Chapter 98: Silver Light
Chapter 98: Silver Light
Hong's team of five clung tightly to the uneven, dark red earth, pressing their bodies low as they surged towards the unknown distance. A fierce wind whipped up sand and dust, howling in their ears, while lightning occasionally tore through the sky above, creating a deafening roar.
Less than five kilometers behind them, hundreds of massive one-horned iron rhinoceroses were charging towards them. Their scarlet eyes were filled with murderous intent, and each heavy stomp made the ground tremble beneath their feet.
"Damn, how come these one-horned rhinoceroses are so fast?"
Also in the ranks of the fleeing green-skinned squad, one member glanced back at the approaching horde of beasts, his voice becoming shrill.
The green-skinned captain's long, pointed face was covered in sweat, and his expression was grim. He turned around and glared fiercely at the approaching Hong Xiaodui.
"Captain, we can't go on like this. We'll be caught in five minutes at most."
Another subordinate roared into the communications channel.
A ruthless glint flashed in the green-skinned captain's eyes. He stared intently at Taino, who was enveloped in Hong's domain power within Hong's squad.
"Follow my orders."
He growled in the team chat.
"This beast tide wasn't coming for us in the first place; it was those few bastards behind us who caused the trouble. If we can make them stop, we can survive."
"Third brother, seventh brother, you two, use your telekinetic weapons to target that weakling in the purple combat suit and force the squad behind to stop rescuing their comrade."
Upon receiving the order, the green-skinned captain and another psychic in his team activated their psychic powers.
Two curved blades, gleaming with a ghostly green poisonous light, broke free from their control and silently slashed towards Taino's calf, skimming the ground.
"You cowards should act like cowards. It's your honor to stay here and buy us time."
The green-skinned captain let out a cold laugh.
Just as the two poisoned curved blades approached within ten meters of Hong's team, a cold, low shout rang out.
"court death."
The sixth layer of light domain suddenly opened, instantly enveloping the two poisoned scimitars. The speed of the scimitars was abruptly halted under the suppression of the domain.
The black spear in Hong's hand moved with lightning speed.
"Clang. Clang."
Two metallic clangs rang out. The spearhead, imbued with thirty-five times the force, struck the blades of the two psychic weapons.
The two telekinetic weapons shattered into countless fragments on the spot under a shockwave.
"Second brother, third brother, teach them a lesson."
After Hong shattered the enemy's weapon with a single shot, his eyes turned icy, and he rose several meters tall. Thick, cloud-piercing vines burst forth from his domain, wrapping around the green-skinned squad in front of him.
"Hahaha, I've been annoyed by these green-skinned scum for a long time."
Thor laughed wildly. He activated his domain, and lightning blazed brightly on the battle blade in his hand, his entire genetic energy flowing into the blade.
He suddenly delivered a horizontal slash in mid-air.
A bolt of lightning roared as it slashed towards the green-skinned squad ahead.
At the same time, a murderous glint flashed in Luo Feng's eyes, and the Moyun Vine vines on his body fully unfurled, setting up a net in front of the green-skinned squad.
At the same time, his mental power erupted, and the Sky Shuttle beneath his feet instantly disintegrated and reformed with a buzzing sound, transforming into a golden swordfish. The swordfish slashed through the sky, faster than Thor's blade.
Fu Xi, who had been silently following on the flank, also made his move at the same time. His telekinetic weapon, composed of eighteen willow-leaf throwing knives, transformed into a green tornado and swept away.
"What?"
The green-skinned captain was horrified. He couldn't believe that this seemingly weak five-man squad could unleash such an attack in an instant.
The few ninth-level warriors in his team frantically raised their shields in an attempt to defend themselves.
However, they greatly underestimated the power of Thor and Luo Feng's furious attack.
The golden swordfish bypassed the shield and shredded the armor of the three warriors running on the shield, piercing through their knees.
The lightning blade and Fuxi's green tornado followed closely behind, slamming solidly into the green-skinned captain's back.
"No, save me."
The green-skinned captain coughed up a mouthful of blood. Before he could regain his footing, thick, cloud-piercing vines wrapped around his body, throwing him towards the onrushing herd of iron rhinoceroses.
