Chapter 2734 - 2735: Burning the Soul
Chapter 2734 - 2735: Burning the Soul
Even without fish tails, merfolk remain the darlings of the sea, swimming quickly and following Ayi and her husband to a safe location.
On the other side, Gao Zhou jumped up while holding Chushuang, Feng Ran followed closely, exerting all his strength to maintain Chushuang’s barrier.
The great elder laughed loudly, "Chushuang is going to die, she is going to die, don’t expect to live forever any of you!"
Bai Ruozhu kicked him in the chest, making the great elder spit blood and sink into the sea. The second and third elders screamed and quickly swam towards where he sank.
"Let’s go help." Jiang Yichun transformed into a fish tail in the water, leading Bai Ruozhu towards Feng Cheng. Someone from afar saw his fish tail and exclaimed, realizing that not only Duannian had a fish tail; even Bai’s husband did.
Feng Cheng was already too exhausted to use the Clean Dust Technique, his body stained with blood, looking terribly shabby.
Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun hurriedly supported him, but he spat more blood.
"Feng Cheng, how did you end up like this? I told you, you can’t..." Bai Ruozhu’s words were cut short by Feng Cheng.
"The time for my curse is about to end, I didn’t have much longer anyway. To help you before I die, I have no regrets." He smiled at her, the smile reaching his eyes, making them shine like the brightest star.
Bai Ruozhu cried, "You’re lying, you became this way to help me; otherwise, you would have lived well in the Peach Forest."
"I’m really not lying. I’ve lived for over a hundred years, tired of living while tormented by the curse for so long. It always had to break out." He looked at Jiang Yichun, "Had I been a hundred years younger, I would have fought you till blood flowed. So, please take care of her from now on."
Jiang Yichun didn’t dislike Feng Cheng; he even admired him.
"Of course, I will take good care of her, but for her sake, don’t die. If you do, she’ll feel guilty all her life," he said.
"I don’t want to either, but the time is truly running out." Feng Cheng said very candidly, gazing at the sky with a somewhat unfocused gaze.
Over there, the white dragon and Xuan Gui fought fiercely, creating massive waves on the sea as the sky darkened, threatening a storm.
"You’ve had the benefits for hundreds of years; it’s time to return them to me, don’t be ungrateful!" the white dragon roared angrily.
The giant turtle growled, incapable of human speech but clearly unwilling to return the Dragon Ball.
"Then just die!" the white dragon roared, whipping its tail at Xuan Gui, whose back—covered in earth, trees, and houses—burst apart and fell into the sea.
Suddenly, a white light emerged from Xuan Gui’s belly; a massive energy swept over the sea, as the Dragon Ball and white dragon resonated, ready to fly out of Xuan Gui’s body.
Xuan Gui howled in agony, its huge body flipping in the sea, belly facing the sky, while the Dragon Ball shone increasingly bright, about to break out!
Rumble, thunder crackled in the sky, bright and terrifying lightning descended.
"Not good, Xuan Gui is about to transform into a dragon!" Feng Cheng’s eyes widened in fear; was all his previous effort in vain?
Faraway, the merfolk cried out in terror—it’s over for them, they’re doomed; who would save them!
"I’ll go help." Jiang Yichun drew his sword to assist but was stopped by Feng Cheng, "We can’t hurt it; its skin is too thick."
"Isn’t it at its weakest before transforming into a dragon?" Bai Ruozhu hastily asked.
"Indeed, but with Heavenly Thunder falling, could we even get close?" Feng Cheng shook his head in despair.
The white dragon spat dragon’s breath again, injuring Xuan Gui further, but Xuan Gui’s defenses were too strong. As long as the white dragon couldn’t kill it, it would likely succeed in transforming.
Feng Cheng looked at the white dragon, his gaze suddenly firm, "Go assist the white dragon; it’s the only way."
Without question, Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun quickly swam toward the white dragon.
Feng Cheng watched her back and smiled quietly; after years of solitude, his heart had died, yet she illuminated his final days, bringing color back into his world.
She was the girl he loved—even if he forever left this world, he wanted her to live happily.
Maybe he would become the brightest star in the sky, guarding her—watching her, always...
His figure slowly faded, enveloped by flames that seemed to burn, prompting the arriving astrologer to gasp, "You’re burning your soul?"
Feng Cheng smiled and started reciting a spell.
"Burn my soul, offer to the white dragon, burn my flesh and blood, promise you rebirth!"
"No!" Bai Ruozhu realized why Feng Cheng sent them away; he feared she would stop him.
She broke free from Jiang Yichun, desperately swimming back—but everything was too late. Feng Cheng smiled, transforming into a halo of light, ascending to the sky, eventually merging into the white dragon’s brow.
The white dragon’s silhouette immediately solidified, roaring and lunging at Xuan Gui, opening its massive mouth to bite fiercely onto Xuan Gui’s back.
Amidst a crunching sound, Xuan Gui’s hardest shell cracked.
Xuan Gui struggled in pain but couldn’t break free; the white dragon exhaled its dragon’s breath, and the scorching breath melted its flesh, allowing the Dragon Ball to burst out, flying into the white dragon’s mouth.
"After hundreds of years, my Dragon Ball has returned!" the white dragon sang joyfully towards the sky, and the storm clouds and lightning spread across the sky gradually dispersed and vanished.
Xuan Gui’s shattered body lay on the sea, lifelessly sinking into the depths.
It suffered severe injuries, accustomed to relying on the Dragon Ball, and losing it meant losing vitality.
"Feng Cheng!" Bai Ruozhu screamed in pain and fainted. Jiang Yichun swam over, holding her tenderly in his arms.
She is passionate in her feelings, deeply caring for both family and friends—Feng Cheng’s death might make her unable to recover.
The white dragon dived into the sea, reappearing quickly; now its body was solid, no longer a mere dragon soul. With the Dragon Ball’s return, it broke the seal, gaining its freedom.
Hovering above the sea, it gazed at Jiang Yichun and others, saying, "Thank you; I’m finally free! Now my soul feels peaceful, no longer in torment."
Jiang Yichun felt deeply dispirited, holding Bai Ruozhu and saying, "Remember your promise to us, lift the curse on the merfolk."
The white dragon nodded its massive head, "We of the Dragon Clan always keep our word."
It soared into the sky, circling and emitting lengthy, incomprehensible dragon language, dispersing faint glows upon the distant merfolk.
Soon, the merfolk exclaimed in surprise, feeling the restraints inexplicably lifted; they wouldn’t die before reaching thirty.
They cheered, leaping out of the water, revealing tails similar to Duannian’s.
The merfolk swam towards the seabed, where the palace called to them—their true origin place.
