“Reports and testimony of eyewitnesses from his time there confirm that one night, Uncle Benjamin snuck out alone without his protection detail or the staff sent to assist him in order to go drink at a bar.
While at that bar, he met a young woman by the name of Grace Wilson and the two started talking. One thing led to another and I don’t think I need to explain what happened next.”
Benjamin’s neck began to sweat as James continued to speak.
“Uncle Benjamin returned home the next day because his job was done; unfortunately, it was done in more ways than one.”
“Ha, good one,” Philip said with a chuckle.
“Quiet,” Isabella hissed, causing Philip to tuck his neck in and stay quiet.
“Yes, well, Grace Wilson became pregnant. Unfortunately, what I don’t think Uncle Benjamin knew is that Grace Wilson was betrothed to Lucas Williams and she now goes by the name Grace Williams.”
“WHAT?” Benjamin yelled in shock.
“QUIET YOU UNFAITHFUL PIECE OF TRASH!” Karen yelled before slapping him again.
“Lucky for Grace, she was scheduled to study abroad at Oxford for three years before she married Lucas Williams. It was during this time that she discovered she was pregnant.
Now, normally, one would simply have an abortion to hide the fact, unfortunately, Grace Williams has a medical condition that makes that impossible without risking her own life.”
At this point, James paused for a moment before saying, “I’m afraid the information gets a little… sparse from here, grandmother.”
“Then tell us what you do know,” Isabella replied.
James nodded before continuing, “Left with no choice, Grace Williams, the Grace Wilson, had the baby. I’m not sure exactly what happened, but I’m guessing she abandoned it at an orphanage.”
“Oh, why do you think that?” Isabella asked.
“Adam Spencer's surname is Spencer and the orphanage where he grew up is called Spencer Hill Orphanage,” James replied.
“Ah, I see, it’s common for abandoned children to take the name of the orphanage as their surname,” Isabella replied before turning to Benjamin and asking, “Anything to say, Benjamin?”
The sweat that had been pouring down Benjamin’s neck had now come to include his face, which was covered in it.
“Damn bastard,” Karen cursed before continuing in an angry rage, “Not only have you slept with some Willians skank behind my back, you have as good as ruined my career. Do you have any idea what this means for my political career? I’ve only just become Prime Minister for fucks sake. If it comes out that my husband had an extramarital affair and even conceived a child that was abandoned, I will be finished, even my own party will vote to remove me, to say nothing of the opposition.”
“I… I didn’t know,” Benjamin replied in panic.
“Didn’t know? Didn’t know what exactly? That you had an unborn child, or that you slept with another woman behind my back?” Karen spat venomously before asking in a painful scream, “DID YOU DO THIS BECAUSE I AM INCAPABLE OF BEARING CHILDREN?”
The room fell into an awkward silence after Karen's scream and all that was heard where he heartwrenching sobs.
“Karen…” Benjamin began as he went to grab her shoulder.
“DON’T TOUCH ME!” Karen screamed before saying, “We’re done, our marriage is done. You will be lucky if mother doesn’t have people kill you and dispose of your body.”
Benjamin blanched at the mention of his death, causing him to turn and nervously look at Isabella, who was staring back at him with a smile that didn't reach her eyes.
As if reading his mind, Isabella snapped her fingers, at which point two burly men equipped with holstered side-arms entered.
“Take my former son-in-law away and lock him up somewhere cold and damp while I decide what to do with him,” Isabella ordered.
“Ma’am,” The two burly men replied before walking over to Benjamin, pulling him to his feet, after which they began to drag him away.
“No, no, I had no idea,” Benjamin protested as he tried to resist, “I had no idea that Grace had a child; she never told me. It was a mistake, it was all a mistake.”
Winston closed the doors after the burly men had dragged Benjamin away before asking, “What do you plan to do with him, Lady Flemming?”
Instead of replying, Isabella looked at her only daughter and asked, “Karen, what do you think?”
It took several moments for Karen to calm herself down enough to think clearly before she said, “Offer him to Adam Spencer.”
