Chapter 379 - 138: Marry My Ass, I Don’t Agree (Part 2)
’These two are really something else. They’re getting more and more out of line. What a public scandal!’
’In broad daylight, with the door wide open, they’re about to...’
’Sigh! Their relationship is so intense, I don’t even need to push them to have kids. Maybe by the time I come back to Shijiu City next year, my little nephew or niece will have already been born.’
Qin Xiang stared at them, and they stared back at him. All three of them felt the awkwardness, yet no one reacted. They remained in a deadlock until...
"Jie Jingchen." A rough voice, bursting with uncontrollable anger, rang out.
The voice came from outside the courtyard wall; the person had not yet entered the yard.
The voice was unfamiliar to Qin Mei, but Jie Jingchen knew it well. It was his second uncle, Xie Jianjun.
"That was fast." Jie Jingchen sneered.
"Who?" Qin Mei’s delicate brows furrowed slightly.
"My second uncle." Jie Jingchen released Qin Mei and took a step back. His amber pupils showed no emotion, but his devilishly handsome face was coated with a layer of frost.
"He really couldn’t wait," Qin Mei said sarcastically.
"Perfect timing." Qin Xiang’s expression darkened, his voice laced with a chill. If Jie Jingchen hadn’t stopped him, he would have stormed the hospital directly.
"Leave this to me." Jie Jingchen strode toward Qin Xiang, dragged him into the house, and shut the door, locking them inside. He would face his second uncle alone.
Qin Xiang staggered. By the time he steadied himself, Jie Jingchen had already shut them in the room. Annoyed, Qin Xiang turned to open the door.
"Big Brother," Qin Mei called out to him. "Let him handle it."
Qin Xiang froze for a moment, gave up on opening the door, and turned to look at Qin Mei, his head hanging. "Little Sister, being a coward hiding in my shell is just too pathetic."
"Let him handle it. It’s easier for us that way." Qin Mei knew what Jie Jingchen was thinking. ’If he handles this well, things won’t get too ugly, and our families won’t feel awkward when they meet in the future. The situation hasn’t blown up yet, and it hasn’t reached the Qin family. But if Qin Xiang shows up, things will escalate, and word will get back to the Qin family all the way in Yangcheng City.’
To put it bluntly, Jie Jingchen just wanted to handle it privately.
"Little Sister, do you think Jing Si can handle this?" Qin Xiang asked.
Qin Mei shook her head. "He can’t handle it."
"So certain?" Qin Xiang was a little surprised, then teased, "Jing Si is your husband. You have so little faith in him."
"Once Jie Anqi has her teeth in you, she won’t let go easily." Qin Mei had witnessed Jie Anqi’s cruelty. How could someone who was ruthless even to herself possibly compromise so easily?
Jie Anqi was too crazy. Just as Jie Jingchen had said, Jie Anqi was willing to go all out. She’d even gamble with her own life, so why would she care about something as intangible as her reputation?
A person like Jie Anqi is unbelievably stubborn. If she says the baby in her belly is Qin Xiang’s, she’ll never back down. She won’t give in even if Qin Xiang has an alibi. She won’t give in even if everyone despises her. Heck, even when the baby is born and Qin Xiang gets a paternity test, she’ll ignore the results and stubbornly accuse them of tampering with it.
Qin Xiang’s pupils constricted violently, a hint of coldness in them. He cursed, "Shameless! Shameless! Utterly shameless!"
Qin Mei didn’t join him in cursing. Cursing was useless; it could only relieve one’s own pent-up frustration.
"Who did I ever provoke? How did I get stuck with this mess?" Qin Xiang wanted to punch someone.
Qin Mei stepped forward and patted Qin Xiang’s shoulder. "It’s fine. If he can’t do it, we’ll step in. Might as well go all out since things are already a mess. Who’s afraid of whom?"
"Right. Worst comes to worst, we go all out." Qin Xiang stopped complaining and handed the duck head and neck to Qin Mei.
Qin Mei took them and took a bite. "We’ll chew on this roast duck while we watch them perform. Just treat it like a show."
Duck heads, duck necks, duck feet—they were all her favorite things to gnaw on.
Qin Xiang looked at the duck foot in his hand. He didn’t like gnawing on duck feet; there was no meat, and it was no fun. He liked duck legs. Then he remembered that Jing Qi also liked duck legs. ’Oh well, I’ll let Jing Qi have them.’
’Jing Qi is a child. I can’t fight with a child over food.’
’Not that I could even if I wanted to. Except for the head, neck, and feet, the rest of the roast duck is in Jing Qi’s room. If I’d known, I would have called Jing Qi over to eat with us. The three of us, gnawing on roast duck while watching the show from in here—how great would that have been!’
Qin Mei moved a chair to the window, sat down, and gnawed on the duck head as she watched the courtyard. Qin Xiang stood by the window holding a duck foot, his slender, almond-shaped eyes filled with a cold light.
Xie Jianjun strode into the courtyard, about to call for Jie Jingchen. But when he saw Jie Jingchen sitting in the rattan chair under the tree, he stopped in his tracks and slowly closed his open mouth.
"Second Son, slow down, wait for me," Granny’s voice sounded from outside the main gate.
Jie Anlin helped Granny over the threshold, reminding her considerately, "Granny, take your time. Watch your step."