The rest of their team tried to break through the large net spread by Luo Feng Mo Yun Teng, but they did not expect the vine to be so tough. When the net covered them, their speed suddenly stopped.
Rumble...
Seizing the opportunity, Hong and his group flashed past the terrified group of martial artists.
Immediately afterwards, the herd of iron rhinoceroses swept past.
This once arrogant green-skinned squad was instantly crushed into minced meat and blood.
The charge of the Iron Rhinoceros herd was halted for less than half a second.
These dark blue-green behemoths did not devour the corpses. Their scarlet eyes once again locked onto the direction in which Hong's team had fled, and they continued their pursuit, stepping over the blood and flesh scattered on the ground.
"Brother, something's not right."
Luo Feng rode the Sky Shuttle, flying at high speed close to the ground, his mental energy constantly covering what was behind him.
"Ordinary iron rhinoceroses may be a bit temperamental, but they couldn't possibly be this organized and disciplined. Look, the green-skinned squad has been trampled into mincemeat, and these beasts haven't even stopped to take a bite."
"They are being manipulated by external forces."
As Hong ran wildly under the pressure of gravity, he calmly analyzed the situation.
"When we made our move just now, I caught a glimpse of a rapidly dissipating silver light above the Iron Rhino leader's head. Something is secretly interfering in this world of thunder. We've been marked, and we can't shake them off using conventional escape methods."
"So where do we run to now?"
Thor brandished his sword, cleaving a giant rock blocking his path in two, and shouted a question.
Luo Feng quickly opened the simplified terrain map on his wrist-mounted computer, glanced at it rapidly, and then pointed to the area in front of him shrouded in dark clouds, where the lightning was most concentrated.
"There's only one way: run forward to Wind and Thunder Canyon. The terrain there is narrow, and there are intense lightning and hurricanes all year round. It's a no-go zone for large, ferocious beasts like the Iron Rhinoceros."
"But... those places are marked as dangerous even on the map. If we rashly rush in, we could easily end up dead inside."
Taino, standing to the side, added, his face pale.
There was no other choice.
Hong looked up at the distant, lightning-streaked canyon outline, his eyes sharp.
"Staying on this plain is too conspicuous. Even if we manage to shake off these iron rhinos, we'll eventually attract the attention of other teams. Entering Wind and Thunder Canyon and using its terrain to escape our pursuit is our only way to survive."
Without further hesitation, the five-person team immediately changed direction and flew at high speed towards the Wind and Thunder Canyon.
……
The hurricane, accompanied by thunder, tore at our ears. Thick, purple lightning bolts, as thick as buckets, crashed down from the dark clouds, scorching the towering canyon walls on either side, sending boulders tumbling down in a chaotic mess.
After nearly a day of fleeing, the five people plunged into the Wind and Thunder Canyon.
"Boom!"
A bolt of lightning grazed Thor's shoulder and struck the ground beneath his feet, blasting a charred crater several meters deep. The flying debris stung his skin.
"Spread out and be careful to avoid the lightning strikes."
Hong shouted.
The herd of iron rhinoceroses followed closely behind, charging fearlessly into the canyon. However, their massive size immediately became a hindrance in the narrow canyon. Dense lightning and fierce winds indiscriminately bombarded their scales, tearing their skin and flesh, disrupting their charging formation, and greatly slowing their speed.
However, just when everyone thought they were about to escape, the leader of the ninth-tier Iron Rhinoceros, with its blood-red eyes, actually withstood the bombardment of several lightning bolts and used the momentum to leap high into the air. Its single horn, gleaming with a cold light, went straight for Taino, the slowest of the group, and pierced his back.
"Be careful."
Hong let out an angry shout and advanced instead of retreating.
His genetic energy surged wildly, his arm muscles bulged, and he swung the black spear in his hand, slamming it down hard on the Iron Rhino leader who had already leaped into the air.
"Bang!"
A dull, loud bang.
The spear slammed solidly into the iron rhinoceros's thick forehead.
The enormous iron rhinoceros was slammed downwards by the force, crashing into the canyon wall with a loud bang. It was then swept up by the gale and carried forward by the wind, its fate unknown.
At that moment, a strange silver light quietly detached from his mind.
The light did not dissipate, but drifted leisurely into the depths of the Wind and Thunder Canyon, eventually disappearing silently into the howling wind and void.