Isabella smiled before saying in an approving tone, “Even in this condition, you managed to get a hold of your emotions and make the most sensible choice, well done.”
“Adam Spencer?” Anthony repeated before asking, “Are you certain we should reveal this to him, mother? It may damage our already fragile relationship with him.”
“The man managed to hack our secure and even secret bank accounts. Do you really think we can hide this from him?” Karen snapped as she dabbed at her eyes to clear her tears.
“Karen is once again correct,” Isabella replied before continuing, “We would be better off revealing this to Adam Spencer ourselves than trying to cover it up. We all know what he did to the Morose family, who tried to cover up his girlfriend's murder.”
“And to the other families who aided in covering it up,” Steven added.
“How do you plan to inform him?” Karen asked.
“Through Emma Hopkins,” Isabella answered, causing Karen to nod in understanding.
“What about the Williams family?” James suddenly asked.
“What about them?” Isabella asked in return.
“From what I can gather, they know nothing about Grace Williams being Adam Spencer’s mother. It seems the Kieta family are yet to gleefully inform them,” James answered.
“Interesting, I wonder why Roudha Keita was so eager to inform me, but they have yet to inform the Williams family,” Isabella mused.
“Sorry, Lady Flemming, but could you repeat that?” Emma asked in shock from across the mess hall, causing Stacey, Rowena, Aphrodite and Eri to look over with interest.
Adam had left for his date along with Tephe and Revi a short while ago and Lorelie was still recuperating in the medical bay, though Adam had made sure to let her know what was happening before he left.
Lorelie, who was still tired from the recovery procedure and the conversation she had forced herself to have with her three lovers, simply smiled before she told him to go enjoy himself while she focused on recovering.
Seeing that the other women were paying attention, Emma wandered back over to them as Isabella said, “I have just learned that Adam Spencer is my grandson-in-law.”
“Grandson-in-law?” Rowena asked with a puzzled look.
“It’s the term used for a grandson that is part of your family but not connected by blood,” Emma began to explain. “A better example is a son-in-law, who is a son by marriage to your biological daughter.”
“So you mean that if Adam and Stacey got married, Adam would become my grandson-in-law?” Rowena asked with interest.
“Exactly,” Emma replied.
“Then what about if you marry him, won’t he then become Stacey’s grand…” Aphrodite began with a smirk before Stacey cut her off by saying.
“Stop, stop, stop.”
“Errr, excuse me?” Isabella asked in a strange tone since she was not used to being ignored like this.
“Oh, sorry about that, Lady Flemming,” Emma said apologetically before adding, “Please continue.”
“If possible, I would like to discuss this matter with Adam in person,” Isabella replied.
“Unfortunately, he’s not around right now since he’s out on a date with Tephe and Phoenix Empress Revi,” Emma replied while winking at the other women as she waited for the expected response.
“There was silence for a few moments before Isabella asked, “There must have been interference because of the long-distance call, but it almost sounded like you said he was on a date with two women and one of them was a Phoenix Empress?”
“No, that’s what I said,” Emma replied with a smirk as the other women smiled in glee while Emma added, “They're currently out on a double date.”
“Don’t double dates normally need two couples?” Isabella asked.
“That’s what I said,” Emma replied.
“Yeah, but both women want to be with Adam, so...” Rowena replied while shrugging.
“So?” Isabella asked.
“I mean, he already has three girlfriends, so what’s the big deal if he adds a dragon and a phoenix?” Rowena replied nonchalantly while trying not to laugh.
“A dragon and a phoenix?” Isabella asked as she tried to wrap her head around all this new information
“Didn’t I say?” Emma asked in surprise before apologising, “Sorry, Tephe is the dragon that’s been travelling with Adam.”
“So dragons and phoenixes actually exist?” Isabella asked in surprise.
“Yup,” Stacey replied.
“And there out on a date with Adam?” Isabella asked.
“Sure are,” Eri replied.
There was silence for a moment before Isabella asked, “As Adam’s a human and they are a dragon and a phoenix, are they even capable of having children?”
