jiu vaguely sensed Professor He's sudden change in mood. After thinking for a moment, he asked, "Professor, what happened to that dragon servant from yesterday? Was he caught?"
Professor He said with some regret, "Long Shi is exceptionally gifted. He managed to evade the staff's encirclement, but in the end, he still managed to escape."
"She escaped?" Lin Yi squinted. "The Mushroom House is impregnable, how did she escape?"
"They came in the same way they left," Professor He said with a hint of helplessness.
Tang Mubai, who was engrossed in his rice, suddenly looked up, his cheeks puffed out, and said unhappily, "Huh? She can just swagger out the front door like that? Then this Mushroom House is just for show!"
"Of course she couldn't have escaped through the front door; she went through the window." Professor He shook his head and explained, "There was a guest in one of the rooms who didn't notice and left the door open for her last night. After eating the watermelon, she escaped through the window..."
"Fortunately, no one was injured during the whole process, but the passenger was quite frightened, and he was lucky."
Professor He's words immediately reminded Li Jiu of his nested dream, in which he clearly felt a cold, sinister gaze watching him from outside the window...
Could it be that he dreamt of the dragon servant escaping?
But... is this possible?
Could it be a coincidence?
Scientific research shows that dreams can reflect reality to some extent.
So perhaps he was too focused on reading the Mushroom House rules, and after being chased by the Dragon Servant, he had that dream?
"Alright..." Li Jiu's feelings were complicated. The escape of the dragon servant was not a good thing for him.
At least, compared to others, he and Tang Mubai both had a history of being targeted by dragon servants.
Tang Mubai lowered his head and ate a few bites of food, then suddenly thought of something and looked up to ask, "Professor, do you think... she's got her eye on me and Li Jiu? Will she be like a leech, impossible to shake off?"
Professor He nodded, his expression serious: "Long Shi wouldn't have approached you for no reason. I suspect that either of you, or one of you, possesses some quality that attracts her."
"What is it?"
"That's hard to say." Professor He shook his head, his gaze gradually becoming profound. "The existence of the Dragon Servants is closely related to the ancient customs and feng shui of Mount Fulong..."
"She's not related to you, so it's unlikely she'd approach you. I think it's more likely that your destiny resonates with the feng shui of Fulong Mountain? Or perhaps... your birth dates and times have some connection to that dragon servant?"
Upon hearing the words "lifeline," both Li Jiu and Tang Mubai showed solemn expressions.
Li Jiu recalled the memory of being carried to Jiding Temple, while Tang Mubai looked very seriously at his crotch, his brows furrowed, as if he were thinking about some very serious question.
But upon hearing that their birth dates were compatible, Li Jiu instinctively looked at Tang Mubai: "Old Tang, she's not after you, is she? Didn't you keep saying you wanted to find a soulmate for a Platonic relationship?"
"Eek~~~ Calling me Old Tang at a time like this? Bah!" Tang Mubai's face turned pale with fright, and he waved his hands repeatedly, saying, "I wouldn't dare be compatible with Long Shi's birth chart, Old Li, don't tease me!"
"No matter what, I just want to find someone. Please, I don't understand a single word of those 'A Chinese Ghost Story' or 'ghost marriage' stuff."
"I was just saying it casually." Li Jiu hadn't expected Tang Mubai's face to turn pale so quickly, and hurriedly changed his tune, "Could it be that she came looking for me? That doesn't make sense!"
"In short, you two should be careful." Professor He looked at Li Jiu and Tang Mubai and said solemnly, "No matter what, one thing is certain: she came to see you once, and she will come to see you a second time, a third time, until she achieves some goal."
Upon hearing this, Tang Mubai's face clearly showed fear.
But a strange light flashed in Li Jiu's eyes. He suddenly had a brilliant idea: "Hey, Professor, couldn't I use this to my advantage, using myself as bait to lure her out, and then let the people from the Mushroom House capture her?"
